The Dark Hedges are an avenue of European Beech trees planted over 250 years ago leading to a great house. The avenue is now a road and the estate and house has been turned into a golf course and clubhouse which means, thankfully, that it has been preserved. An amazing view and now famous as it has been used in the tv series Game of Thrones, and called The Kings Road. I tried to photo it in the afternoon but there were coach loads of tourists admiring it. I took this at 6 am the following morning when it was quiet. Its supposed to be haunted by The Grey Lady.Understandable, as the , tentacled tree trunks do look spectre like in the misty morning light.

The ashy scent of the campfire attached itself to the men sitting around it. Their sharp eyes, set on their prey, glimmering with the prospect of coin. A soft entrepreneurial smirk dances on the blond scoundrel while a stern murderous scowl judges from behind from his partner in crime.
To the left, the foreign sellsword Salolhas Saaqu and to his right his brother-in-arms Ignatious of King's Landing
Where will the winds take these two? Only time will tell...

This beautiful avenue of beech trees was planted by the Stuart family in the eighteenth century.
It was intended as a compelling landscape feature to impress visitors as they approached the entrance to their Georgian mansion, Gracehill House. Two centuries later, the trees remain a magnificent sight and have become one of the most photographed natural phenomena in Northern Ireland. In fact, the iconic trees have been used as a filming location in the epic TV series Game of Thrones representing the Kingsroad.
Featured Scene: Season 2, Episode 1: The North Remembers - On the King's Road, Arya Stark has escaped from King’s Landing, disguised as a boy. She is with Yoren, Gendry, Hot Pie and others who are to join the Night’s Watch, in a cart, travelling north on the Kingsroad.
So the edit of the previous image is not exactly correct. I ended up being offered the role. While I was not first choice I still have accepted and this means I get to roleplay with my friend again. Hope to see you there soon.

The Alcázar of Seville, officially called Royal Alcázar of Seville (Spanish: Real Alcázar de Sevilla or Reales Alcázares de Sevilla), is a historic royal palace in Seville, Spain. It was formerly the site of the Islamic-era citadel of the city, begun in the 10th century and then developed into a larger palace complex by the Abbadid dynasty (11th century) and the Almohads (12th to early 13th centuries). After the Castilian conquest of the city in 1248, the site was progressively rebuilt and replaced by new palaces and gardens. Among the most important of these is a richly-decorated Mudéjar-style palace built by Pedro I during the 1360s.
The palace is a preeminent example of Mudéjar style in the Iberian Peninsula and also includes sections with Gothic and Renaissance elements. The upper stories of the Alcázar are still occupied by the royal family when they visit Seville and are administered by the Patrimonio Nacional. It was registered in 1987 by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, along with the adjoining Seville Cathedral and the General Archive of the Indies.
Part 1:
After over two years of work I can finally present my first part of the Red Keep. This will be the first part of a large moc that will become the Red Keep from A Song of Ice and Fire. My goal is to build the entire castle as close to minifig-scale as possible.
This part contains a small portion of the castle, featuring a tower and a wall section. Also included is a dock section with two small cottages. By the docks there is a scene of a family purchasing some dornish wine and loading it onto their cart. On top of the tower we find Tywin Lannister looking out overlooking the Blackwater.
This build took over two years to build. In that time it has gone through a lot of changes. Originally it was supposed to be a small portion of Lannisport, containing white walls instead of medium nougat. Eventually i wanted to build the Red Keep and decided to turn my Lannisport build into the Red Keep. Additionally a lot of time has been spent figuring out the size and height of the walls. The size of the walls and tower in this build would determine the size of the rest of the castle so it was important to get it just right so i don't have to change it later.
Anyways, hope you like it!

Janna, the Rose of Highgarden, and her cousin, Meggan Flowers, went for a stroll one evening using a map she had drawn with her brother's tutelage. However, wound up getting lost, scared, and alone the two separated. Then, Janna found a garden of butterflies, knowing she was that much closer to home and the gardens surrounding Highgarden. One butterfly would land, its beautiful wings flapping in the night breeze. As it flew away, she followed this butterfly to her cousin, and soon after, the girls were rescued by one of her father's knights, who was sent to find them. Ever since, the young Rose has been enthralled by butterflies, obsessed with them, and genuinely believing they had magical powers.

Caleb sold fish as usual on the streets of King's Landing. By sundown, the bucket was almost empty, and his small purse was filled with coppers. It had been a busy day, for the fisherman had gotten up before dawn, so the warm sunlight and the pleasant weariness of the day had quickly put him to sleep.
The Dark Hedges is an avenue of beech trees along Bregagh Road between Armoy and Stranocum in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. The trees form an atmospheric tunnel that has been used as a location in HBO's popular television series Game of Thrones, which has resulted in the avenue becoming a popular tourist attraction.
The Dark Hedges was used as a filming location for the "King's Road" in the television series Game of Thrones. The trees were also used in the 2017 Transformers film The Last Knight.

One of the most iconic photo-spots in Germany. It is far out in the East, out of (almost) everyone's way. But we made the effort to get there. I planned to shoot through sunset into the blue hour. But the weather gods weren't quite with us that evening... except for a few brief moments before sunset when the bridge was lit up dramatically. Those few moments were totally worth it!

Oh! And a big sorry to everyone! I know, I have kept you waiting a long time for a new image. That's because I was extremely busy with many things lately. But big promise for 2018: I will edit and upload more often! Still have many sleeping beauties on my hard disk and quite a few new photo-journeys planned. So watch this space! I am still alive :-)
I remember seeing a scene with this mountain in Game of Thrones. A white walker was walking in front of the white mountain in a very snowy atmosphere. The conditions in this photo remind me of this.
Am I the only one who has never seen a single episode of #GameOfThrones ? 😅
Well, if you visit this town in southern Croatia you have no chance to escape the hype...
But right now, the prince looks rather Unbothered, too! Vipers do love to sunbathe, after all.

As a few have already guessed right, the little crank on the base has a purpose. The turning reveals an unique clockwork function in each castles.
I tried to inspire the motions by the animations in the Game of Thrones show intro, but kept it very simple to blend in with the castle design. Functionality is not one of my strengths so it was quite a challenge, but an interesting one.

I hope you like my series as much as I liked building it.
Your feedback was already overwhelming, so I'm motivated to work on a sequel for the next year. Stay tuned!
The first rays of sunrise hit the twisted overgrown row of beech trees lining the Bregagh road in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. This is a spectacular tree lined road, known as the "Dark Hedges", but sadly it won't last forever as the trees are said to have lasted longer than their usual lifespan and are now in decay and under threat from traffic and weather events. In 2016, a storm destroyed or damaged 3 of them. There are about 90 remaining of the 150 originally planted in 1775 by the owner of the estate to which the road leads. The location was made famous in an episode of the TV series Game of Thrones, and now dozens of tour buses visit every day. Reading about these trees was a Stark (GoT pun there for any fans) reminder to me that a surprising number of the great landscape features I photograph are vulnerable and may not exist in their current form for so much longer. Sometimes it's because of the pressure mankind puts on our fragile ecosystems, but quite often it's just the ever-changing nature of this incredible planet, we bear witness to those changes even in our short lifetimes.
I was happy to have another visit to Ireland during a recent trip to Europe and I arranged an extra evening and morning to drive from Dublin up to the Antrim coast. It was my first time braving the mysteries of right hand drive cars, and I am happy to report that I managed it without "pranging" my rental car. I found the Dark Hedges first in the late afternoon, but the road was mobbed with people, there were even a number of vehicles parked visibly within the frame which is a shame, and I could see that it would set up better for an early morning picture where hopefully there wouldn't be so many tourists around. I drove from there to the Giants Causeway (an amazing feature I've posted before) but sunset was a bust. Coming back to the Dark Hedges in the early morning was the right thing to do, there was only one small group of photographers there and so I was able to squeeze my tripod in among them and wait for the sun to come up. The road is a treat to photograph at any time, in any season. It would of course be beautifully enhanced by a little Irish mist but no matter, I was really surprised and pleased to see the orange/red glow effect of the morning sun as the rim of the sun peeked over the nearest ridge. It lasts only a precious minute or two before the glow fades to a nice warm yellow light among the beeches. Happy Hedging!
