Monday morning we cycled 19km (12miles) along the loop formed by the Galloping Goose Trail and the E&N Rail Trail
Back in the 60s when we lived at 730 Daisy Ave. our water bill used to come in addressed to 729 Hyacinth Ave. This was due to the fact Hyacinth Ave. was never completed but that's where the water main was laid for the one-of-two lots we owned. The front lot was on Daisy Ave. but the back lot — where our house was located — was where the never-built Hyacinth-road property was registered at the land office. Strange but true. Only in Saanich you say? Perhaps.
Either way, in the intervening six decades it left open a great opportunity for Saanich to build another park (Swan Creek)) and accompanying trail systems. So they did. Nothing wrong with that. All's well that ends well.
Once across Interurban, it was a short distance to Red Barn Market where the Wallace Drive 10km on-road section starts.
Wallace Dr. joins up with Amity Road where there's a highway overpass for cyclists and pedestrians.
From there it was approximately a 24km ride along the Lochside Trail and neighbourhood roads to our place.

Wednesday we walked 3km at Elk/Beaver Lake Park. After parking the limo in the main parking area to the south of Beaver Lake we walked the Pipeline Trail to Pipeline Rd. then northward again on the westside Main Trail to the Waterside Trail of Beaver Lake. We spoke with a walker who just came from the northwest end of Elk Lake (Brookleigh Road). He reported no trail flooding in the area.
This is why we visited the park this day: To checkout reports in the Time-Colonist (TC) stating a beaver dam & lodge was obstructing waterflow from the lake causing flooding of an unidentified section of trail. We saw no evidence of any beaver activity during this trip nor have we ever seen any in all the years we have frequented this park.
Why the TC chose to publish a photo of someone's dog getting its feet wet and not a photo of the alleged beaver lodge is anyone's guess. Perhaps because there is no such beaver lodge? Remember: beavers are not fish and do not live under water; beavers are mammals and live in lodges which are built on waterways where they breath air and raise their young.
Here's a video showing how the weir is supposed to work. Note water is let out of the lake by raising the weir's gate thus permitting water to pass underneath its adjustable gate.

Güncelleme: Samsung Galaxy Note 9’a zam geldi. Yeni fiyat aynen uygulandı. Dedikoduların doğru olduğu ortaya çıktı. Artık resmi sitede cihaz 8 bin tl olarak satılıyor. Oldukça büyük bir zam geldi. Sanırım ülkemiz kur farkından oldukça fazla çekecek.

Saturday morning I cycled 24km roundtrip from home to Panama Flats and back.
Saturdays are always busy on the trails as the workers get out with the family and enjoy the nice weather.
Panama Flats has a labyrinth of trails covering its large area but few take time to explore them.
Other than locals, most are just passing through on there way to somewhere else. Pity.
The main trail is the Inland Interurban Connector section between Colquitz River Park and Copley West Park.
Several linear parks make up the route between Tillicum Mall and the Red Barn Market on West Saanich Road.
I put my DJImini 2 drone up over Panama Flats while there.

Monday morning I went to Canadian Tire and bought a crowbar to remove English Ivy vines from a Garry Oak tree in our neighbourhood. The 50mm x 30mm vines were cut some time ago. Even after being cut, it takes considerable force to break their grip from the tree.
Thursday morning I walked a 2.5km loop up Merriman Trail and Down Whittaker Trail in Mt. Douglas Park.
