“Ce serait drôle, tout de même, que la nature s'abstînt d'être gaie pour ne pas contraster avec notre tristesse !”

This is an image I have wanted in my collection for a very long time and in the hot dry weather I feed them at night and give them water . This particular one started to visit every evening at Dusk giving me my long awaited chance. I had as many as 3 visit in an evening but mostly well into the dark hours . Hedgehogs are declining rapidly but thankfully in the UK they are still very widely distributed with almost comprehensive coverage across England. They have a distinctive waddling gait a long snout and are covered in characteristic brown spines.

Australian authorities have come up with a drastic plan to get rid of stray cats. This includes the deployment of killer robots whose objective is to track down and eliminate felines, considered invasive and harmful to endemic fauna.
Yes, you read correctly…
Amounting to 7.6 million Australian dollars, or 4.6 million euros, the plan aims to eradicate feral cats (domestic cats returned to the wild) within 5 years in the State of 'Western Australia.
After years of testing, federal authorities finally approved the deployment of Felixer. Marketed by local company Thylation, this killer robot identifies cats based on their silhouette and gait. He then sends a toxic gel, sodium fluoroacetate or poison 1080, on the animal. The poison is then ingested by it during its toilet, resulting in its death.
Financially, the damage caused by feral cats on the country's wildlife amounts to nearly 300 million Australian dollars, or 181 million euros.

On a walk around the Yorkshire Wolds, we came upon these posts located between Millington and Huggate. These four Way Posts are the first of eleven carved English Oak posts made and installed in three groups, following a route through the Pastures. A single letter is carved into each of the eleven posts which, when read in sequence, spells GAIT IN WOLDS.
The spelling "G A I T" refers to the gaits into which the common grazing land was divided before the Pastures became enclosed by fencing. The Gaits were looked after by the Pasture Master and were rented to local farmers, each gait being enough grazing for six sheep of four ewes with lambs.
These WAY POST were installed as part of an Arts Council England, and Yorkshire and East Riding of Yorkshire Council project in 2005. The carvings seek to match the contour of the surroundings land.
Also known as the Tibetan ground-tit or Hume's ground-tit, is a unique bird found on the Tibetan Plateau. It lives at high elevations, typically above 3,000 meters (9,800 feet), in treeless environments like alpine steppe and open pastures.
Despite being classified within the tit family, the ground tit's appearance and behavior are quite different from other members of the Paridae family. It was historically mistaken for a ground jay (family Corvidae) due to its terrestrial habits and long, slightly downcurved bill, similar to a chough. However, genetic studies confirmed its placement in the tit family.
Unlike most tits, it spends most of its time on the ground, exhibiting a distinctive bouncy gait and weak flight, preferring to run or jump from danger. Its diet consists primarily of insects and other invertebrates, which it probes for in soil, rock crevices, and even yak dung. The ground tit also builds its own burrows for nesting and roosting, reaching depths of up to 1.8 meters (5.9 feet).
The ground tit is a cooperative breeder, with monogamous pairs sometimes assisted by male helpers, often young from previous broods. We sighted them in plenty around the desert of Tsokar and village of Hanle.

Two Icelandic subjects in this photo: horses and abandoned farms.
The Icelandic horse is most famous for its fifth gait or tölt (gait). This fifth gait is unique to the Icelandic horse and provides a more stable and even pace, with three of the animal's legs touching the ground at the same time. You can then drink a cup of coffee without spilling it. Horses are not allowed to be imported into Iceland to prevent diseases. And once an Icelandic horse has been outside Iceland, it is not allowed to return.
And then the abandoned farms. More and more farms are empty and falling into ruins. I always find it a sad sight. There are several reasons, but the most important is that you have to work hard for a low income and especially that there are no successors. As in many countries, young people here also move to the city because that is where the employment opportunities are. Too bad for the small villages too.

I saw him in the distance coming towards me with a proud gait,
got down on my knees to be more at his height and well
be able to hold the device with the elbow on the knee, so a tripod
natural, (I never take photos with a tripod).
seeing me like this, he was coming faster and faster.. I didn't really see what he had in mind,
not very reassured, I made the best adjustments with the sun in front but fortunately much higher, I clicked several times, the last one was the best in quality, but alas the legs were truncated.. I I saw but could no longer retreat at the risk of falling, kneeling.
Phew I was relieved when I saw that he wanted, very happy to show me the pebble he had in his mouth,
he came to smell my face, never letting go of his trophy,
having amply congratulated him, he turned around hearing his mistress arrive saying to him laughingly you are scaring Mr. stop, suddenly he dropped his stone and went around begging me for hugs, something that I did to him right away, happy he picked up his big pebble again and continued on his way, without even caring
that his mistress does not follow, making the cosette with me..
Very nice was this meeting..
(I even forgot to ask the name and race of this handsome young man)
please look large.. the astonishment will also be for....you!
Shame about the barbed wire but hey ho

Key information
The dunnock is a small brown and grey bird. Quiet and unobtrusive, it is often seen on its own, creeping along the edge of a flower bed or near to a bush, moving with a rather nervous, shuffling gait, often flicking its wings as it goes. When two rival males come together they become animated with lots of wing-flicking and loud calling.
What they eat:
Insects, spiders, worms and seeds.
Measurements:
Length:
14 cm
Wingspan:
19-21cm
Weight:
19-24g
Population:
UK breeding:
2,300,000 territories
Where and when to see them
Dunnocks inhabit any well vegetated areas with scrub, brambles and hedges. Look in deciduous woodland, farmland edges, parks and gardens. They keep largely on the ground and often close to cover.
A shot of the unusual landscape of Gait Barrow, near Silverdale, Lancashire.
The Limestone here is much more impervious than the usual Carboniferous Limestone you see on much of our Karst uplands. Leading to a hard resistant upper layer that has less clints and grykes and displays, as here, with a smoother limestone pavement.
However, like other limestone pavements, nature works hard and with the wet mild conditions, there is a lot more growth and vegetation in their surfaces these days!
This is my first experience of street photography: strangers and no stage... It turned out it's not so easy in the absence of autofocus ..

After a great day out in the Lakes I offered to show John Bleakley the fascinating karst landscape of Gait Barrow on the way back home.
It is so different to the Limestone landscape you see generally in Northern England. The limestone here is so impervious, so it features much less erosion and break up. It almost looks like a solid concrete floor, but for the odd fissure. Here is a shot showing a bit of the Barrow and how life still manages to exist on its broad expanse.

The rising morning sun reveals what the darkness hid, the rickety condition of an old barn left to deteriorate. As I have aged, I have noticed it is the mornings that more readily identify the consequences of my growth rings, an unsteady gait, eyes that focus less sharply and a lingering question if today might be The Day.
Two stars of the Gait Barrows emerge from the Limestone table. The Karst landscape here is most unusual with the hard impermeable cap of Carboniferous Limestone resisting the sort of erosion you see on most of our Limestone landscapes in the UK.
The fissures and cracks that do open up are soon populated with pockets of flora and fauna. I couldn't resist this shot. I did sit here for over 90 minutes hoping the sun would break through. But despite a forecast of "Sunny Intervals", I reluctantly left with only this grey shot to show for my endeavours!
It's a good excuse to return and explore in better light at some point in the next few weeks!

"Paso fino" is a breed of horses developed in South America and the Caribbean by crossbreeding Andalusian, Barb, and Jennet horses of Spanish stock that are characterized by a smooth lateral 4-beat gait in which the front and hind feet of the same side lift off the ground simultaneously with the hind foot hitting the ground just before the front foot.

A graceful gait, an elegant long-limbed stance, or this spontaneous pose under the photographer's gaze - all exude poise and dignity amid the bustle and commotion of a weekly market in Ethiopia's lower Omo Valley. Lalo, a young Hamar woman of marrying age, vogued this spontaneous pose at the market in a small frontier town in the remote Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Region of southwestern Ethiopia. Shot near the end of a long dry season regularly exceeding 40°C in the shade.
Elegantly adorned with a traditional cowrie-shell collar, seeded necklaces, copper bracelets, and glass-beaded goatskin clothing. The hairstyle consists of short tightly twisted strands rubbed in a mixture of fresh cow butterfat, ground red ochre, and tree resin gathered from the lower Omo River Basin.
The Hamar are semi-nomadic herders and farmers who live in small settlements or hamlets scattered across the hills, plains, wooded riverines, and dry thorny bush terrain in the lower Omo River Valley, near Ethiopia's border with northern Kenya and South Sudan.
