On my weekly trip to Fairfield California I pass a graveyard in Rio Vista California and see this statue watching over a family plot. This statue is about 2 m (6' 6") tall.

Entering the agricultural sector from the Inca Trail, one can find see the extensive artificial agricultural terraces, and in a higher place a three-wall enclosure: the "Casa del Guardián" or "Puesto de Vigilancia". From there you can see the course of the Urubamba River and the surrounding cemetery, and enjoy a spectacular view of the complex. The cemetery was identified as such by Bingham, it is thought that this was the place of custody. Its thatched roof has been restored.

The guardian - The iconic and classic view of the River Coupall falls in morning autumn light, dominated by the backdrop of Stob Dearg (Buachaille Etive Mòr - the herdsman of Etive).

Undoubtedly Scotland's finest mountain set in an impressive and incredibly beautiful landscape, the Buachaille stands guarding the entrance to Glencoe from Rannoch Moor.

Under Guard - It was fun to photograph these beautiful American Avocets watch over their young early this spring with some good friends.

Had the wrong lens for this particular occasion, the prime + a 1.4x extender would have provided a better background, but was still happy with the result. Been fun going through these older files with a new post-processing workflow.

While composing this image, the charred and dead trees were used to frame the remnants of color. Their blackened silhouettes tend to lead one into the shot, while also reminding us of the tragic end they met during the fires of last year. Perhaps guardians of color, or the sacrificial lambs, either way, it will take time before this forest returns to its previous flourishing presence.
