G Street Fabrics never was a fancy place. Back in the day, when it was on G Street, it was a quilter's mecca. Quilters from all over the country shopped there. I once met some members of an Idaho quilters club (about 2,000 miles away) who chartered a plane to shop at G Street once a year.
Online fabric stores have largely taken over that business, but locals still prefer to see, touch, and buy in person.

Lauren uses this quilt as an example. NONE of these prints are straight. They were either put ON the shirt on an angle on purpose (Gaithersburg), or the design was created to be purposely off kilter (flying carpet) or it's crooked as a result of the printing process (Kennedy Center).

The colors of the red shirts are off. They're all about the same shade, but for some are showing more pink or orange.
The "DARK GREEN" around the two shirts will actually be the same lime green as the rest of the binding. The dark color is just a visual reminder to me that I need to cut those pieces special for those areas.
This detail shows how I was able to place the Delft motifs for maximum impact. This dress also has inserted ruffles: above, light blue mini gingham and below red/white star print. The blue-centered daisy buttons were purchased at G Street Fabrics, as was the tricolor braid used as a neck drawstring.
The print on the left is from Kashi at Metro Textiles in November. I neeeeeeded the blue to go with.
I know....I have a lot of fabric. I have more on the way too...
Clockwise from top left: the teal plaid is from Ipso Crafto, an absolutely wonderful craft store I just found in Barracks Row/DC. They are dying in these shitty economic times and are closing. Everything is 30% off. Next to that is a Japanese import, an Echino print I think. The next 2 are from my deeply beloved remnants table at G Street in Rockville (the lighter one is a striped green/white...I really really love it). The navy blue gingham is from Exquisite Fabrics in DC. They are about to relocate so almost everything there is on sale too.
