Another London Transport Publicity Department Photo' Post-Card.
This is of GS 3 MXX 303 which was new 03rd October- 1953 , so the original photograph must have been taken around that time , as the Bus is new and probably not in Service .
The GS Class were purchased in 1953 to replace both pre-war and early post war small buses on lightly trafficked routes in the Country area of London Transport .
A strange little bus , built on a GUY Chassis NLLVP with a Perkins engine , a bonnet made by Briggs Motors of Dagenham (who no doubt supplied the same parts to Ford for their truck chassis built at Dagenham ) .
The body was built by E C W at Lowestoft and was designed for 26 seats .
84 were built , scattered all over London Transport's Country Area, sometimes with just 2 or 3 at a garages .
Whether they were used on Route 383 from Hitchin to Walsworth ,or this was an RF blind inserted into the box for the photograph I do not know .
The welder from La Marzocco went crazy one day and built some Ti boilers for this one off GS3. You think a cool machine like this would have stayed in the collection, but Jen's from Portaflon now owns it. I'm sure he will take great care of it though
. Yes, Jen's I'm Jealous!
