Opening-night festivities for the Denver Center Theatre Company's "Animal Crackers." This boisterous comedy about the theft of a valuable painting from a society dinner party is quintessential Marx Brothers mayhem. "Animal Crackers" plays through May 11 in the Stage Theatre at the Denver Performing Arts Complex. Call 303-893-4100 or go to www.denvercenter.org. Photo by John Moore.
After two sailors (Marx & Bendix) are conned into buying a lame race-horse, they go ashore to sort out the problem, but when they realise that the horse is one of a pair of identical twins, their plan for revenge becomes more complicated.
That's my brother on the left, my dad on the right. There's a resemblance without the Groucho Marx glasses, but with them? Twins!

Here Harpo displays at the railway station demonstrates how, when they get out West, how he will shovel up the gold from the streets. The best scene comes at the end of the movie when they race the villain Red Baxter played by Robert Barrat on a train that runs out of fuel. Very funny.
Groucho as Dr Hugo Z.Hackenbush is conned by ice cream seller Chico in selling to him form books on horses in the race. Very cleverly done and a memorable scene.
This was also the 2nd appearance of Allan Jones.
When I first spotted these three lions or leopards on the medieval Old Market Hall in Shrewsbury, I thought they were three Groucho Marxes. Time for a visit to the opticians?

This has to be another of my personal favourites. The Villan here, a Nazi is played by Sig Ruman as Count Pfefferman alias Heinrich Stubel. Here Harpo cleaning his room manages to suck Sig's wig into the vacuum.

After a year of procrastination we finally used our free passes to Universal Studios. While in line for the backlot tour, we spent a little time chatting with Mr. Groucho Marx. I must admit, he looks pretty good for his age.
Groucho, Chico y Harpo se pelean en la recepción del hotel de "Los cuatro cocos" (1929). Fue la primera obra de teatro que los hermanos Marx llevaron al cine.
