According to the GSMNP website, Newfound Gap Road between Gatlinburg, Tennessee and Cherokee, North Carolina "is the only route that completely traverses the Great Smoky Mountains National Park." Scenic overlooks along this drive offer spectacular views of the Smokies. The overlook at Newfound Gap, where this shot was made, is the highest point along this drive. It is also a place where you can stand on the dividing line between Tennessee and North Carolina.

The clouds filled this valley, giving it an interesting look!! Things are always different than they may appear right now. The clouds lift and a valley appears, just like in life hard times come, and God will carry us through. God Bless all, God has got this!!!!

I spent quite a bit of time here when I visited. When I wasn't battling the sun, I was battling people. This is a very busy waterfall, and for good reason. It is simply gorgeous.

George W. "Carter" Shields fought with the Union Army during the Civil War and purchased this property in 1910 and lived in this home for 11 years before selling it to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Great Smoky Mountains National Park lies on the border between North Carolina and Tennessee in the Southern Appalachian mountains.
