There's a temple in the middle of the Hofgarten: it's the Diana Temple and it was built more than 400 years ago.

I don't often fire my 90D's built-in flash, but sometimes I remember to do so and it pays off :)

On the site of the Castle of Pombal there was first a Roman castro, which later became an Arab fortress. It was only in 1156 that the construction of the Romanesque castle began, which would allow the development of the town of Pombal - could it be that there were already many pigeons around, even in the 12th century? 😛

A cloud-covered Spring day is simply perfect for a stroll on the beach of Nazaré (or any other beach, for that matter) - no scorching heat and no crowds, just the sea and the amazing sky: what I call paradise :)

This species is a part of the larger grouping of owls known as typical owls, Strigidae, which contains most species of owl. The other grouping is the barn owls, Tytonidae.

The collared scops owl is a common breeding bird in forests and other well-wooded areas. It nests in a hole in a tree, laying 3-5 eggs.

The collared scops owl is a small (23–25 cm) owl, although it is the largest of the scops owls. Like other scops owls, it has small head tufts, or ears. The upperparts are grey or brown, depending on the subspecies, with faint buff spotting. The underparts are buff with fine darker streaking.

The facial disc is whitish or buff, and the eyes are orange or brown. There is a buff neckband. Sexes are similar. The flight is deeply undulating.

This species is nocturnal but it can often be located by the small birds that mob it while it is roosting in a tree. It feeds mainly on insects. The call is a quiet goog gook.

This species is chiefly found in northern India and is replaced by the very similar looking oriental scops owl Otus sunia (recently split) towards the south of its range. It is very similar also to the slightly smaller Indian scops owl, O. bakkamoena. They are most easily separated in the field by their calls.

Alaric had decided to borrow a wooden raft and go on the nearest sea to catch some silver fishes. Unfortunately, it took him longer than expected, and as night fell, skeletons began to emerge from the water, attacking him. Will he manage to escape this nightmarish situation?

This path runs along what's called Fonte da Areia ("Sand Fountain"). These wind-sculpted cliffs are made of eolianites, which is a fancy way of referring to rocks formed by sediments carried by the wind and turned into rock. They are more than 30,000 years old, and this is where the sand of the Beach of Porto Santo comes from, travelling all the way from the north to the south shore of the island.

Excerpt from bordee-qc-ca.translate.goog/nouvelle/des-etincelles-dans-...:

In front of us, the vertigo , a giant mural to be seen from the intersection of boulevard Charest and rue Dorchester until next spring.

For this 2022-2023 season, La Bordée was pleased to offer Quebec artist Nadia Morin the mandate to create a new mural. This collaboration proved to be fruitful, since it made it possible to broaden the theme of our programming, Devant nous le vertige, to hitherto untapped avenues. Moreover, Nadia knew how to remain in perfect cohesion with our programming, because, like our plays on the bill, her work gives rise to a shared experience of vertigo during its contemplation. This artist has generously agreed to open the doors of her creative studio to us. Here, she tells us about the journey that led her to the creation of the mural, which, for the months to come, will proudly sit on the back wall of our theatre.

In my practice, I was already interested in the notion of vertigo, in this powerful, unknown and intriguing feeling of throwing oneself into the void, of being attracted to it. To assess the possibilities and take a risk that lives up to our aspirations, this passage to another world or another stage. When I found out that the theme of the mural was Devant nous le vertigo, I thought it echoed my artistic work perfectly. My creation aims to arouse in the public a sweet amalgam of emotions: a poetic vision. It represents the bubbling interiority aroused by the urgency of upheavals and inviting, positive novelties. My works visually transpose the relationship between community and intimacy, which echoes not only the theme of the season, but also the mission of La Bordée.

At the start, I immediately thought of divers, since they are a good metaphor for the attraction of the void, this movement towards an elsewhere. Launching, diving, immersing and summoning the splendor of a new space. Then my thoughts drifted towards the circus artists: tightrope walkers, trapeze artists, acrobats, etc. In their careers, they tend to tame vertigo, appropriate it and reinterpret it into a spectacular event that defies fear. The universe of the circus is very similar to dreams, to our part of the imagination, to fireworks in the night to impress, ephemeral and grandiose moment of magic. I tried, through the mural, to evoke a part of it.

Besides, I always include elements of nature in my collages; I wanted this time to transpose the desire to climb the immensity of the mountains, to reach their summits with unreachable appearances of which we like to be the temporary conquerors. The clouds graze the summit and through the opening on the sky map, I wanted to create a reminder of the raised eyes contemplating the extent of a cartography of constellations and to evoke this moment when one feels so small and overwhelmed. The size of the territories around us can also make you dizzy, as can the possibility of losing their beauty, their access, due to climate change. The fall represents the possibility of this overflow, but also another entry into the void, like an invitation to dare to dive, just to see...

Finally, I wanted to tempt the spectator, to offer him the possibility of experiencing vertigo himself, of climbing the ladder to join the trapeze artists; at the same time, I hope to give it the feeling of grandeur from the bottom of the mural and a different perspective from the heights. Through the colors, I wanted to evoke a sunrise or a sunset and I wanted to offer light to the autumn and winter seasons to come. And if this mural wanted to be sparks in the concrete, a dreamlike landscape to support the vertigo of everyday life and aspire to that of the greatest moments?

– Nadia Morin

The air was so cold (5ºC/41ºF) and there was so much fog, that it made the water look almost black, which served to accentuate the mirror effect with the reflection of the snow-covered banks of the Covão do Curral Reservoir, in Serra da Estrela.

I saw many of these floating nests during my walk in the Nymphenburg Palace Park. This one was built in a particularly quiet spot of the park and it got me thinking that those birds have a firm grip on the golden real estate concept of "location, location, location" :)

Anyway, those are my New Year wishes for everyone 👀. Let's raise a toast to 2023, hoping that it brings joy, love, and health for us all 🎉✨

From this perspective, the visible part of the fort measures about 460 feet (thanks Google Earth!). At waterline, the whole cruise ship measures 535 feet. However, that difference does not account for the fact that, in this photo, the Bugio looks like a tiny lighthouse tower in comparison to the Wind Surf. Of course, even if it were tiny, and given the choice, I'd still rather live in the Bugio :)

Oeiras - Portugal
