The picture was taken on Golden Hair.

This small fly (~3/8", 9mm), with a golden spot on its thorax, attracted my attention immediately.

This Gold-backed Snipe Fly was seen at Lake St Clair Metropark.

"Where is she?" They asked, peeking into the dorm room.

"She is sleeping, shhhh!" her roommate said, grabbing a hoody and closing the door gently while shoving the others out. "Do not disturb her."

"But she is always sleeping! Let's wake her up and drag her out. It's been a month, she always ditches our hang outs."

"Shush! Give her time." she swatted at them, "Let's just go, we will be late for the movie!" Her roomie exclaimed, dragging along the other grumbling friends.

The room was quiet apart from the light snoring and equally calm purring from the felines curled up on her legs and above the head. The sun's last stretch before the night prevails was halted by the black curtains covering her window.

Usually, it was hard to sleep but lately it has been her solace, the best escape she could ask for. Her mind silenced and forced to live in a certain moment. It seemed better than any of her usual escapes. Maybe because her dreams were always laced with red roses, heavy rains and breaking dawns.

She was always taken into new unexpected adventures that at times she didn't know if she was still asleep or awake. For now, she will live in her dreams and maybe someday she will return to the real world.

♥ Thank you very much for your visits, faves, and kind comments ♥

It's been awhile since I posted a picture of one of my children. I'm acutely aware that portraits are not as popular on Flickr. I've even had some well meaning messages sent to my Flickr inbox telling me I would have better success in choosing one or the other to post. I suppose this is true... I started an Instagram page for the sole purpose of landscapes @rachelbrokawphotography

but Flickr has and probably will always be a way of just sharing my favorite pictures no matter what they are. So I hope this doesn't bother anyone but there will always probably be sprinkles of my children mixed onto my Flickr page. So here's fair warning:) This picture is from a few days ago. It had stayed cloudy and cool but no lightning so I was willing to venture out into this open space. The trail curves through rolling hills before climbing to this large open space. The sun is front at this spot and perfect for cloudy days for the soft light. Elijah who is now 2, still has short legs that make it hard to keep up with all the hills. This Radio Flyer has came in handy on so many occasions. When we reached the top I pulled him into the field to quickly get this shot of the cloudy skies and gentle light in the clouds. I love using my 85mm for the soft bokeh it brings and also so I can back up further away so he forgets I'm even taking pictures. I love it when that happens!! There is a fire that is in somewhat close proximity - not dangerously so but enough to have smokey air. Makes my heart sad to see all the fires again in Colorado. This also meant a fire ban was in place for 4th of July in most places. I hope this coming Winter yields more moisture and that this dry trend stops somehow. Many of my favorite areas are currently on fire. Prayers and good thoughts for rain are much appreciated. Me and the kids have terrible colds and will probably spend the weekend at home with the AC blasting catching up on favorite movies haha. Sending much love to each one of you. Thank you as always for taking the time to read my thoughts and support me on my photography adventure!

xx

Yes, perms are back and proud to say that I did this all by myself! I used to have my hair like this thrity years ago when my carreer then was hairdresser and Beauty therapist. Now when I am in a hurry or go away I can simply wash my hair and let the sun and the wind do the rest. The beauty is Fluffy can run his hands through it, or I can go to bed and get up in the morning and it still hasnt moved! Its great to have a change and if I want it smooth again I can simply blow dry it with a brush. Theres nothing like a new look to do you the power of good.

(sorrry for the slight blur caused by the one min exposure on some temporary support ( in the darkness just after sunset), as I did not have my tripod with me on that evening....

About Beauty & Nature:

I was engrossed deeply in thought and my spirits were sailing the firmament when a hour, wearing a sprig of grapevine that covered part of her naked body, and a wreath of poppies about her golden hair, suddenly appeared to me. As she realized my astonishment, she greeted me saying, "Fear me not; I am the Nymph of the Jungle."

"How can beauty like yours be committed to live in this place? Please tell me who you are, and whence you come?" I asked. She sat gracefully on the green grass and responded, "I am the symbol of nature! I am the ever virgin your forefathers worshipped, and to my honor they erected shrines and temples at Baalbek and Jbeil." And I dared say, "But those temples and shrines were laid waste and the bones of my adoring ancestors became a part of the earth; nothing was left to commemorate their goddess save a pitiful few and the forgotten pages in the book of history."

She replied, "Some goddesses live in the lives of their worshippers and die in their deaths, while some live an eternal and infinite life. My life is sustained by the world of beauty which you will see where ever you rest your eyes, and this beauty is nature itself; it is the beginning of the shepherds joy among the hills, and a villagers happiness in the fields, and the pleasure of the awe-filled tribes between the mountains and the plains. This Beauty promotes the wise into the throne of the truth."

You make it bright when it's grey

You're my golden girl

Golden hair caught by a ray of the rising sun as early risers surf and walkers stroll along the Gold Coast sands. Further north mist and rain begin to immerse downtown Surfers Paradise.

My 3 yr old son is terrified of lightning and thunderstorms. I'm not sure where he got the name or idea from but he calls the lightning "The Black Hole". I almost titled the image that but it sounded a little ominous especially if you didn't read the description. In the evenings when the thunderstorms roll in and the faint deep rumbles of thunder are heard, he whispers terrified to himself, "The Blackhole!" Then comes running to my arms. We sit in the darkness and I hold him, stroke his hair and talk to him. We talk about the thunder, I tell him why it happens, I tell him funny stories about it. He just listens with his head on my chest. When the storm is over he's up off my lap and life is good again. Even as an adult I still have fears. They aren't of thunderstorms anymore but they can feel just as real. Maybe it's discouragement, a fear of failure, it can be one and the same and I could definitely label it the Dark Hole at times. When my "thunderstorms" roll in, I am learning to give myself the same consideration as I do my son. Stop, talk myself through it, Sit and think in the quiet. I tell myself the logical side of things, the humorous side of things and even give myself a pep talk. Eventually the thunderstorm ends and I feel like a better version of myself. Facing your fears can just mean dealing with them at times. As long as we come out alright on the other end.

On a lighter note, I love thunderstorms. I love the smell of wet rain on the dirt, the bass of the thunder grumbling in the night and the bright flashes of lightning that light up the dark night. And I love cuddling my little boy;)

I didn't think I had an Anja, but as I was re-organizing (Again) I found my only one!

So I got to do the doll of the week after all!!!

I love the mood and feel of this image. It reminds me of strength and courage through an oncoming storm. Regardless of whether or not we have prepared for it, it's about having enough faith in oneself to believe you will overcome it. Another moody image, I can't help it. My lovely daughter is a pro by now in modeling for me and is such a joy to shoot with.

On another note, I know I have been SO behind here on Flickr. I have missed seeing your beautiful images and am going to attempt to play catch up tonight! I NEED to play catch up as I am running low on inspiration tonight and you all are an extra big dose of inspiration. I hope you week has gone well and you are riding out any storms that have passed your way. Much love! xxoo

Natural light can also look great, if you spot the right place.

Shot in front of "Blue Bay" resort during sunset.

She's a flight attendant and a stunning model too.

Enjoy.

We have a saying in Norway which goes like this; "Out hiking, never grumpy" (UtPåTurAldriSur), its my favorite saying, cause how could you be grumpy with a view like this😊
