The day of our annual shopping and ladies lunch with my sister, our bestie and our Mom. Only no shopping this year. Lunch and a gift exchange today. We have been doing this for almost a dozen years now and it is still a favorite holiday tradition. I got them each one of these little guys for their gift this year. It is always fun shopping for some cute Christmas decorations for them all! So glad my Mom is still able to join us as I know she has always enjoyed being a part of it.
Happy Monday and I hope you all have a fun week ahead!
Handmade for Me theme---Crazy Tuesday
Made for me by a daughter who knits, she has a whole table full of knit gnomes.
In Norway, the Nisse as they are known bring gifts to children who leave a bowl of porridge for them on Christmas Eve.

At last the long wait is over. The much anticipated HBO series Game of Gnomes returns tonight and we will finally find out.....What?.....Game of Thrones?.....Never mind.....
This gnome was here when we bought the house over 40 years ago. You never see him move but he does get around. I caught him digging these Halloween gourds out of the ground and tossing them up on the stoop to make a display. I never saw him move, but later he had completed the display in the previous photo and I was well pleased with his work.

This lonely gnome was placed at the front of the church's gift shop and could not refuse to capture his image, he did not require any permission release.
Curiosity got the better of her and she decided to in for a peek. In the blink of an eye, the little adventurer was gone and never returned. I searched high and lo , but as it turns out this door was an entrance only. There does exist a matching door in another land and it is the only exit. I wonder what kind of journey she will take and when we will see her again... I sure will miss her.
But I am certain she will show up on our flickr streams again someday, in an enchanting world far away from here.
Door inspired by the keeper of the matching door. :)

It has been unseasonably warm, so Fionna and I went for a walk. We came upon this strange little door and she was sure she heard tiny voices coming from inside.
Surveying the newly blooming Phlox, and discussing what annuals to plant in front of them this spring. (Mid-May is when it is safe to plant non-frost hardy plants in my area.)

ANSH117 #10 "A little world"
This is a collection of miniature garden gnomes I discovered on a walk around my neighborhood. It is rather heavily cropped due to my not noticing some not family friendly gnomes off to the left side until I started editing this.

A nice group of small fungi growing out of that moss-covered tree in the woodlands next to Tottiford reservoir, Dartmoor National Park. As with my previous fungus shot I tried to include a lot of the background not just focussing on the fungi for more context. Strange fact: there was a single small shard of glass laying on top of that stump.
The Manchester Ship Canal...
OPENED IN 1894, THE MANCHESTER Ship Canal linked Manchester to the Irish Sea near Liverpool. After six years of work and construction, the 36-mile canal made Manchesterâs docks the third-largest in the country, despite the fact the city is 40 miles inland. The canal remained in industrial use for almost 100 years until 1984 when the docks closed, as container ships and other industrial vessels became too large for the canal.
Even 30 years after its closure, the concrete âislandsâ that held the structures along the canal remained. It was on one such island that in 2017, the outgrown canal welcomed a much smaller guest than its previous behemoths, a single gnome.
Gnorman, a trailblazer of sorts, arrived on the abandoned concrete island in 2017 and claimed it as his gnomestead. Joining her husband shortly after was Gnorma, at which point the dwarfish dominion was well and truly established. Within no time, the cone-hatted couple welcomed twins, Gnoah and Gnatalie, and enlisted the much-needed help of Gnormanâs parents Gnellie and Gnorbert, who still live with the happy family.
As with many family homes, the island is visited yearly by its very own gnomish Santa Claus over the Christmas period and the pintsized colony continues to grow. Gnoddy and Gneddy, a same-sex gnome couple who moved to the island in 2020 were heavily damaged during an act of vandalism.
Though Gnome Island sits on the Salford side of the canal, it is best viewed from the Trafford banks since this is the direction the gnomes face. They can be seen from the canalside, as well as from the passing water taxis.

A random find , a neighbour's cat keeping the gnomes company on a very hot day today . This sheltered corner never gets any sun , so a good place to keep cool .
The gnomes were re-located from Kernow where they lived at my father's place and when we had to clear everything out they decided to come home with us !
