The best place to be [:

My friends during our last sunset in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica.

I've returned to the real world - presentations and midterms, Russian conjugations and an 840 page GMAT practice book. There's nothing better than getting to spend 10 days with a bunch of people you adore in a beautiful place with yummy food, crystal clear water and an endless supply of amazing sunsets.

I'm trying to recreate a bit of that relaxation by watching Sex & the City with some mushroom pizza, half-conscious, on about one hour of sleep after around 30 hours of travel. I refuse to touch the GMAT book or any homework until tomorrow. I'm still on vacation for a few more hours ;)

Hope you all have a great week!

The conversions were performed by Pacific Airmotive on behalf of the Allison Engine Company. Cost of the conversions was around £175,000 per aircraft and took 60 days. General Motors Air Transport (GMATs) also used CV-580's on their internal air shuttle operation which ran between Detroit Metro Airport, Dayton,OH, Anderson, IN and other locations as needed.

Spectacular city of Riga, Latvia :)

-deep sigh- There's a light at the end of the tunnel after all!! After being clobbered by school/life and coming to the realization that although I love the freedom my future affords me, I'm still *me* who needs to have at least some idea of things (and I've got it figured out now!). That's helped me relax a lot. I'll be in Costa Rica next week, AAAANND ... drumroll... going to the Czech Republic for a week!!! :D :D :D Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Words cannot express how badly I want to see my family. After seeing photos of recent birthday parties, it really hammered home how long it's been and it broke my heart.. I'm so, so excited. I managed to find pretty cheap tickets so it's perfect. Yayayay! That's behind much of my cheeriness :]]

So now it's time to buckle down and study study study for the GMAT, do a little application magic and enjoy the ride. I'm so fortunate to be surrounded by great people, the most beautiful view (Mammoth, at the moment!) and have things (more) figured out now. I'm very lucky.

I hope you all have an amazing weekend and any weight on your shoulders is lifted :o)

Cheers!

I've got the travel bug. A really really bad travel bug. It's so bad that I planned my entire trip all the way down to how much the public transit costs in each city. I want to go to Italy and try their gelato. I want to go to the magnificent Iceland caves. I want to go to Egypt and say that I rode a camel. I want to see the world through their eyes and best of all, immerse myself into their cultures.

Of course, this entire plan was ruined when I realized my budget doesn't satisfy my necessities to survive in these alien countries. Even when I did an ultimate low cost projection that included the cheapest hostels possible, my results still yielded a shaky and unwanted answer. Boo @ tuition costs and I curse at inflation. I could easily take a loan out, but I'd rather not have the burden of taking on a non-existant financial eggnest, thanks. Besides, I'm busy studying right now. I'll be preparing to write my CFA and GMAT in the future. And who knows, maybe I'll land that wicked consulting job and travel the world while working at the same time! Time to have a long-term relationship with my books <3

There's been too much rainy days lately.

Used a Canon SD750.

i couldn't come up with a nice title for this one...

it's the 20th week of the year, i can't believe how fast time is passing by. it's slipping thru my hands and there's nothing i can do. but i guess there's time for everything.

there's a time for us to let go

there's a time for holding on

a time to speak, a time to listen

there's a time for us to grow

this is the time of our lives

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

a lot of time to study for me for the next month, so i won't be on that much, so i apologize in advance for not commenting that much... =(

i'm procrastinating more than ever and that is not good.

this week looks promising, hopefully i wont be sick by tomorrow! baaah!

it looks better large

So.. I decided to take a break between my studying schedules and treat myself by making new blog post featuring some awesome releases from my fav designers. The initial 1 hour break turned out to be a 5 hours break due to some nerve wracking photoshop tricks I tried to master. Thanks to BadOn Rain and Dana Yotov, I could fix some flaws. Anywho... I hope you all like this post and wish me luck on my gmat exam. >_<

Soundtrack!

Dassault Falcon 7X executive jet G-MATO, operated by Air Charter Scotland, at Gloucestershire Airport after a short flight from Luton Airport on 29th February 2024.

I was somewhat surprised to see this guy leaning against a bicycle stand, propping up his laptop in the bright afternoon sunlight. What could he be doing here, on the east side of Broadway between 80th and 81st Street?

I suppose I could have asked him, but he looked pretty focused on what he was doing ... so I looked around for an explanation. Aha, yes, there it was, right behind me: one of the many Starbucks coffeeshops in the neighborhood. Starbucks has a publicly-accessible Wifi network, which most people use indoors (that's the whole point, obviously: you go inside, buy yourself a ridiculously expensive latte, and then sit there and sip it while you surf the Web). But this guy had figured out that he could access the signal from outside, and was probably too cheap to go indoors and pay for a cup of coffee.

I'm sad to report that his laptop was a Dell computer, rather than a classy Mac Powerbook that I would have preferred to see ...

**********************

This is part of an evolving photo-project, which will probably continue throughout the summer of 2008, and perhaps beyond: a random collection of "interesting" people in a broad stretch of the Upper West Side of Manhattan -- between 72nd Street and 104th Street, especially along Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue.

I don't like to intrude on people's privacy, so I normally use a telephoto lens in order to photograph them while they're still 50-100 feet away from me; but that means I have to continue focusing my attention on the people and activities half a block away, rather than on what's right in front of me.

I've also learned that, in many cases, the opportunities for an interesting picture are very fleeting -- literally a matter of a couple of seconds, before the person(s) in question move on, turn away, or stop doing whatever was interesting. So I've learned to keep the camera switched on (which contradicts my traditional urge to conserve battery power), and not worry so much about zooming in for a perfectly-framed picture ... after all, once the digital image is uploaded to my computer, it's pretty trivial to crop out the parts unrelated to the main subject.

For the most part, I've deliberately avoided photographing bums, drunks, drunks, and crazy people. There are a few of them around, and they would certainly create some dramatic pictures; but they generally don't want to be photographed, and I don't want to feel like I'm taking advantage of them. I'm still looking for opportunities to take some "sympathetic" pictures of such people, which might inspire others to reach out and help them. We'll see how it goes ...

The only other thing I've noticed, thus far, is that while there are lots of interesting people to photograph, there are far, far, *far* more people who are *not* so interesting. They're probably fine people, and they might even be more interesting than the ones I've photographed ... but there was just nothing memorable about them.
