Here in The South west of England we are getting off lightly as the storm largely passes north of us.

Storm Babet batters large parts of country.

A rare red weather alert issued by the Met Office warning of a "danger to life from fast flowing or deep floodwater" has been extended until midnight on Saturday.

More disruption is expected elsewhere across the UK, with amber warnings for wind and rain issued for parts of northern England, the Midlands and northern Wales until 6am on Saturday.

The Environment Agency has issued 150 flood warnings - in areas where flooding is expected - and 194 flood alerts, where flooding is possible.

An adult male Sparrowhawk dries out after getting a soaking.

He had been perched on the hawthorn for several minutes when there was a sudden heavy shower.

As soon as the rain stopped he shook vigorously and then spread his feathers to dry in the sun.

The rain drops are still hanging onto the bright red haws.

The forests around the Makarora area are simply spectacular. Beautiful deep green colours with clean streams of fast waters braking the otherwise uninterrupted silence.

It took me a good couple of hours to get this shot right. I had to take it from a suspended bridge which wasn't very stable. But it was definitely worth it.

Sometimes when out on photography excursions, we just get lucky. I spotted this young white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) buck from a distance, and thought it might make for an interesting shot if I incorporated the gnarled, low-hanging branches of an ancient mesquite as a foreground element. I never expected that he would pass through in a pose that almost perfectly mimicked the shape of the branch.

"Getting back into shape after taking time off to wallow in depression is NOT easy! Still, despite feeling like a poor job of embalming for about a week, "things" are regaining their proper shape."

♫Korn feat. Skrillex - "Get Up"

hey, we’re getting close to having the sun back — just a few more days, maybe?

"Getting up close to a particular shadow element is every bit as important as witnessing it and relating to it. This is often quite an emotionally rocky ride, especially given that we may find ourselves without our usual adult skills, at least for a time, because the wounded child in us has surfaced to such a degree that we are looking through those eyes and feeling those feelings. The key is to get as close as possible to that part of ourselves without getting lost in that old worldview, staying emotionally raw even as we name and illuminate what is occuring." -Robert Masters

The statue at the back is Fountain, but I've never seen water spouting from it. Not sure if it's an engineering / mechanical issue, or one of societal prudery, see the writer-up from the inner-web....

"If you haven't seen the series of bendy lamppost sculptures yourself, check them out on social media! The pieces, entitled Fountain and Get Drunk, Fall Down, are constantly popping up on social media.

Designed by NSCAD alums Chris Hanson and Hendrika Sonnenberg, Fountain shoots a stream of water into the harbour, as though relieving itself after a long night out. Not far away, Get Drunk, Fall Down features another lamppost slumped across the pier, while its concerned friend looks on.

The two displays are described as “nakedly honest portraits of unseemly behaviours that are often playing out on our own streets after dark.” Installed as a temporary display in 2013 after it appeared at Toronto’s Nuit Blanche, the displays made a big impression on the city, and have since become a permanent fixture on the Halifax waterfront.

For a city known for its lively nightlife, it seems fitting that the citizens and visitors of Halifax have identified so strongly with the debauchery depicted by these cheeky waterfront sculptures!"

When you get tired of looking at old stuff in old buildings, sometimes the tourists/visitors become more interesting.

I had a great laugh taking this one--these people seemed to have no idea I was photographing them. I stood smack in front, almost waiting for someone to reprimand me, and aimed straight at them but they probably thought I was photographing the architectural details.

I liked the way this tree appears to be pushing its way ahead of the pack in a show-off kind of way. Taken in Hillock Woods, Prices Risborough

So I get up this morning... have breakfast, do my thing... get dressed, put on lipstick, tie my hair back, etc... drive downtown, pay for my parking, walk to the office and... Surprise! Guess who's "not wanted on the voyage" today?

Well... it's not that they don't want me. Just that they don't need me. At least not for the time being. So... home again home again, lickety split.

I did this one in a hurry... and it shows! And... yeah, I know, lots of distracting background stuff... and the window's too bright... etc. etc. But hey... in all likelihood, I have to go back to the office soon. So I don't have much time to waste on these shenanigans. (Hmm... I seem to be channeling an elderly man today... for some reason... Next thing you know, I'll be referring to myself as a couple of whippersnappers!)
