It’s been an unusually noneventful week for Stormtrooper Bruce, and in his boredom, STB has come up with an idea he’s going to spring on the guys during Movie Night. And throwing in his Brewskie Buddies will only help his cause.

TK-432: Dude, this is all very interesting, watching a bunch of bears eating during a snowstorm, but, except for your Brewskie Buddies, this doesn’t quite live up to my idea of Movie Night. No offense!

TK-1110: True that. Granted, watching them knock everything over was unexpected. And they were kinda cute racing off like a bunch of speeder bikes… but … I’m used to real movies on Movie Night. No offense!

STB: Guys, you’ve been real champs putting up with this unexpected “break” in our usual routine, but I’ve been watching you watch these video clips, and you have actually laughed out loud, exclaimed in surprise, and jumped in your cushions exclaiming, “Did you just see that!” So now I’d like to present my latest idea. Please hear me out first before….

TK-432: Oh no! Not another one of your crazy ideas for pranking Vader, Fett or NuBie.

TK-1110: I knew it! I knew you were up to something. You love Movie Night as much as we do, and this, whatever this is, is not Movie Night.

STB: Well, so much for hearing me out first. OK, remember that last announcement the P made when we were all assembled the other day? He mentioned a new wing of the Petting Zoo will be opening soon, and he expects everyone, Troopers and Officers alike, to check it out.

TK-432: Oh that. Yeah, that one sent shivers down my spine. Mandatory attendance – big surprise.

TK-1110: What does that have to do with the price of tea in Endor?

STB: Well, I want to propose to the P to provide a live feed of the animal activity going on in his zoo. Upselling how not everyone gets the chance to enjoy the zoo since their duties keep them busy, sending them to other planets, other galaxies. But a live feed will allow them that chance from any location!

TK-432: Go on.

STB: I’ll show him some of these highlights, explaining how other worlds take great joy in wildlife cams, getting a sneak peek at the things that go on when we aren’t looking. I’ll make it sound so awesome he’ll want to do the same thing!

TK-1110: So, what’s in it for you?

STB: It’ll be a win win for everyone. The P wins because everyone on the ship will have 24/7 access to what’s going on in his Petting Zoo. And everyone wins because now no one will have to risk life or limb entering that crazy place to pet those creatures who’d rather eat you than be petted.

TK-432: Oh, I’m beginning to understand. This has real potential. But what about the talking animals clip you showed us?

STB: For his next talent show, I’ll suggest the P offers a prize for the funniest clip of his Petting Zoo’s animals. He’s bound to go for it! Making those beasts look all cute and adorable.

TK-1110: Well, you sold me. Now, if you don’t mind, put up your creepy, beastie props, and let’s watch some actual movies while it’s still Movie Night. And some Brewskie Buddy refills wouldn’t hurt either!

German Chocolate Cake

Music is one of my favorite parts of the Holiday's. That cake is kind of nice too !

This weeks theme in the Macro Mondays group is Happy 10 Years! This week celebrates the 10 year anniversary of the group.

I thought a cake was in order.

A small cake. A very small cake. A very small German Chocolate cake.

It was terrific.

HMM.

I baked a cake for National Chocolate Cake Day but it wasn't very attractive. I saw this cake at the bakery, I rarely buy this delicious cake because it is too delicious. I think I took about 50 photos before I found a photo I liked. I had a couple of hungry guys asking me are you done yet, are you done yet.

Movie Night with the guys is something Stormtrooper Bruce looks forward to each weekend. The guys know STB is the 'host with the most' when it comes to his movie marathons, food and drink, but over time they have also learned to expect the unexpected. It's the unplanned unexpected that sometimes catches them all off guard.

Vader: Pardon my intrusion on your little get-together, but I've come here to make an announcement.

STB:

Vader: What? No pathetic groveling about how I'm not intruding?

STB: Sir, you're always welcome here any time! It's no intrusion. I was, um... just waiting to hear what your announcement was. Sir.

Vader: Well, as you can see, I'm not here alone. While Palpatine's nephew and his family are away, I was tasked with watching his nephew's little Cujo Kitty.

STB: Well, um... lucky you! I know you two bonded really well the last time you had to watch him. Sooo, ummm... what is this?

Vader: Unfortunately, I will be away for two weeks on a secret mission that just came up. My announcement is - that while I am away, I am putting you in charge of Cujo. I know you have lots of experience in watching him in the past, too.

STB: But, Sir. I also have my duties next week in ...

Vader: You have been relieved of all your duties until I return. Your new duty is Cujo. I have brought most of his essentials, the rest will be delivered shortly. And, I made a list of his latest requirements. Are there any questions?

STB:

Vader: Then, since everything is settled, I'll leave now, so you and your little friends can get back to whatever this is. Good evening, troopers.

STB: Sir, yes, Sir. I won't let you down, Sir. Cujo and I will have a great time, Sir. We both know how important he is to Palpatine's nephew. Thank you so much for this opportunity, Sir.

Vader: Your groveling, while pathetic, is most appreciated. At least we do have one thing in common - keeping that kid happy.

Hoping to retire early for the evening, Stormtrooper Bruce was still a little on edge wondering if "anyone" would show up at the last minute. Finally, letting his guard down, the universe had other plans for STB.

EE: Unka Dude! Unka Dude! It's me, Elliott the Engineer!

STB: Egads, it's about time! I've been expecting you since early this morning. Now here I am, trying to enjoy my evening meal, and you come exploding through my door.

EE: Oh, it's been an exhausting day. Everywhere I looked in my quarters was something that started with an "E." I never knew there were so many E examples!

STB: That's funny, because as I look around my quarters, I don't see a single thing that fits the bill.

EE: Well, now you have three. I narrowed it down to these - an egg, envelopes and elephants. I threw in extra ones for extra credit.

STB: Well, that explains a lot. Excellent choices, too, I might add.

EE: It was easy once I decided to eliminate all the enormous ones like Unka Pappy, since he's an Emperor, and the elevator was too heavy, and I have an end table but, well, again too heavy.

STB: Wait a second, I have two end tables, so I do have "E" things. And, look, electricity! It's shocking!

EE: You're so funny! But you're forgetting eyes, ears, end elbows!

STB: OK, that's enough! You've exceeded all my expectations. A great way to end the day. Your extra credits are well earned!

Oh, btw, those donuts you left yesterday were excellent!

It's Movie Night again, and after a long, hectic week, Stormtrooper Bruce wants to make sure the lineup of movies, and the amount of food is more and adequate to make up for "a crummy week." STB knows the guys aren't too particular about what they watch or eat, but he still wants to make sure a good time is had by all!

TK-432: Dude, I still say Vader was messing with you when he told you the results of the Bake Off were going to be announced last weekend!

TK-1110: Exactly! The judges met Monday to make their final decision, and he's a judge so he knew it would be Monday. Rebel scum!

STB: Well, it's no big deal. We all know I never win, but somehow manage to be a "runner up." Besides, the prizes are always Bantha poo! So really, it's no big deal.

TK-432: What are you talking about? You tied for 3rd Place this time! Isn't that winning? It's totally IS a big deal!

TK-1110: Plus, your prize this time, having your recipe featured in the P's upcoming cookbook, is most definitely a big deal!

STB: True, there's been some nightmare prizes, and perhaps tying for 3rd is better than 4th. And now that you mention it, it IS a big deal when the 1st place prize was baking the birthday cake for the P's nephew.

TK-432: Oh, the horror! And on that note Mr. Big Deal, let's restart the movie, sit back, polish off that charcuterie board, and get this weekend started!

Gargoyles - on the Death Star

After a long and grueling week, Stormtrooper Bruce was geared up for Movie Night with the guys! There’s nothing better than great movies, tasty grub, and a few snorts and giggles thrown in for good measure.

TK-432: Don’t look now, but looks like you’ve got an unexpected guest.

Groot: Unka Dude, Unka Dude! It’s me, Groot! So great to see you again so soon! Lookit what I’ve got!

STB: Good grief, Little Dude! I thought you were grounded! Did your Unka Pappy give you time off for good behavior?

Groot: You’re so funny! Momma gave me permission to go buy a gift for Unka Pappy’s Tentacle Gardens, so I got him these gargoyles! They'll look great next to the new gazebo he’s getting for the Spring Fling. And then they can guard Haunted Alley with the other ones he has!

TK-1110: That’s so generous of you! I bet they'll make him grin ear to ear!

Groot: Oh, golly, that’d be great if that happened!

STB: Great galloping gumdrops, Groot! I just realized… but… I don’t get it! How are you doing it? I thought Groot could only say three words, and here you are - gabbing away like a gaggle of geese!

Groot: Ooopsie! I AM GROOT! Gotta go! Goodbye!

Not quite of Germanic origin; in fact, this type of cake was invented by Sam German, a chocolate maker that had contributed to the development of dark baking chocolate, that of which is used in the recipe of this confectionery delight.

It's close to 7PM here in the west coast... a bit early for cake, but I couldn't resist. Conceivably, I'll have to find another dessert post dinner. Still, I do need to load up on carbs tonight. Perhaps I'll have some Italian breadsticks with marinara while I catch up on my Batman tetralogy. Last weekend, I've missed my chance of acquiring one of those warm, soft-pretzels during my open carb-window. Maybe I'll go and grab one tonight?

It’s Movie Night again and Stormtrooper Bruce has prepared plenty of tasty treats for the guys to enjoy. Clearly STB’s quarters are THE place to be if you’re in need of some R&R at the end of a long week.

STB: Guys, didja ever wonder why some people say something “cutesy” instead of just saying what they mean? It’s almost like some weird kind of secret code.

TK-432: Um, no offense bro, but I haven’t got the foggiest idea what you’re talking about!

TK-1110: Me neither. I think you’re barking up the wrong tree.

STB: Great Galaxy, you two are doing it now. For example, why say “It’s not rocket science” or “A miss is as good as a mile” or “Monkey see, monkey do”?

TK-432: Oh, I get it. Like saying, “That’s the icing on the cake” or “Easy as pie” or “You want fries with that?”

TK-1110: Oh, I get it, too! How about “Don’t look a gift tauntaun in the mouth” or “Close but no cigar” or “Don’t count your chickens before they hatch.”

STB: Exactly! Why not just say what you... Oh, sorry sir. Didn’t hear you come in. Care to add your two cents worth since you’re here?

Vader: You Troopers are nuttier than last years fruitcake if you think I’m falling for your bag of tricks! Listening to your idiotic mumbo jumbo has fried my memory circuits. I’m outta here, exit stage left!

STB: But sir, why did you come here?

Vader: Why? If you have you ask, you’ll never know. If you know, you need only ask.

TK-432: Whoa! You know about the Room of Requirement?

Vader: Unfortunately, yes. The Emperor’s nephew seems to think my quarters are that blasted room, and just shows up unannounced! And whenever I ask him something he replies with that blasted line!

STB: Sir, if I may be so bold, if you’ve come looking for sanctuary from little “you know who” for the evening, I totally get it! If you don’t mind slumming, there’s enough grub and brewskies to go around.

Vader: Why, thanks! And, um, this will all be kept hush hush?

STB: Mum’s the word!

It's Movie Night again, but this weekend Stormtrooper Bruce is going rather low key after the hectic month he just experienced. Plus, STB knows with the holidays just around the corner, there's no time like the present to chill, rest up and recharge while he can. The guys just go with the flow.

TK-432: You know, I think I'm just going to take a quick power nap. Your bed is way more comfortable than what we have in our barracks! Wake me up when it gets interesting.

TK-1110: Are you kidding? These movies have something interesting happening in almost every scene!

TK-432: Then wake me up when the spider on the roller skates shows up.

TK-1110: You mean when things get Riddikulus?

STB: Guys, guys, settle down. Chillax! We've seen these movies dozens of times. That's why I chose this particular marathon, it's like comfort food for the brain. Know what I mean?

TK-1110: Yes, and no. They're oldies but goodies, some of my favorites! And even your props are cool. But what are they, exactly?

STB: Well, there's a crystal ball to gaze into the future, a candle to light the way to happiness, and then what might be Veritaserum to make you spill the beans and tell the truth, and finally, could be Liquid Luck, which is self-explanatory.

TK-432: Dude, you amaze me - Might be? Could be? Anyway, I really just need 5 minutes on the Night Bus, then I solemnly swear I'll be up to no good.

STB: No worries, take your time. We're just getting started, and the house elves will make sure there's enough food and cold ones to last this entire marathon and then some.

Since the guys showed up for Movie Night, Stormtrooper Bruce asked if they would agree to assist him with another of his photoshoots? Of course they were game.

TK-432: Dude, this job you're doing for the P is a total gift!

STB: Hold on there. It's not all fun and games. It's grueling work gathering up all these props, getting the correct angles, and then...

TK-1110: You, know. Your glowy eyed, shapeshifting girlfriend looks a bit put off from being ignored for so long. Guarding the DSPZ Gift Shop doesn't seem to agree with her.

STB: For the last time you two Gungans, that is NOT my girlfriend!

TK-432: Oh, look, I think she's going to serenade you.

STB: Guys! This is getting out of hand. Just let me grab a few more shots, and then we get on with our movies.

Hoping to raise credits for Palpatine's Find the Droids campaign next year, Stormtrooper Bruce is hard at work on another installation of his Trooper Stupor Calendar, proving Troopers are not all serious, all the time. The guys are just waiting for Movie Night to begin.

TK-432: Dude, don't know how you do it, but this one might be even more outrageous than your last one.

TK-1110: Definitely going to make a few folks say whaa?

STB: Yes, but those who get it will love it!

TK-IDK: Well, I don’t get it. Mind letting me in on what I’m supposed to be doing?

STB: Hold still, there's lots more angles I want to get.

TK-432: Eww, what's he splashing? You did put water in that, didn't you?

TK-1110: Water shmater - no matter WHAT that is, I'm not cleaning it up!

TK-432: Me neither. He who splashes cleans it up. You do remember where we found that pink porcelain throne this time, don't you?

TK-IDK: I don't know what that is, but if it's NOT water, someone is going to be rancor food.

STB: No worries, I've got it all under control. No use crying over spilled milk. Well, you get the drift.

TK-432: You know, I might be willing to buy your calendar just to have this one framed!

TK-IDK: I still don't know what I'm doing. Is someone going to tell me?

TK-1110: You must be a Muggle not to get it. If we tell you we'll just have to obliviate you.

TK-IDK: OK. That does it! I don't know what you're talking about so I think I'm done here.

STB: Turn back around and hold still for just a few more shots. This one might go on the front cover! The P is going to love this.

TK-432: Was that a joke? The P?

Several weeks ago Stormtrooper Bruce returned to his quarters when his shift was over only to find someone had played an April Fool's prank on him, leaving his quarters in total disarray. Since then he's been biding his time, and plotting his revenge once he learned the identity of his prankster. But he wasn't expecting this.

STB: Hello little dude! Long time no see. Don't you look... cute today.

Pepperoni Pizza: Hello Unka Dude! How are you! I sure missed you. Did you miss me? I'm not cute, I'm in disguise accause I'm running away to join a circus. Only I can't find one, so I came here to see you instead. So how did you like my surprise? Wasn't it awesome? Oh, and today I'm Pepperoni Pizza accause everyone loves pepperoni pizza, except for those vegetableterians.

STB: Whoa! Slow down there. How much coffee have you had today? That was WTMIAO! Way too much information at once. Why are you running away?

PP: Because Momma's making Spider Surprise Stew for dinner. I can't eat that! So I'm running away so I won't hurt her feelings. She said she found a new recipe on the web, and then ordered the ingredients on line. So I put two and two together and then, violin - I knew she was making spider surprise stew.

STB: Um, OK. You asked how I liked your surprise? You're not talking about that nightmare disaster I found in my quarters a few weeks ago are you?

PP: Disaster? It was all so beautiful. Bouquets of roses, presents, pretty umbrellas and even some new pots to cook in. And I left Cujo Kitty to guard it all until you got back.

STB: Well, um. I guess it's the thought that counts, But you should know Cujo trashed the place after you left. It wasn't pretty. I didn't realize it was Cujo so I dropped him off at your Unka Pappy's Petting Zoo.

PP: Oh yes, Unka Pappy was tickled pink about that. Cujo Kitty caught lots of mice and something squiggly he'd never seen before. So now Cujo Kitty has a new home guarding the zoo at night. So, what about your presents? Didn't you just love them? I filled them with pics of Unka Pappy so you'll always have something to remember him where ever you go!

STB: Well, um. I um, that was very thoughtful of you. So I, um, shared them, with all the Troopers on my last mission. Yes, that's what I did.

PP: Oh, that's so sweet! Now everyone will have a memento to keep them company when they go to galaxies far, far away.

STB: Suddenly, somehow, those far away galaxies don't sound so bad.

And I know You love cake, so this is for You! :) Happy birthday Merly *Sunflower*!! Wishing you all the best, enjoy your special day. xoxo

Stormtroopers have a difficult life. from unending, exhausting training to hone their skills, to off world patrols, excursions and dangerous missions full of peril. And then there's the Emperor.

As Stormtrooper Bruce sits in his quarters enjoying his burger, he is suddenly aware just how much his friends mean to him. They have always been there for him, helping him get through the hard times and making the good times even better. Showing up for Movie Night when they could spend their weekends anywhere. Knowing when they step out the door some or possibly all of them may never return.

In spite of all their flaws, quirks and sometimes brutal honesty he loves these guys. It's friends like these who make it all worth while. That, and some burgers and brewskies on movie night.

ABC's and 123's C is for Chocolate and Cake! *I wish I had some of each of these treats right now, but this was in 2019. I have not been eating sweets or anything with sugar. We'll see how long my will-power lasts!

The first weekend of my summer started with a bang! :)

Saturday was spent with two of my girl friends watching a musical play called South

Pacific at Ahmanson Theater. Afterwards, we went out to dinner. We had a great time

as always! Sunday, picnic at Balboa park with flickr friends. It was a gorgeous day to

be out. A wonderful weekend I had! And summer is just starting…

Cheers to summer fun and to girls day / night out! :)

Top with remaining cake layer, cut side down; frost with remaining frosting.

A piece of cake.

I baked a homemade German chocolate cake for my hubby's birthday today.

Back when the guys gave Stormtrooper Bruce a guitar, and formal lessons, they hoped the gesture would pay off. And just maybe it has. STB has actually found time to practice and is improving so much he wants to show off.

STB: OK guys, this is exactly what it looks like.

TK-1110: You're serenading us before the pizzas arrive so we'll lose our appetites because tonight is anchovy night?

TK-432: You're going to play a song that’ll short out our armor circuitry, but just as a test, because if it works you'll use it on Fett as pay back for the next prank he plays on you?

STB: Hey, what a great idea! I’ll have to work on that. But tonight’s concert is just a quick song to show your hard spent credits haven’t gone to waste.

TK-1110: So no exploding heads, bleeding ears or blown circuits?

STB: Not unless you want that.

TK-432: We don’t want anchovies either. Just saying.

STB: No worries. I’ve been practicing. Just hear me out and prepare to be wowed!

TK-1110: After all these years, I’ve learned to be prepared for anything when you are involved.

TK-432: Glad I'm already sitting down.

The name pretty much says it all. My Dad's favorite kind of cake has always been German chocolate, so I followed this recipe on Father's Day and the end result was amazing. I'm almost drooling just looking at this picture, even though I've certainly done enough baking in the past couple of weeks to satisfy my sweet tooth.

Devils food cake filled with german chocolate cake filling and frosted with fudge frosting

This cake gets its chocolate flavor from actual chocolate instead of cocoa powder. It was named after American Samuel German, who developed the dark chocolate used for baking. A distinctive feature of this cake is the frosting of coconut and crushed pecans.

In keeping with the American way, I followed Kraft's recipe to a tee and even used Baker's German chocolate bar. The only deviation is icing chocolate Italian buttercream on the sides, to keep the cake moist.

For those keeping track, June 11th is National German Chocolate Cake Day. This is my two-bite brownie edition with a salted coconut pecan dulce de leech topping and whipped chocolate frosting garnished with a candied pecan.

Why, yes, Schmidt's Sausage Haus in the German Village neighborhood of Columbus has German chocolate cake. It's good, too.

this was my first time making and even ever tasting a german chocolate cake......Oh my goodness! where has this cake been all my life!

I especially love how smooth the chocolate on top is, its so pretty.
