[6348-D7500-Neo]
Thomasboro, Screven County, Georgia USA
On our ride yesterday, a civilized 116km, we took a break in Vernonville at the the general store. Unfortunately it was closed, permanently. Still made for a nice shot of Paul, and Ingrid, two super nice people and great riders.

As he walked deeper into the forest, General Rogers couldn't help but feel overwhelmed.
He served in Afghanistan a few years ago. During his tour of duty, he learned to live with danger. He walked that fine line between life and death dozens of times.
But this was different. This... feeling. As if a superior being was watching him. Something beyond his understanding.
Whispers swirled through the small towns near the Woods, stories of strange beings that roamed the forest, casting an eerie spell over it. Mainly because of the glowing lights that danced on the trees at night. For this reason, no one would ever dare enter.
Every fiber of his being screamed for him to turn back, to listen to his survival instincts. But he couldn't. His daughter, Lauren, had been missing for several days and this was the one place no one had dared to search.
There was no turning back. Even if that meant losing his life, all he could do is moving forward.

This is still the epicentre of town life in Derby, northern Tasmania. The general store is just that, providing a range of services, including the post office and a banking agency. Even here one of the young cyclists takes a rest.
The really interesting feature in this photograph is the original 3-D Peters ice cream sign complete with cone. I haven't seen one of those in many years.
This rather attractive pond is named after General James Oglethorpe. James Edward Oglethorpe (22 December 1696 – 30 June 1785) was a British general, Member of Parliament, and philanthropist, as well as the founder of the colony of Georgia. As a social reformer, he hoped to resettle Britain's worthy poor in the New World, initially focusing on those in debtors' prisons.
Mogollon, New Mexico
Mogollon is an old mining town, now listed as a ghost town. It sits in a remote location at about 6500' elevation and has some restored buildings and tourism. It also is home to a few year round residents.
During a U.S. Civil War reenactment that I attended this fall, this white-haired gentleman was playing the role of Ulysses S. Grant, the commanding general of the Union forces who later became the 18th president of the United States. This was despite the fact that he looks little like the photos that I've seen of Grant taken during the war years. The fellow officer with the dark beard that he is talking with here actually looked more like Grant, IMO.
Nonetheless, the Grant reenactor cut a very imposing figure and played the role well, spending time in the padded armchair under the awning of a larger and more luxurious tent than those used by the reenactors portraying Union troops.

Union Pacific's Provo-based YPV51 switch job makes a set out on the General Refractories brick plant spur at Cutler in Lehi, Utah the afternoon of Dec. 29, 1987.
The factory was built by the federal government during WWII when the need for steel became critical in the production of armaments for defense. The fire brick made by the factory was essential in the production of steel made by nearby Geneva Steel as part of the nation-wide defense effort in 1942.
Winfield Scott (June 13, 1786 – May 29, 1866) was an American military commander and political candidate. He served as a general in the United States Army from 1814 to 1861, taking part in the War of 1812, the Mexican–American War, the early stages of the American Civil War and conflicts with Native Americans. Scott was the Whig Party's presidential nominee in the 1852 election, but was defeated by Democrat Franklin Pierce. He was known as Old Fuss and Feathers for his insistence on proper military etiquette, as well as the Grand Old Man of the Army for his many years of service.
The oddly liveried 60-1156 of the national Romanian operator CFR Călători was on its way with the international regional train R 6813 from Satu Mare to Valea lui Mihai / Debrecen, as our group photographed it upon departure from the weirdly named station General Gheorghe Avramescu.
The tiny station is located in Ghilvaci, a village near Satu Mare in North-Western Romania. It is directly named after a Romanian general, who fought during WW1 and WW2 (in the latter case - on both sides of the war). It remains a mystery to me, why the station was named that way, as the general has seemingly no conntection to the region.
