Singapore's opposition party having their first rally since the General Election commenced on 1st September

Soundtrack: Jezebel Jive (Keep Shelly in Athens Remix) - Maribel

I had no intention of shooting this yesterday, but since I was already in Westminster to shoot the London Eye, frankly it seemed rude not to. Bit of a cliché, but it's popular for good reason; I take this icon for granted but the hordes of tourists reminded me - it's special.

Single frame, very little editing.

I figured it wasn't often I'd have the chance to photograph The Palace of Westminster covered in snow, so despite uninspiring light I made the most of my opportunity. These buildings of Parliament are famous not only for their role in British government, but probably partly because they appear so grand and dominate the view in this area of London. For this reason Big Ben inside the Clock Tower is one of the world's most recognizable structures.

This is a 2.5 minute exposure using the 10-stop ND filter. Some shift used, no tilt.

Shot of a crowd at the election rally

I had to go out one last time. What better place to go than the first place I originally shot whilst on holiday, in December 2010 after the snow trapped us in London for a week whilst the airports were shut due to flurries. I photographed these Houses of Parliament in that instance as a tourist, years later as a resident during the Scottish referendum that I followed into the wee hours, and even now as I transition away from this city back to Edinburgh - home. I'll always treasure this place as something special.

Four minute exposure, watching the clouds roll in and the sun depart across the horizon. Minimal processing.

London Elektricity - Syncopated City This photo has become more popular than I expected. So here's an appropriate soundtrack.

When the distance between the door of your budget hotel and the iconic Houses of Parliament is only 200 metres, it's hard to stay away. The human traffic on the Westminster Bridge can be difficult to shoot around, but the constant bus traffic begged for a semi-long exposure with light trails. How could I refuse?

Countdown to polling day: 8 days

I remember vividly as a third year undergraduate undergoing internship in 2011, most of us interns would gather during our breaks, "discussing" about our respective bosses and HR (oops!). That was also the time where a certain hammer party came into prominence and inadvertently became our topic over meals. Looking at the sheer numbers that attended their rallies then, one cannot help but admit that the country's political landscape is changing. White is no longer the default colour as Singaporeans grew increasingly frustrated with their lives and circumstances.

Fast forward to 2015, we've had a few significant events in Singapore. The first being the passing of our former Prime Minister Mr LKY and the outpouring of tributes that followed. While Singaporeans are known to be able to complain about anything under the sun, the lying in state showed me that Singaporeans are not just a bunch of whiners, and is able to display what it means to be Singaporeans when called upon. Of course, who can miss mentioning SG50? Where we celebrated the jubilee of our miracle island home while accepting one another for who we are, regardless of race, language and religion. Now, ‪#‎GE2015‬.

11 September 2015 will be the second time I exercise my civic responsibility as a Singaporean. It is special, because it will be my first time voting as a working adult and issues like immigration, CPF, housing, transport etc means more to me. Let me make a disclaimer first: I am not here to sway votes to any political party, but to urge you to do your part as a citizen responsibly. Taking a leaf out of Dr CSJ’s book: do not vote just because you are AGAINST any particular party or person, vote FOR a candidate whom you think is worthy of a place in parliament and a say in your and your childrens' future.

I strongly believe that 2015 is a year for us to (re)discover the Singapore identity and stand united despite our inherent differences. So go and find that friend who disagreed with you, belanja him/her some kopi or beer and make peace because at the end of the day, there are just some things that you have to agree to disagree. There is however no doubt that we are still intrinsically Singaporeans.

PS: I thought this image reminds me of my secondary school SS textbook, therefore the title. Enjoy your cooling-off day and extended weekend, it has been a fiery week!

Todays challenge makes one of our potential political leaders a little nervous after BaconSandwichGate - for those that don't know Ed Milliband, Labour party leader failed to look 'normal' when trying to be one of the people and eat a bacon sandwich

In a similar faux pax, Conservative party leader, David Cameron was photographed eating a hotdog with some cutlery yesterday - oh dear.

Croissants with cutlery or Bacon Sandwich eating - it looks like Cameron just has the edge in this Challenge!

Scottish Saltire blue-hour here over Westminster Houses of Parliament, which would have been to blame for losing the union this past Thursday night and early Friday morning, had the vote not gone against the "Yes" referendum of an independent Scotland. English MP's have many promises to keep.

I stayed awake glued to the telly into the wee hours. I knew then it would be most appropriate to visit this place whatever the result. This composition is a square 1x1 @ 48mm mainly because I couldn't decide on a narrower crop. A few frames stitched together and cropped for composition.

Back in August of 2012, GE released their Tier 4 emissions locomotive. It will spend some time in Pueblo, CO being tested before going out on the road for some real world tests. I'm not sure what it's even called, but the production version will probably look slightly different anyway. It's like an ES44AC with the upper vents of an AC6000.

Before I started this build, I had a fairly big bag of ever-awesome lime bricks and I thought I should have plenty to build this; no problem. Well, like some famous Lego builder once said, "It's not about how many pieces you have, it's about how many of the same piece you have." So after WAY too many BL orders it's finally done. The vent colors may need to be tweaked here and there, but overall I'm pretty happy with the way this one came out.

Before I get another question, I must first say that it is a coincidence as I was at SUTD completing some images I wanted to do and I sort of underestimated the time I needed at SUTD. Coming here was just a 10 minutes ride.

I witnessed an overzealous photographer kicking another photographer's tripod by accident and thereby ruining his evening as he was taking time-lapse (as i was told). It is very easy to say aiya just an accident only mah, but one could be much more careful and aware of surrounding. This is going out to all photographers, no matter hobbyist, professionals or journalists. Please be mindful of your surroundings, just like we would like members of public to be mindful of our own setup and bag(s).

The battle for East Coast GRC.

According to early predictions, the lightning seems to be winning the battle against the hammer. And that result should remain the same as the sample counts have all been on point so far.

(This will probably be my last elections-related Lego post for the series, so I'll add some final words here. And because most of you may not understand the political system in my country, I thought I would share some info too.

Singapore has been ruled by one party since independence 50 years ago. It was only in 2011 when the Opposition won the biggest number of parliamentary seats in our country's history - seven out of 83. That was considered a watershed elections by leaders and analysts.

Fast forward to this year, and it was hoped that the Opposition could gain a stronger foothold in Parliament to keep the government in check on its decision-making and policies that they intend to roll out. Support on social media had been greater than before, as early analysis had shown. The results are slowly rolling in, but at the current time of 12.30am Singapore time, the Opposition has already lost one out of the seven seats it previously held, and doesn't look like it would win the East Coast GRC, which had been a close fight in the previous elections. This is both worrying and disappointing for me, as the mandate only gives the ruling party the confidence and arrogance to implement policies which it feels are in its best interests, but not necessarily the country's.

I hope by the time you read this post, the six remaining Opposition seats would not have dropped further, as it would mean a total defeat for both the Opposition and the future of our country.

Politics out, let's bring in the fun again for the 365 project!

P.S Ruling party's symbol is a lightning bolt, main Opposition party's symbol is a hammer, hence the above satire.)

The time has come! President Tony Tan, on the advice of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, dissolved Singapore's 12th parliament today. Singaporeans will go to the polls on Sept 11 to elect 89 Members of Parliament in 29 constituencies.

PM Lee said on his Facebook page: "I called this general election to seek your mandate to take Singapore beyond SG50, into its next half century. You will be deciding who will govern Singapore for the next 5 years. More than that, you will be choosing the team to work with you for the next 15-20 years, and setting the direction for Singapore for the next 50 years."

It is widely expected that the Opposition, comprising nine parties, will contest all 89 seats against the incumbent People's Action Party - the first time this has happened since 1963.

In early July of 2012, someone from GE contacted me about building a Lego locomotive for the head of their design team. They couldn't show me pictures of the actual loco they wanted me to build, so they had me build an ES44DC in demonstrator colors. (I'll post the render soon.) They wanted it done by mid-August and they wanted instructions because they wanted to build it themselves. I managed to pull it off in time and the GE team almost pulled it off in time for the 2015 locomotive release. This is my tribute to the GE Team in Erie. Thanks guys!
