Der goldene Herbst wie er im Buche steht und womit die Graubündner Hotels jedes Jahr aufs neue werben, um die Gäste zu locken. Auch bekannt als "indian Summer" - goldene Lärchen und blauer Himmel mehrere Wochen am Stück während im Flachland der Nebel hängt. Unbeeindruckt dessen zieht die Ge 6/6 II 704 einen Schnellzug von Chur nach St. Moritz und ist hier an der Einfahrt Preda zu sehen. Hier wird heute die neue Albula Tunnelröhre gebaut. Hinter dem Zug prangt der 3338 Meter hohe Piz Ela (links) und der 2736 Meter hohe Piz Rugnux (rechts).
Dass dieses Foto vor sieben Jahren aufgenommen wurde mag man kaum meinen...
Power off an inbound NESE (Portland, ME - Selkirk, NY) runs light to the service tracks adjacent to the Selkirk locomotive shop. It appears that NESE was led by an 8-unit set of C30-7As on this day. The shop tracks are occupied predominately by B23-7s, making for a very typical, very GE late 90s Selkirk scene.

Foxiang Ge (Tower of Buddhist Incense) at Wanshou Shan (Longevity Hill), Beijing, China forms part of the beautiful Summer Palace Gardens. The tower was originally meant to be a nine-story Buddhist pagoda built to resemble the Yellow Crane Tower.
The Qianlong Emperor ordered the construction to be stopped just after the eighth story was built. The tower was built on a 20 m (66 ft) tall stone base, measures three stories and 41 metres (135 ft) in height, and is supported by eight ironwood pillars. A pile of GEs work the loop track at Shoreham and pull ahead after making their pickup. I was looking to get them going across the Mississippi, however, the pickup move simply took too much time. In any case, I got a fun view I had not tried yet.
CSX Chicago (Barr Yard) to Grand Rapids train M326 heads east with 74 cars under the Pere Marquette coaling tower. Power is GE ES40DC 5368 and AC4400CW 409.

Bis auf den neuen Steuerwagen am Zugschluss brachte diese Garnitur für ein paar Wochen nochmal den "alten Flair" an den Albula. Bei Tiefencastel war die Ge 4/4 II 621 auf dem Weg nach St. Moritz zu sehen.
FGLK's Sunday Sweep Train returning from Solvay to Geneva was always an easy catch, as it climbed up the hill past the historic Martisco station, and was a frequent and rewarding subject. On this summer 2012 day, B23-7 No. 2309 leads the ascent up the Alps, assisted by a GP-9.

Like all "corvids" (bird relatives of the crow), the Blue Jay is a "smart" bird. He knows how to be opportunistic and tyrannical towards smaller species.

Branford Steam railroad BSR3 with GE 85 tonner 7359 works the Tilcon quarry in North Branford, here they are filling up hoppers for Posillico on Long Island, Ny. BSR2 would bring these hoppers 6 miles south to the P&W interchange yard at Pine Orchard for Providence & Worcester to take to New York.
GE products are seen from above on Dayton's Bluff in Saint Paul, Minnesota. The Empire Builder is departing the Twin Cities while a BNSF freight heads up the BNSF St. Paul Subdivision making a run for Northtown Yard.

Die mittlerweile längst verschrottete erstgebaute Lok der Baureihe Ge 4/4 I war im Herbst 2008 mit dem Pendel Davos-Filisur unterwegs und konnte am 5.11.2008 am Landwasser bei Davos Glaris fotografiert werden.
Pan Am Railways train RJED (Rotterdam Jct, NY - East Deerfield, MA) has a pair of ex CSX GE C40-8Ws for power as it knocks down the MP 430 searchlight signals at the east dog track road grade crossing in Pownal, VT. The plan for the day was to head out early and check Eagle Bridge for loads for the Battenkill, however, on the way east we saw the approach signal at Johnsonville lit for a eastbound. We made our way to Eagle Bridge and setup for the eastbound shot in town, thinking the train would be a 16R. After a 20 or so minute wait, we were surprised to see the yellow nose of a CSX YN3b widecab coming over the hill calling "RJED", and the chase east was on...
