.

When I do something, I always try to get it as perfect as possible. So, street photography is new to me, so I first have to face the photographic challenges, light, contrast, perspective, composition. It's all different from landscape photography.

But what's added to that in the EU and especially in Germany are the legal bases for this type of photography. GDPR, right to one's own image, freedom of panorama, art copyright law, taking photos for private purposes vs. for publication, and if published then generally or only for a specific audience, my head is already spinning...

The decisive factor is that a person must not be recognizable to the general public, including friends and acquaintances (relatives actually don't count here). So, now I've done something that I would never do otherwise: I've replaced the lady's entire face, the facial expression is quite similar to the original, but it's somehow a different person. Yes, and since she is not recognizable due to her clothing (it is definitely normal clothing, not homemade one-offs or expensive designer items), I assume this picture is OK. Or do we have a lawyer among us who sees things a little differently? I'm happy to be proven wrong 😊.

First Order Delivery Express is the best delivery company out there...even in the Unknown Regions.

Palpatine gets all his stuff delivered to Exegol, because there is GDPR working and nobody will know his name. As he likes to say: Long have I waited...for the courier.

During a photo walk through Cologne during Fujikina, the group, led by Thomas B. Jones, set out to explore street photography in an urban context. While the workshop concentrated on observing people, situations, and city structures, my personal take was to experiment with motion blur and intentional camera movement. The resulting images capture movement and atmosphere rather than sharp detail, extending the idea of street documentation into a more abstract interpretation. As part of Zeitgeschichte, these photographs are created in the context of a public event and conform to GDPR (DSGVO) and the German Kunsturhebergesetz.

All the recent talk of data breaches, the Facebook/Cambridge Analytica scandel and GDPR legislation have lead to lots of thoughts about how much data we have out there and who has access to it. So I thought I'd create a photographic representation of this.

Nottingham City Transport is celebrating having won five of the top gongs at the 2019 UK Bus Awards in London including the highly contested ‘best in show’ category, UK Bus Operator of the Year, which NCT has now won for a record breaking five times! Jatinder Kumar took the Top National Bus Driver title sponsored by Volvo Bus. This is the second year in a row a bus driver from the Nottingham bus company has won the coveted award, following Aaron Johnson’s win last year. HR Admin Manager, Sheila Swift won the Unsung Hero accolade sponsored by Backhouse Jones, recognising her 37 years of dedicated service at the company and NCT’s Managing Director Mark Fowles was presented with the Services to the Bus Industry honour sponsored by Buses Magazine.

No one could knock NCT off the top spot either, as Nottingham City Transport took the gold once again in the Top City Operator category, sponsored by INIT Innovations, which saw them through to the grand final where they went on to win the UK Bus Operator of the Year, sponsored by Gallagher & QBE Insurance.

Jatinder is described by Nottingham City Transport as ‘one of the most compassionate and caring people you could ever meet.’ Jatinder grew up in a rural Indian village, he moved to the UK so he could pay for his sisters' education, and putting other people first comes second nature to him. A recent mystery traveller assessment read: "He is a perfectionist, doing his job to the maximum with no fuss and a pleasure to travel with. A fantastic asset to the company."

Unsung Hero winner Sheila's love, commitment and dedication to NCT over nearly 4 decades is unquestionable. Joining City of Nottingham Transport in 1981 as a short-hand typist, Sheila has progressed to be Nottingham City Transport’s HR Admin Manager, where she has responsibility for recruitment, making sure NCT's rules, policies and procedures are followed, delivering many HR projects and GDPR compliance.

Mark Yexley, Chairman of the UK Bus Awards, said: “A massive congratulations to Nottingham City Transport! To win five awards, including Top National Driver and Bus Operator of the Year, is an outstanding achievement. The judges were really impressed with the investment the business is making in its fleet and infrastructure too. The company has seen fleet emissions fall by 90% and 8000 tonnes of CO2 and 70 tonnes of NOX emissions were avoided in the last 12 months. They also commended the company’s substantial investment in gas buses and its achievement in encouraging and attracting more young people on to its services. Jatinder’s dedication shone through, and Sheila’s outstanding contribution over the past 37 years to the business has been remarkable, just as Mark Fowles commitment has to the industry where he has become synonymous with high standards, innovation and a clear intent to put customers at the heart of everything it does.

The whole city should be immensely proud of the company and its employees!”

Nottingham City Transport’s Jake Moore was also a finalist in the Engineer of the Year category.

Anthony Carver-Smith, NCT Marketing Manager commented, “Wow! 2019 has been the best year yet for Nottingham City Transport at the UK Bus Awards and we are over the moon to have been crowned UK Bus Operator of the Year for a record breaking fifth time! A massive thank you to everyone throughout NCT who work so tirelessly to deliver the best bus service in the country! It is without a doubt the people within NCT that make it so successful, as demonstrated by Sheila, Jatinder and Mark winning awards today”.

603 has now been unveiled in it's new allover wrap dedicated to the awards won this year, pictured pulling into the Milton Street terminus in Nottingham with a 28 to Bilborough via Canning Circus, Radford and Beechdale.

At the age of eight I've photographed my teddy bear with my Agfa Box (started my career with a 9x6 medium format camera ;-) ). My very first photo. Yesterday I printed the photo with my new enlarger. The first printing since ca. 40 years. My teddy bear is my buddy over so many years. My frist model indeed and you find it on many photos together with my other models. I'm planning a book about this theme! ;-)

Although he is naked, I need no FSK, no Diesel, no GDPR ;-)

Not a very good photo but shared for its possible interest value.

A Class 166 diesel multiple unit passes South Liberty sidings in Bristol with 2M38, the 12:11 Weston-super-Mare to Bristol Temple Meads service on Sunday 11th April 2021. Meanwhile, Class 66 locomotive No. 66518 waits while its train is loaded with aggregates. My guess (and I emphasise guess) would be that this consist eventually departed the following day as the 03:22 Bristol Freightliner Terminal to Banbury Reservoir Tarmac working. This depot formerly handled container operations but from earlier this year (2021) seems to have switched entirely to aggregates traffic. Please see this article for further information: GB Railfreight and UK Aggregate Industries.

The map is the result of an analysis of the General Data Protection Regulation in its agreed version (www.emeeting.europarl.europa.eu/committees/download.do?do...). It shows those areas in which Member States are given room for manoeuvre. As we can see, there are a lot of opening clauses that give Member State flexibility in applying the new EU data protection law. If all or most Member States are going to enact laws based on all or most of these opening clauses, than the reform might miss the original target of harmonizing the EU data protection law.

Location: Berlin - 1043km from home.

My PC died and I had to get a new one, finally I can upload again. Before I'm going to talk about this spot I'd like to have some input of my fellow EU-plate spotters as the new data law - GDPR - is coming into effect on Friday. I would love to hear about how you're going to continue, given that there are many "dreadful fines" and even more insecurity, thanks :)!

I have to admit, I'm a huge fan of the Final Edition. The car looks amazing, especially in full specification like here. Carbon hood and carbon spoiler, what an amazing car. It's so nice on white, too. Interestingly, I've spotted this plate before on a 996 Turbo that now features different plates. This is my first and only example of a transferred English plate. It's very apparent that the owner doesn't really live in the UK. His cars can also be found at Classic Remise sometimes. He might also own a 911R, but there are several non-British British cars at Classic Remise.

General Data Protection Regulation

After another terroristic attack on migrant structures in Berlin, about four thousands people took to the streets, demanding justice and protection.

For years nazis have been insecuring this area of Berlin and, as was recently known, spending time with the same police officers, that where supposed to observe them.

Cars and buildings were torched, risking innocent lives.

The produce section of a grocery store, with Kroger's signage. It is animated. The image fades to a version in which all the hand-lettered price signs are replaced with code waterfalls as seen in the credit-sequences of the Wachowskis' 'Matrix' movies. The image fades again and the huge, menacing eye of HAL9000 from Kubrick's '2001: A Space Odyssey' appears in the center aisle, and all the prices have doubled. The image fades again and the doubled prices are replaced with the code waterfall again. The image then loops.

Policymakers around the world are grappling with how to manage the effects of current and future digital technologies on society, particularly in the areas of privacy, free expression, and other fundamental freedoms. The experience to date with the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) has generated questions on how greater transparency and notice to internet users can effectively protect privacy. Meanwhile, U.S. regulators and Congress are actively considering similar steps to strengthen data protection and penalize social media companies for transgressing consumers’ rights. Hosted by the Foreign Policy program at Brookings, the sixth annual Justice Stephen Breyer Lecture on International Law examined these issues at the intersection of comparative law, technology, ethics, and human rights. Jeroen van den Hoven, professor of ethics and technology at Delft University of Technology in The Netherlands, gave keynote remarks. He was then be joined for a panel discussion by Cameron Kerry, former general counsel at the U.S. Department of Commerce and distinguished fellow at Brookings, and Bilyana Petkova, assistant professor of international and European law at Maastricht University and fellow-in-residence at the Electronic Privacy Information Center. Nicol Turner Lee, fellow in the Brookings Center for Technology Innovation, moderated the discussion. After the program, the speakers answered questions from the audience.

Before I go, I leave you with this thought,

I had this nice shot of some voluntary workers doing a great job restoring a local artwork. I don't do many people shots and with the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) legislation I don't know what one can show and not show regarding faces so I decided to do my own take on this GDPR stuff.

When one looks back on the great photo-journalism that has been so influential in changing public opinion such as Nik Ut's Vietnam war photograph "Napalm Girl" I wonder what impact the new legislation will have on such.

In current political discussions about the General Data Protection Regulation many GDPR advocates claim that burdens for individuals and SMEs would not be too heavy because of two reasons:

- Many obligations would not apply because they were risk-based. Controllers would have to fulfill these obligations only if their processing of personal data would result in a certain degree of risk.

- Many obligations would not apply because of the principle of proportionality. Controllers would not have to fulfill these obligations if the fulfillment would involve a disproportionate effort.

On the other hand, the risk-based approach is hardly considered, if not ignored, by supervisory authorities (especially the German ones).

The above graph shows all 68 controllers' obligations. Obligations that may be scalable or inapplicable because of a lack of risk or because they are disproportionate are shown in green. In most cases, only the technical and organisational measures to be taken in order to fulfill the obligations are scalable. This, however, could have repercussions on the obligation itself.

See for yourself if risk and proportionality are reducing controllers' burdens in a noteworthy way.

From May 25, 2018, the GDPR of the EU will apply. Then photographing persons with a digital camera is a data collection and data storage of personal data and it applies the GDPR. Even before the photo-taking, the consent of all depicted persons is necessary.

Opening Clauses in the General Data Protection Regulation

The map reveals those areas in which EU Member States are given room for manoeuvre. As we can see, numerous opening clauses give Member States flexibility in applying the new EU data protection law. Resulting from this, one could say that the GDPR is not really a Regulation but has a hybrid character with elements of a Regulation but also elements of a Directive ("Diregulation"). If all or most Member States are going to enact laws based on all or most of these opening clauses, the reform might miss its original target of harmonizing the EU data protection law. An extensive study on the opening clauses (in German) by Martini/Kühling can be found here: www.foev-speyer.de/files/de/downloads/Kuehling_Martini_et...
