This shot was taken in Gatlinburg, TN. We were lucky enough to be there during an unusual fall snow storm. It made for some beautiful shots, combining snow and fall foliage. Fall in my opinion is a quick wink from God, reminding us of change, and beauty!

My favorite place in Gatlinburg TN, to go for a picnic, have enjoyed this place many times with my family!! Many great memories. God's creation is enough evidence for me to acknowledge that there is a Creator-God. He loves you, and sent His Son to save you!! God Bless, and have a wonderful week!!

On October 25, 2010 my bride and I were married in this famous & quaint Chapel located in Gatlinburg, TN.

This white, log-built structure with a green tin roof and waterfall around back had actually hosted more than 20,000 weddings since 1994.

Six years later, we traveled back to there for the colorful Autumn display that the area is famously known for.

While there that week, wildfires were reported burning around the Gatlinburg area, and on a few occasions, we could actually smell the smoke.

We decided to drive by to take this photo for keepsake, as we didn’t really photograph our wedding place back in 2010.

22 days after this photo was taken, much of Gatlinburg and Sevier County burned the night of Nov. 28th, 2016

Sadly, this famous little Chapel was completely destroyed.

There was talk of rebuilding......but still not sure if it has happened.

One never knows when tragedy may strike........

In crazy times like these......it's so important to stay focused on what's most important in our lives ...... God and Family.

Have a very Blessed Sunday everyone and here's wishing you all good health and much safety.

Standing on the bridge across the Cliff Branch River and looking north in the Fall...this is the view! Pretty magnificent, right?!? (Even includes a outdoorsman enjoying a little hike and/or fishing right in the middle of the photograph!)

Watching the sun set at 6,643 feet above sea level is an amazing experience...seeing the beauty of God's creation and watching nature in action as He intended from the highest mountain in the Smoky Mountains, the highest point in the state of Tennessee, and the highest point along the Appalachian Trail is a sight that I will never forget! Magnificently perfect!!

Just look up anywhere in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park (GSMNP) this time of year and there is more color than your eyes can process. It is still that way when you get home and try to do anything with photographs that you've taken...I just try to reproduce what my memory was able to process when I was there in person. I hope you enjoy...

Taken in Gatlinburg TN, this is a part of this magnificent waterfall, it continues down and over to the right!

Just as the light of the sun starts to show over the peaks of the Smoky Mountain along the Tennessee & North Carolina border...the sky begins to lighten, the blue 'smoke' across the valleys comes into focus, and the moon still hangs out for a few minutes while the orange glow rises into the blue. An awe inspiring view of God's perfect creation!!

Bear Just Out of Hibernation on Cade's Cove Loop in the Great Smoky Mountains near Gatlinburg, Tennessee.

On the day I took this, there was a lady getting really close to the fence to take pictures of this bear when instead she should have been standing back and using her zoom lens. When the bear lunged toward the fence, she backed up real quick, and I was glad I was a good distance back already. Of course, a better zoom lens would make that less tempting, but that's no reason to tempt (or poke) the bear. :-)

I used this image for a post to my blog titled "No Fear (of Failure). You can read it at crystalwrites.wordpress.com/2014/07/22/no-fear-of-failure

This was taken a little over a month ago between Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, Tn.

Nature photographs can take many forms. These clouds and mountains were a refreshing scene for me.

This photo was taken from the property of the Westgate complex up on top of the mountains near the alternate access road called Dudley Creek in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. The photo is directed towards the Great Smoky Mountains National Park (GSMNP).

Laurel Falls is an extremely popular destination within Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The hike to the falls and back is 2.3 miles and hikers will climb roughly 314 feet in elevation before arriving at the photogenic 80-foot waterfall.

The waterfall consists of an upper and a lower section (seen in this photo), divided by a walkway which crosses the stream (Laurel Branch) at the base of the upper falls. The falls receives its name from the mountain laurel that blooms along the trail and near the falls in May.

This photo was taken inside the city-limits of Gatlinburg, TN. This big "boy" Black Bear (Ursus americanus) was seen along the Little Pigeon River that runs thru the city. Gatlinburg is itself essentially wrapped inside areas of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park (GSMNP).

This bear does not seem to have missed out on too many meals. This is the first time we have seen bears in the city proper. We have been visiting the park for probably the last 40 years off and on. Locals have now told us they were having some problems with them. Ultimately, the bears will become an issue that has to be addressed, especially if they are fed human foods.

Tennessee's Best Shirts and Airbrush Art - Gatlinburg, TN

The Sinks area of the Smoky Mountains National Park is one of the most picturesque spots along the Little River Road scenic drive. This area, which is 12 miles west of the Sugarlands Visitor Center, offers visitors the chance to see Mother Nature at her finest!

The Sinks formed where a beautiful mountain river makes an S-turn creating natural pools that are outlined on both sides by humongous river boulders. The crystal clear water, natural pools, and waterfall make this an excellent spot to get out of the car and stretch your legs.

In southern Appalachian vernacular, a gap is a low point in a mountain ridge. New Englanders call such places “notches” while westerners refer to them as mountain “passes.” At an elevation of 5,046 feet, Newfound Gap is the lowest drivable pass through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

This photograph was taken at the 'overlook' at Newfound Gap looking directly east as the sun rises over the Great Smoky Mountains. As I've stated before...if you haven't experienced this, put it on your bucket list!!

I took this photo a couple months ago along the Roaring Fork Motor Trail in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

"How glorious a greeting the sun gives the mountains! To behold this alone is worth the pains of any excursion a thousand times over.”

~ John Muir

Born April 21, 1838, John Muir has become America's most famous naturalist and conservationist. He shared his love of the outdoors through writing and inspired people to protect our country's wild places, earning him the nickname the Father of the National Parks.

Standing on the bank of the Little River within the Great Smoky Mountains National Park during the most colorful time of the year is a beautiful scene to take in...no chance at all that this is not a perfect example of God's amazing creation and His complete control over it all!

As he was drawing near—already on the way down the Mount of Olives—the whole multitude of his disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen, saying, “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” And some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples.” He answered, “I tell you, if these were silent, the very stones would cry out.”

~Luke 19:37-40

Named for the mountain laurel that grows abundantly in this area of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the Laurel Falls trail leads to the 80-foot Laurel Falls waterfall. The Laurel Falls Trail extends 2.6 miles and is the longest of four paved trails in the national park. The elevation gain during the hike is a manageable 314 feet, which is an easy 273 feet per mile.

Originally, the Laurel Falls Trail was built in the 1930s as an access trail for fire crews in the event a blaze broke out in the Cove Mountain area. Thirty years later its popularity as a hiking trail coupled with natural erosion created the need for the trail to be paved. Today, it continues to be a park favorite, rated as a moderate hiking trail. The round-trip from the start of the trailhead to the waterfall and back takes about two hours, or a bit longer if you spend more time taking pictures and enjoying the scenic views.

This photo is of the upper section of the falls near the bridge and, as you can see, includes the magnificent colors of autumn. Three bracketed photos were taken with a handheld Nikon D7200 and combined with Photomatix Pro to create this HDR image. Additional adjustments were made in Photoshop CS6.

Mount LeConte, seen here in the distance, is a mountain in Sevier County, Tennessee located in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. At 6,593 ft, it is the third highest peak in the national park, behind Clingman's Dome (6,643 ft) and Mount Guyot (6,621 ft). It is also the highest peak that is completely within the state of Tennessee. However, from its immediate base to its summit, Mount LeConte is one of the highest peaks in the Eastern Unites States, rising 5,301 ft from its base near Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Mt LeConte is also notable for having the highest inn (the LeConte Lodge) providing lodging for visitors in the Eastern United States.

The city seen in the lower left of the photograph is Gatlinburg, Tennessee, the Gateway to the nearly 502,000 acre Smoky Mountain National Park.
