Drove into Great Smoky Mountains National Park to shoot the Milky Way on the one night showing clear on my apps. Clingmans Dome was so foggy couldn't see 5 feet. I got a few momentary glimpses between clouds at Newfound Gap. Just outside Gatlinburg the skies were clear although not as dark but this didn't come out too bad.
If you're ever in East Tennessee, visiting Gatlinburg (and nearby Pigeon Forge) is just something you have to do. Be prepared for hot summers and relentless crowds, but there's a lot to do and see here on the edge of the Smokies - from rides to restaurants to moonshine tasting.

This photo was taken in Gatlinburg, Tn, back in May. The mountains in the back are known as Mt. Lacante. The reflecting surface was the roof of a car of mine. The roof was green but the sky turned it blueish.

A breathtaking view of Gatlinburg, Tennessee, nestled at the edge of the Great Smoky Mountains. The morning light breaks through dramatic clouds, casting soft rays across the rolling hills and misty ridges. From the Space Needle in the lower left to the iconic Park Vista Hotel perched above town, the scene blends natural beauty with small-town charm. Captured on a summer morning, this image reflects the serene majesty and layered depth of the Smokies—where town and wilderness meet in perfect harmony.
