A gate in the New Forest, Hampshire, surrounded by ferns and other foliage, turning wonderful colours as the season moves in the UK from Summer to Autumn.
Today I decided it was time to do a winter version of my land. It will be called Gates of Memories. This is just a tiny little corner of it and once its finished you are very welcome to visit.

L'ingresso all'Oceano Indiano da Fremantle - Western Australia
Gate to Indian Ocean from Frematle- Western Australia
A trip to Hells Gate Lighthouse situated at the dangerous narrow and shallow entrance to Macquarie Harbour, Tasmania. 'Hells Gate', however, was so-called by the convicts shipped there after British colonisation where some places in Australia were used as harsh penal colonies.
The one here was Sarah island, the notorious Macquarie Harbour Penal Station (1822-1833), housing the so-called 'worst' convicts, those who had reoffended or who had escaped from other settlements. It was separated from the mainland by the wide expanse of river, surrounded by a mountainous wilderness and was hundreds of miles away from the colony's other settled areas. Impossible to escape in any durable way.
Indeed, the only mob of convicts, who actually escaped the penal settlement, when in the dense forest (or bush) ran out of food, and ended up eating each other in desperation of being unable to get very far and in not wanting to return to the jail to get mercilessly flogged. The one surviving convict was eventually caught and hanged. See the film "Van Diemen's Land" (the early name for Tasmania): en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Van_Diemen%27s_Land_

See that white post in the lower left foreground? As I was setting up my tripod for this bridge shot I noticed a dark object fly past and land on that pole. Thought to myself "has to be an owl", it was 10pm. I figured it was a GHOW, but when I put my flashlight on it, it was a Short-eared Owl. I took a few long exposure shots with it illuminated before it flew off to hunt. Pretty crazy to see a SEOW in the Bay Area in June!

The open gate says welcome ....and I would have loved to gone into this beaten-up old house but despite the open gate somehow it looked threatening!
Happy Fence Friday -- and have a great weekend too!
My attempt at the "Macro Mondays" theme "Necklace".
Just had to start one last try with this tiny inconspicuous lens which creates such a wonderful smooth rendering in my eyes..
Why, Agfa? Why wouldn't you build this lens in series? Or if you did, what is it called, and where was it used?
Listening to "Videotape" by Radiohead while shooting this… hence the title:
They never recorded this live version, which is completely different from the studio version. What a pity… while both are great in their own way (and connected through a hidden syncopated rhythm - there‘s a video on that detail…) this one would certainly be worthy of being recorded as well!

When I'm at the pearly gates
This'll be on my videotape, my videotape
Mephistopheles is just beneath
And he's reaching up to grab me
This is one for the good days
And I have it all here
In red, blue, green
Red, blue, green
You are my centre
When I spin away
Out of control on videotape
On videotape
On videotape
On videotape
On videotape
This is my way of saying goodbye
'Cause I can't do it face to face
I'm talking to you before
No matter what happens now
You shouldn't be afraid
Because I know today has been
The most perfect day I've ever seen
(Seems like someone has enjoyed reading "Faust" by Goethe 😅)

The Brandenburg Gate (German: Brandenburger Tor is an 18th-century neoclassical monument in Berlin, built on the orders of Prussian king Frederick William II after restoring the Orangist power by suppressing the Dutch popular unrest. One of the best-known landmarks of Germany, it was built on the site of a former city gate that marked the start of the road from Berlin to the town of Brandenburg an der Havel, which used to be the capital of the Margraviate of Brandenburg.
It is located in the western part of the city centre of Berlin within Mitte, at the junction of Unter den Linden and Ebertstraße, immediately west of the Pariser Platz. One block to the north stands the Reichstag building, which houses the German parliament (Bundestag). The gate is the monumental entry to Unter den Linden, a boulevard of linden trees which led directly to the royal City Palace of the Prussian monarchs.
Throughout its existence, the Brandenburg Gate was often a site for major historical events and is today considered not only as a symbol of the tumultuous histories of Germany and Europe, but also of European unity and peace.
Yes, the gate is not square but fills the gap well. Wooden five bar gates embodies part of the character of the dales
Danby Dale in the North Yorkshire Moor National Park is one of a series of valleys that flow north into the Esk, creating a pattern of valleys and ridges that give the area its distinctive character.
Rather unusually the village of Danby sits a little bit away from the dale. Danby Beck runs into the Esk on the eastern side of Castleton. Danby village is a mile to the east, and on the opposite side of the Esk, while Danby Castle is further east, nearer to Little Fryup Dale than Danby Dale.
Sunset rays glinting on the decorative tops of the vertical bars of an old gate. Spotted in my local suburb.
A gate is a point of entry to a space enclosed by walls, or an opening in a fence. Gates may prevent or control entry or exit, or they may be merely decorative. Other terms for gate include yett and port.
Larger gates can be used for a whole building, such as a castle or fortified town, or the actual doors that block entry through the gatehouse. Today many gate doors are opened by an automated gate operator
