K’gari (Fraser Island) is the largest sand island in the world, containing a diverse range of features that are of exceptional natural beauty. The area has over 250 kilometres of clear sandy beaches with long, uninterrupted sweeps of ocean beach, including more than 40 kilometres of strikingly coloured sand cliffs, as well as spectacular blowouts. Inland from the beach are majestic remnants of tall rainforest growing on tall sand dunes, a phenomenon believed to be unique in the world. Half of the world’s perched freshwater dune lakes occur on the island, producing a spectacular and varied landscape. The world’s largest unconfined aquifer on a sand island has also been found here.

K'gari (Fraser Island) is a heritage-listed island located along the southeastern coast of the state of Queensland, Australia. It is approximately 250 kilometres (160 mi) north of the state capital, Brisbane. Its length is about 120 kilometres (75 mi) and its width is approximately 24 kilometres (15 mi). It was inscribed as a World Heritage Site in 1992. The island is considered to be the largest sand island in the world at 1,840 km2. It is also Queensland's largest island, Australia's sixth largest island and the largest island on the East Coast of Australia.
Fraser Island (selten auch Fraser-Insel, früher Great Sandy Island) ist eine zum australischen Bundesstaat Queensland gehörende Insel. Mit einer Fläche von 1840 Quadratkilometer ist sie die größte Sandinsel der Welt. Sie liegt etwa 190 Kilometer nördlich von Brisbane vor der Ostküste Australiens. In der Sprache der Aborigines heißt sie K’gari, was so viel wie „Paradies“ bedeutet. Die Insel gehört seit 1992 zum UNESCO-Weltnaturerbe.
I recently stayed at Kingfisher Bay on K'Gari in Queensland. While walking at night I found this mysterious arc of light that hummed and glowed like some strange portal to another dimension. I stepped between the arcs and felt an immediate rush of adrenaline as arcs of light and energy entered my body creating a wild weightless sensation. There was a crazy popping sensation where everything went blank in my brain and as my consciousness rebalanced I found I had awoken on the opposite side of the island, nearly 30km away on the high water mark of the Pacific Ocean.

The SS Maheno is a famous, rusting shipwreck located on the eastern beach of K'gari (formerly Fraser Island) in Queensland, Australia. Driven ashore by a cyclone in 1935 while being towed to Japan for scrap, the former luxury liner and WWI hospital ship is now a popular, partially buried tourist landmark near Happy Valley.
Get there by 4WD or plane. The last one to come by boat didn't have a great outcome.

Gari means a Car in Hindi. Every year he comes with a brand new car at Ganagasagar fair, don't ask me about his car license, after all he is a Sadhu..;-)

De Turkse spoorwegen, TCDD met in Japan, Toshiba ontworpen en in Turkije in 1987 bij Tülomsaş met 45 stuks gebouwde BoBoBo lok van 3180 Kw. Hier E43 012 te Haydarpasa Gari op 11 december 2006. De trein zal over Eskişehir naar Ankara gaan. Tegenwoordig is er een deels nieuwe spoorlijn met hoge snelheidstreinen. Nu is dit station vrijwel verlaten en passeren de belangrijke doorgaande hogesnelheid- treinen de nieuwe spoortunnel onder de Bosporus. Het neo klassieke Haydarpaşa station was ooit een gift van de Duitse Keizer Wilhelm II aan de Sultan en diende de Anatolia - Baghdad Mij tussen 1906 en 1908. Het gebouw rust op 1100 houten van 21 meter lengte ieder. In 2010 verwoeste een brand een deel van het dak en op dit moment staat het station leeg en buiten gebruik. Hopelijk blijft het behouden want het is een juweel van een station. Ik reisde er ooit vandaan naar Iran en verder. Een groot restaurant, stations kapper, loketten, bagage afdeling, begripvolle TCDD medewerkers, wat een sfeervol station!

The station lost most of its function since opening of the rail tunnel under the Bosphorus (Boğaziçi). The neo classical Haydarpaşa station was once a gift from the German Emperor Wilhelm II to the Sultan and served the Anatolia - Baghdad company between 1906 and 1908. The building rests on 1100 wooden 21 meters long piles in the soft soil. In 2010, a fire destroyed part of the roof and at this moment the station empty and out of use. Hopefully it continues to survive because it is a gem of a station. I once traveled from there to Iran and beyond. A large restaurant, station barber, ticket offices, baggage handlers, compassionate TCDD employees, what an attractive station!

Sharing evening walks along the beach with these incredible animals is an experience that will stick with me. Being so close to one of Australia's top predators definitely gets the heart going at first, but you're quick to realise as is often the case with animals, the dingo's were not all that interested in our presence. Usually stopping for nothing more than a glance and then on their way.
