Picture taken in May 2002.
Built between 1952 and 1958 on the orders of the Chinese Communist Party, the monument has inscriptions by Mao Tse Tung and Zhou Enlai and commemorates those who died in various struggles against foreign powers and the Nationalists prior to 1949. The Great Hall of the People, another 1950s behemoth built with assistance from the Soviet Union can be seen in the background.
In 1976 hundreds of thousands visited the monument following the death of Zhou Enlai in what became known as the Tiananmen Incident. This was seen as a protest against the Gang of Four, hardline associates of Mao who were plotting to succeed the ailing leader after he died.
A photographer asked his subject to stand next to that wall. There was a quiet buzz that had filtered through the market with news that he had arrived. A crowd had now gathered around."You looking for someone, Ramon?" he was asked by a lady at the back who, held a styrofoam container of Rasta Pasta jerk chicken and was digging in with a plastic fork,
"Ya, tell Pounds Babies I'm here to see him."
Im happy to announce that I will be showing my work with 3 London documentary photographers and Im excited to have my first print made for it

*NOTE: For the squeamish at heart, the following words can be substituted for the bad language in the title, whilst converting this fellow's texting into readable English:
F = Freddie Valenzuela
S = Saltimbocca
A = Attaboy Luther!
6 = umm... well, lets say seven
