► █░▓ TAKEN FROM THE SAME spot like my previous upload, but two days later. The tempest has gone by. Also the elections. Five inches of fresh new powder snow lay everywhere except on the roofs which have shaken it off themselves. The view over high Durmitor and the setting sun are blocked by a massive cloud. Chill of the north wind is forbidding when you're not moving.
A NOTE ON Olympus 12-40mm f/2.8 pro, unstabilized on Panasonic camera: Handheld, unaware that I had accidentally changed the aperture to f/10 (there was no need to stop down above f/5.6). But this excellent lens doesn't seem to suffer that much from diffraction, and I had luck with little camera shake at 1/40 of a sec resulting exposure at 40mm focal length. The lens does exhibit some strange variation of resistance stiffness when zooming in freezing cold, something you don't feel at normal temperatures.

► █░▓ TEMPTED often to photograph two Durmitor passes which mean a lot to me, Struga and Mala Previja basking in the sun. Struga leads into the spectacular realm of Kalica cirque, one of my favorite places on Earth. Kalica cirque ends up in two passes - Mala Previja and Velika Previja, of which the former is slightly higher. Mala Previja takes you to Ledeni do cirque, Velika Previja to Lokvice cirque.
I tried different lenses but ended up here with the 'plastic fantastic' Olympus 40-150mm f/4.0-5.6 (older version), set at its widest aperture 5.6 for its longest throw of 150 mm. Shot handheld with no lens stabilization. Aperture priority overexposed +1 stop at 1/500 sec in Panasonic G90, ISO 200, WB set for sunny weather. Please enlarge! Mind you, this is a €75 second hand lens, over a sensor four times smaller than the full frame.
I gave the raw file a full treatment in Affinity Photo 2.0 to compliment the scenery which is unusually spectacular for a viewpoint that lies within the town itself. The persistent rain in the next ten days after this capture will have melted a lot of this snow. By May 22nd it looks almost like late June had looked in the past. There is no snow left in the town itself (1420 m elevation). The first summer tourists are showing up.

► █░▓ ≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈ LEAVING BEHIND THE summer beach in this less frequented area of otherwise densest populated country of Europe. On my walk along the left shore of the Boven Merwede river (a short stretch of the main Rhein branch). Treading upon Natuurgebied Sleeuwijkerwaard (nature resort). The pathway winds towards the village between the concrete piers that used to form the base of a pontoon bridge, built and scarcely used solely for military exercises. These are leftover from the Cold War era, built in 1956. A stark reminder of the ideology fud and paranoia that didn't start yesterday and lives up to this day.

► █░▓ GEOMETRY & SYMMETRY shaping our lives and our minds. Even our look upon the world. And aesthetics. Like the forms of this landing stage and gangplank set up permanently for the local ferry service. Contrasted by the boats in the background, which boast remarkable symmetry but are round shaped.
In the distance behind, far left on the horizon the leaning tower of the main church in Arkelstad. It is NOT a lens distortion.
Up until July 18th I had the longest break in publishing images and following the fellow uploads on Flickr since years. In the morning of July 14th I drove to Sleeuwijk, the village across the river, after a long time. Had a good hour available to walk around. Started my hike from the neighbourhood edge next to A27, a few kilometres away and searched for the pathways through the village in order to avoid the local traffic. Without internet, I still made it! But when I reached the river shore at the Yacht and ferry harbour, the first hour had expired. I decided to press on and found a pathway among the blackberries shrubbery along the shore line. It was a gift from above. Beautiful small beaches, lots of ripe, perfectly clean blackberries, mighty ships sailing by, clean water, lazy peaceful cattle enjoying the shade of large trees at noon, perfect weather with some nice water and background lighting... For the first time in more than three decades that I live here have I hiked along the patch of shoreline and have almost reached the big Merwede bridge. Found the way back through the woods and reached the village starting point in 2,5 hours of hiking, berry picking and photographing. What a day!
And a good night's sleep after it.
Lumix G90 / 12-35mm f2.8. —At 16mm (32mm in full frame) and f4.5 this zoom lens is sharp enough. Unfortunately, zoom out wider than that and it loses its fantastic resolution power. Shutter speed 1/1600 sec. I hesitated here debating whether I should perhaps use f5.6 or even f8 to get the yachts in focus too. But now I think this was just right. Or f3.5 would have been even better. I got treated by a softer light at the moment.

The Lac du Bourget, near Chambéry, in the Savoie Area...
Lovely place, lovely mood and a perfect moment.
Viviers du Lac - France
► █░▓ ⎽⎽⎽⎽⎽⎽ 🐆 INSTEAD of RHINOs, HIPPOs and LIONs, this moving construction appeared at high noon. A large man-made object translating with a conspicuous speed through the calm waters.
It's the local passenger ferry, heading from Sleeuwijk to Werkendam along the Boven Merwede river. The shape of the ferry is striking and ingenious. It is not only adding to the stability of the vessel, it may as well hint on catamaran build. I imagine somebody must have gotten a prize for corporate identity design here. The idea has been conceived and consequentially applied — from bridges and lock gate sentry boxes to ferry boats and the town hall building (the roof of latter you can just see perking above the bow of the ferry). I guess the underlying idea was to resemble a wave, as the town historically couples its existence with the waters of this mighty river, the largest Rhine branch in its Lowlands delta. At this point already enforced by the most of Meuse waters (Afgedamde Maas). –Everything has been marked up for your convenience.
However. After two decades of letting it sink in my impartial observing, I must come up with a following verdict... I don't like it. Its hyper-modern implementation somehow doesn't blend with the historic environment. Which has in essence remained rural, in spite of all the recent development.
—To my utter amazement, the vessel's bridge was in darkness, the front and rear windows completely shielded by the roller blinds. Yes, the light was very bright, a mere minute after high noon. But I would never have guts to rely only on monitor screens when navigating in such busy waters. Not to mention the summer low levels...
Lumix G90 / Lumix 12-35 mm f2.8. —At 33mm (66mm in full frame) and f6.3 aperture priority. Shutter speed of 1/640 sec freezes movement of the ferry which has considerable speed.

► █░▓ ≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈ Inland passenger cruise ship, sailing under the flag of Switzerland, enters pervading dusk. The view of the Sun, 8 minutes before its setting, is being blocked by the riverbank, trees and a levee. Few passengers bravely remain on the upper deck, understanding that this is a magical moment before the dark sets in. Sailing downstream they will be soon nearing the magical Y-branching, actually bifurcation where Boven Merwede splits into Beneden Merwede (leading northwest to Rotterdam urban area) and Nieuwe Merwede (leading southwest to the magisterial works at the North Sea inflowing behind the Hollands Diep and Haringvliet). 'Nieuwe' means 'New', that branch starting off two miles down from where the ship is here. New Merwede was literally made by St. Elizabeth's flood in 1421. So you get the idea - the 'new' in Europe begins somewhere in XIV century :)) . The flood mentioned was the 7th worst in the long drenched history of the Lowlands and ranks 20th on the list of deadliest floods in history.
Back to our day and age. This is the spot from which I take most of my river pics. The riverbank lies 30 meters behind my back, giving impression that you stand in the midst of the river stream. There are times when the spot I stand on here gets flooded. Also times when I couldn't get closer than 900 m to the shore (from where the levee stands, every some years the flood reaches the levee).
At the moment of publishing this image, Lady Diletta has been pushing southwards (upstream) over Rhine, halfway between the Dutch/German border and Düsseldorf. This was captured exactly four months ago. If you take a closer look (larger screen), you'll see 12 passengers populating the upper deck and three watching the sunset from their cabins. Behind the cruiser are the cranes in Werkendam, the small town of the orthodox protestants and big shipyards on the other side of the river.

► █░▓ GEOMETRY & SYMMETRY of the past. Claimed and taken over by the nature (or sooner a gagman in the neighbourhood).
When I purchased my G90 this exhibit was one of the first snapshots I ventured with it. Revisited two and half years later, it stands its ground without a slightest sign of decay. On the contrary. It's more alive than ever!
Up until July 18th I had the longest break in publishing images and following the fellow uploads on Flickr since years. In the morning of July 14th I drove to Sleeuwijk, the village across the river, after a long time. Had a good hour available to walk around. This photo editor is better than I expected, but the hue adjustments in particular are to me the biggest gain. The hue is more user-friendly than that of the Affinity Photo. I can finally get the right nuance of green with the foliage and grass. Which is in my experience the most difficult colour to get correct with micro-four-thirds sensors.
Also nice are the space saving options. I could have exported it to *.heic format, in which case it would have taken 25 times less space on my precious SSD.
