Results of the Incomplete City - Beta workshop

in C-mine designcentrum in Genk

Will we collectively create a city of the

future?

Z33 and ArchitectuurWijzer invite architects, urban planners, designers, sociologists, engineers,… (both professionals and students) to participate in the Incomplete City Beta Workshop, conducted by Space Caviar, to collectively envision the future of Genk.

Incomplete City is an ongoing experiment in urban design initiated by Joseph Grima (Space Caviar), Dan Hill and Marco Ferrari, together with Mark Smout, at the School of Urban Design, University College London. The workshop uses drawing as a tool to explore the subtle balances that underlie the urban fabric we inhabit, and the forces which shape it. Starting from personal visions and spatial experiences, the Incomplete City platform will give participants the opportunity to think boldly about the future of Genk and the possibilities of a return of production in the city. The workshop will unfold as a collective experiment in urban design and self-determination of the urban landscape. The design of a city evolves not top-down from the bird's eye perspective of an urban planner, but bottom-up from the experiences of its inhabitants.

The workshop will run from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. for four days, from Wednesday 28th September to 1st October, at C-mine design centre, Genk
