This is an interesting photo I took that I think is a good depiction of function. We can see the dense ground of the forest made up of ferns and dead leaves. There is also a dead log (disturbance) in the middle of the photo. I think this shows the log not only as just a disturbance, but a new space for a new ecosystem to thrive. The dead log is functioning as a new home for different animals and possibly a new space for plants to emerge.
