This is why I like night photography. Many common places take on a totally different look, the contrasts are more pronounced, and colors stand out much more, especially with longer exposures. The city of Seattle and the Port are off to the left and they are lighting the fairly low clouds. Some pretty bright lights on out-of-sight industrial buildings on the left are also throwing additional light on the bridge frame. The little red dots on the overhead beam of the bridge are reflections from stop lights behind me. The Amgen offices are on the right beyond the bridge.

I'm probably the millionth person to take this shot from Pier 66 in Seattle, but hey, I don't care. I wanted one of my own.
When I first started shooting and sharing my photos on social media sites, I worried how my photos would compare with the competition. Perhaps many are wondering the same thing as they travel on their photographic journey. I can tell anyone, as I learned from my experience, the only competition is with your self, with who you are, with what drives you, and with what you want to make of yourself. Enjoy the work of others, be humble and willing to listen and learn from others, be kind and willing to mentor and teach others, give an encouraging word, withold the criticism, be a light wherever you are.
This photo was taken during some fun times when a group of friends named ourselves the Seattle Night Shooters. We would roam the city looking for fun and creative shots, and experiment and learn together. Good times!

Those of you who followed my travels to Turkey last year know that one of the highlights for me was seeing the Whirling Dervishes perform in Konya (You can see an image here).
This image is of a "fake" Dervish who performed at a dinner show I went to in Cappadocia. I called them the "Disco Dervishes" since they performed in a very dark room with a black light and a disco ball above. Nevertheless, it did give me some idea of what the Dervish performance was like, and encouraged me to attend a real performance a week later in Konya.
