Wearside has some fantastic sandy beaches, often acknowledged as the jewel in the crown of the Seaburn and Roker seafront. If that's the case, then the former Seaburn Fun Park has to be the carbuncle that has for too long blighted the landscape. The irony is, there is no fun park, except for the weekend of the annual International Airshow, when the otherwise empty space is occupied by a temporary funfair. The rest of the year, it stands completely empty.
