A fully rigged three-master that once served as a cargo ship on the old "Zuyder sea", now IJssel Lake, and the Wadden Sea.
This type of ship , a so called "Tjalk", was designed to sail through shallow waters and therefore a keel is missing at the bottom of such ships.
A keel ensures that a sailing ship cannot drift away sideways and for that reason the "swords" were made on both sides of these ships that could be lowered up or down. The effect is the same as a keel.
The antique cargo and fishing boats still in service are floating museum pieces and are cherised by their owners....
The next weeks I will post photos from my visit to the Völklinger Hütte. A fully preserved ironworks from the heyday of industrialization and nowadays a world heritage site.

We had the option of renting one of the guest houses (the white house) fully equipped or the space in the campsite with an equipped kitchen area, bathroom with hot shower, laundry room, lighting a fire with firewood, seeing stars, Airbnb, etc. On the grounds of the well-structured and well-maintained property, there are several balconies to watch the sunset from rocking hammocks or wooden benches, a deck to see a stream and the possibility of reaching the crystalline waters through well-made trails, a part of the recovered Atlantic forest and original. The wifi works really well.
This inn is 2.8km (0.62 mile / 6 minutes) from the Pedra Menina (Stone Girl) gatehouse (Caparaó National Park) by car, in Espírito Santo State.
One of the owners, Thalles Vecce, gave us valuable tips and all kinds of help. He is really a good person.
They live on the property, in the yellow house in the photograph.
Opening. I will post another shot when it is fully open. It is a very large flower - perfect for drying when it 'Dies'. :)

British fully rigged steel sailing ship 'SV Lord Lonsdale' was built 1889. It had 3 masts, a tonnage of 1756 grt and was (or is) 69.1 x 12 x 7.1 m tall. Lonsdale caught fire on 6.10.1909 being on voyage from Hamburg for Mazatlan (West Coast Mexico) in Port Stanley Harbour (Falkland Islands) and was beached to extinguish the fire. It had been loaded with coal. It had been hulked after the fire and then beached again in 1940/1942 as a wreck south of Punta Arenas at the Strait of Magellan.

Now that the American Goldfinch has fully composed himself, he's ready for one final photo before flying off.
One thing is for sure ,there are certainly no shortage of great photo locations on the Arizona & Eastern Railroad. It also helps when you have two fully qualified tour guides (and great friends too!) All of us spent 2 days in the greater Clifton, AZ area to see the Morenci Mine operations and AZER trains 202-203. Up before sunrise each day, we started with inbound AZER train 202 from Lordsburg, MN to South siding where interchange is made with Clifton local 203. On Wednesday morning, February 16, 2022 after getting the 202-203 meet, we were directed to gravel road in Guthrie, AZ to a tremendous overview of Rattlesnake Canyon where the AZER hugs the Gila River. Three GE B40-8's have no trouble moving along at a brisk 10 mph, giving us all plenty of time to shoot as much as possible while taking in this incredible view. It was safe to say we left here to begin our "real" day with many smiles all around.
One of my huge cherry trees is fully blooming. This is everytime a fantastic view, I have to share with You. In that case I can easily live with the fact, that this photo isn't really satisfying the artistic demands I usually apply on my work. Especially when the evening sun is letting the tree glow, I can't stop watching it.
Einer meiner beiden riesigen Kirschbäume steht in voller Blüte. Dies ist jedesmal ein umwerfender Anblick, den ich einfach mal teilen muss. Da kann ich auch gut damit leben, dass das Bild meinen üblichen gestalterischen Ansprüchen nicht unbedingt entspricht. Vor allem wenn die Abendsonne den Baum zum Glühen bringt, kann ich mich daran nicht satt sehen.

This apparent Celtic supporter is suitably dressed for the weather here. While Storm Dudley is ongoing, and it is blowing a hoolie across the central belt right now, we are preparing for Storm Eunice coming on Friday. These 70-90mph gusts will seem tame when, on Friday, they are accompanied with 20-30cm of snow even to lower levels. We are used to horizontal rain here on the west coast of Scotland - not so used to getting horizontal snow!
So... looking forward to some blizzards on Friday but hopefully no power cuts. Stay warm. Enjoy!
as our country erupts around more (heartbreaking, painful) racial injustice, my heart aches. while fully aware of the horrors in this world, i turn again and again to nature. i dig in the dirt, plant seeds, and notice beauty. i watch light, as it always accompanies even the deepest darkness. this flower reminds me to shine, to blossom, and to love, love, love.
We were at the gate when it opened and as we drove in we noticed two rhinos on the side of the road. The sun was not fully up and this is the photo that resulted.
