The first Full Moon of the year is named after howling wolves
Today, we use many of these ancient month names as Full Moon names. A common explanation is that Colonial Americans adopted many of the Native American names and incorporated them into the modern calendar. However, it seems that it is a combination of Native American, Anglo-Saxon, and Germanic month names which gave birth to the names commonly used for the Full Moon today.

Yesterday as I was driving to an early AM appointment, I saw the full harvest moon setting over the mountains. It was so gorgeous. I had my camera with me but no time to stop and shoot. : ( Today's moonset was about an hour later so it wasn't as dramatic as yesterday. But I did catch the moon rolling off a cloud! : )
I captured the full Harvest moon rising over Lancashire. It was one of the best moonrises I have seen for quite some time. This image has currently gained 3.5k in likes on my Twitter account.
The moon is at her full,
and riding high,
Floods the calm fields with light.
The airs that hover in the summer sky
Are all asleep tonight

The 2nd full moon of August is the 2nd biggest moon of the year I believe. It was a nice night for it.
