We congratulate the student community for participating in large numbers in yesterday's public .
meeting. Ex-office-bearers of the JNUSU, cutting across political lines expressed solidarity with the student .
movement in JNU, demanding withdrawal of punishment and fulfillment of Charter of Demands. The speakers .
congratulated the JNUSU for taking self-corrective measures for the unfortunate incident of 191tl February .
through JNUSU Council resolution and the UGBM expressing regret for the incident and the individual .
students expressing regret. After this unprecedented gesture on the part of the JNUSU, disciplinary action .
against students is completely unjustified. Several instances from the past were recounted by the speakers, .
different types of impasses in the university, were always resolved through the process of dialogue a and .
dlacuaalona. In the present struggle however, the Administration has not even Initiated this process with the .
JNUSU, even after 8 days of Hunger Strike. The ex-office bearers of JNUSU, yesterday set a deadline of 48 .

The cornerstone of the democratic ethos is the process of dialogues and discussions. The present .

students. Perhaps the JNU VC thinks, having little knowledge about the politics and culture of JNU, that he .
can suppress students' movement in the campus by resorting to such high-handedness. We would like to telf .
the present VC that JNU as a university has seen many Vice-Chancellors come and go but none could .

suppress the democratic movement in our campus. He should not forget that JNU students resisted Indira .
Gandhi from entering our campus during Emergency and LK Advani in 1996. If the JNU Administration .
believes that it can demolish this student movement which, over the years has challenged the ruling .

In this gameplan of the Administration, it is finding the most vocal support from the anti-student fascistic ABVP which is completely antrthetical to the democratic ethos of our campus. It is a project of the RSS-BJP since the times of the NDA regime to destroy the JNU students' movement under the leadership of JNUSU. The likes of Pravin Togadia, Narendra Modi openly vilified .the student movement in our campus demanding a crackdown on the JNUSU. However, the students of this campus have resisted all §Uch moves .
on the part of the RSS-BJP during the NDA regime. If the ABVPs dream of destroying the student .
movement In JNU was not materialized at a time when their Sanghi bosses were in power at the centre, ABVP's present utopia of administrative crackdown on JNUSU and the students' movement will remain a distant dream when their masters in the RSS-BJP are a disarrayed house trying to grapple with the defea.t ofthe RSS-BJP in 2004 and the embarrassment in the recent elections in UP. .
While yesterday's pamphlet of ABVP spewed venom at the Left activists alleging them of violence, a .
tiny report was printed tucked in one corner of The Hindu stating that 11 ABVP activists were arrested, Including the present DUSU Vice President from the ABVP for indulging in vandalism in Sri Aurobindo College. Continuing with Its record of violence, on the same day, the Sangh Glroh attacked the Dean of Fine Arts of Maharaja Sayajlrao University, Prof. Shlvajl Panikkar, for standing in solidarity with the right to freedom of expression of his fellow student The ABVP goons brutally murdered Prof. Sabharwal In Ujjaln In broad daylight. The student movement of our campus needs no lesson from the fanatic goons of ABVP. ABVP has wasted enough paper and ink demanding punishment of the JNUSU and the students. The SFI·AISF challenges the ABVP to start an agitation against the JNUSU if it Is serious about Its own statements. The students of this campus will show them their right place like the people of the country had shown the right place to Mr. Vajpayee and Co. .
There are elements within the Administration like Prof. R. Kumar, the present Rector II, who in 2002, after ABVP's violence on common students and JNUSU took no action against the lumpens, when he was the Chief Proctor. The Administration given its stubbornness vis-a-vis the JNUSU and the open support from the ABVP has to make a choice; whether it wants to be associated with the progressi~ ethos of our campus or with the politics of violence of the ABVP. The student community however has made the choice to intensify the struggle and compel the Administration to concede to all our demands. We appeal to .

This picture represents the weekend of March 1 when my mom, dad, and sister all came up to Columbus to visit me for the weekend. That weekend, my fraternity hosted all of our families for “mom’s weekend”. Before this time, I had absolutely no desire for my family to meet some of my fraternity brothers or even spend time with my friends in general. For a long time, I haven’t had the best relationship with my parents, but over this past year, we’ve connected on levels we never have before.
