Nothing more fulfilling, relaxing, rejuvenating and humbling than being in the mountains !

This is at the Himalayan town of Manali.

We friends, went to this valley for some adventure sports, but sadly the rain gods had their own games to play !

But nonetheless, the rains always add to the beauty of any time and place and these were the mountains :)

Maybe I'm less cool now, I don't know

I just want to live before I die ♫

Due to my health condition, I am unable to hold or stabilize a camera for extended periods of time. Additionally, using a tripod has never been enjoyable for me, as it would cause pain when trying to position it correctly and constantly bending over to check the viewfinder. Consequently, I have chosen to explore digital AI artwork as an alternative. I understand that this may not be everyone's cup of tea, as it diverges from traditional photography. However, I have always granted myself the freedom to exercise artistic license and pursue whatever brings me joy. Currently, digital AI artwork fulfills that purpose, at least for the time being.

Wishes are fulfilled!

I moved here a few days ago. Now the distance to the office is much longer than it was earlier... But it doesn't matter.

Next week is hot, officially +32C and even +35C. I love hot weather, it's perfect for me. Finally I can swim a lot in the lake: in the morning before work, in the lunch time, in the evening and even in the night! I love swimming in the night, that's amazing! 😍 What could be better!

It's also hot weather today. Time to swim and relax on the beach 😊

This summer, we fulfilled a big wish of mine: Returning to Helgoland, the island of the Northern Gannets. These birds are so impressing and beautiful, majestic and fascinating - I could watch them for weeks. Every year, they build a breeding colony at the cliffs and allows the people to watch them raising their chicks.

As this grand old Live Oak tree reaches for the sky, the eruption of new growth at it’s extremities fulfills the promise of life that comes with each spring.

This weekend, I took care of Leonie, my best friend's daughter. She was traveling professionally. In the evening we went for a walk. It was so quiet and wonderful warm air. Suddenly Leonie said: "Greta, Greta, you have to take a picture, the sky is like honey!" I had to smile, but as usual Leonie was somehow right. :) I took the picture and showed it to her on the small monitor of the camera. Leonie sighed and said, "Too bad the sky is not pink!" At home I fulfilled her wish with the pink sky. I already posted this photo, you can see it in the first comment.

Thanks for viewing and commenting and fave, Leonie and I really appreciate that very much :-)

Happy Tuesday everyone!

About Corfe Castle

Corfe Castle is a stunning 11th century castle in Dorset, that has fulfilled a number of roles throughout its thousand-year history – from royal residence to military stronghold. Today Corfe Castle provides an atmospheric look into Britain’s medieval past, with its picturesque views and imposing structure attracting visitors from far and wide.

Corfe Castle history

The current incarnation of Corfe Castle was built by William the Conqueror in around 1066, although even before this the site was of great historical importance. Legend tells that when a Saxon hall stood on the site, the young Edward the Martyr was murdered there in 978 during a plot to position his half-brother Ethelred ‘the Unready’ as monarch. Edward was later canonised, with his feast day falling on the anniversary of his death – 18 March.

Following its construction as a medieval fortress, Corfe Castle would be expanded and altered over the coming centuries, especially in the 12th century by Edward I who built the imposing keep, and in the 13th century under King John. Not only did John further fortify the castle, he also used it as a prison and royal residence. Sold by Elizabeth I in 1572, Corfe Castle became a grand private home, first to Sir Christopher Hatton and later by Sir John Bankes in 1635.

The demise of Corfe Castle and the cause of its current ruined state came with the English Civil War. Having survived one siege in 1643, it would fall to another only 3 years later, before being slighted – or intentionally damaged – by the Parliamentarians. Its ruins were eventually handed back to the Bankes family, who retained it for 350 years before in 1982 gifting it to the National Trust.

Corfe Castle today

Today, Corfe Castle remains under the remit of the National Trust and is open to the public. Its romantic ruins sit high atop a natural ‘motte’, with many of its original features still well preserved. The castle’s towering 12th century keep may be explored, while a number of its gatehouses remain in good condition and allow visitors to walk through centuries of history.

Corfe Castle’s role as a military stronghold is also echoed in many of its hidden features – murder holes, fallen walls, and arrow loops to name a few. Stunning views of the village below may too be enjoyed from the castle’s elevated position, as well as the picturesque Purbeck Hills that surround it.

Due to my health condition, I am unable to hold or stabilize a camera for extended periods of time. "The fulfillment of your dreams lies within you and you alone."

Story: Two years ago, we were extremely fortunate to find this particular Barn Owl, that fulfilled the wishes of all, in and around Bay area. This one was very bold, in the sense that it would hunt daily in the early morning when it supposed to go back for roosting.

I still remember the day I first saw her. It was late August and the word was not out that she is around. When I first saw the report on ebird, I thought I will try my luck. So I drove to the spot before sunrise, and walked on one side of the park. Although I just wanted to photograph her in any pose, I consciously walked on that particular spot knowing I will have better background.

I could immediately spot her flying around, but on the other side of the park. However, I didn't choose to run for her. Instead I thought I will wait and observe the behavior. Soon enough, she decided to check out my side of the park. It was still few minutes to sunrise and and she was actively hunting. Occasionally flying past me in rather close distance. I was able to take few photographs of her flying, and desperately wished for the sun to come up.

As the sun risen, to my surprise, she decided to perch right in front of me. I could not have wished for more. She gave me ample opportunities to take her photograph, and as it might sound, when she decided to fly away, she chose to do it in my direction, giving me three very beautiful flying postures to photograph. After that day, I made two more attempts to photograph her. In my second attempt after a week, I was able to photograph her in the perfect golden light of the morning sun.

However, in my third attempt (after a month), what I saw made me sad. The park was teeming with so called photographers, who did not leave a single stone unturned to photograph the Barn owl. I saw group of people running behind the owl, people clamoring, and creating all sorts of disturbances. If anything was missing from the scene, it was the only thing you needed to be an wildlife photographer: patience.

Wailing Wall is the only remnant of the Temple of Jerusalem. About this part of Jerusalem, Christ said that "not one stone will remain." The wall was part of a larger whole, built by Herod the Great in 20 BC. Jerusalem destroyed in AD 70 the Roman legions under the command of Titus, fulfilling the words spoken by Christ. This place is a sacred place for the entire Jewish People.

Zijlpoort is a city gate in Leiden, The Netherlands. The gate was built in 1667 in the classical style according to a design by the Leiden architect Willem van der Helm and with sculpture by Rombout Verhulst. Because the gates have to connect with the city wall as well as with a bridge, the building is in the form of a parallelogram. The Zijlpoort, together with the Morspoort (1669) and Doelenpoort (1645), are the only of the original eight gates that survived. The name refers to the nearby river, the Zijl. The predecessor of the Zijlpoort stood at the end of the Haarlemmerstraat that is now called the Havenplein.

In the course of time, the Zijlpoort has, together with the hall above the passage, fulfilled different purposes over time: for example, at the beginning of the 18th century, a society of amateur poets and playwrights was based there, and from 1736 there was a school for poor children. Afterwards in the late 19th century, the city had a storage room above the gate.

In the last quarter of the 20th century, the Zijlpoort was renovated twice on a large scale. During the last renovation, in the 1990s, supporting constructions were put up on both sides of the gate. Since 1999, a catering shop has been established in one of them.

Isotta Fraschini quickly established a reputation for innovation and high-quality craftsmanship. Its legacy is often attributed to its eight-cylinder luxury cars built during the 1920s, but it was many years earlier that the company forged its reputation for motor racing. Leading the charge in the engineering department was Giustino Cattaneo who developed the Tipo I Corsa in 1907, which competed at the Coppa Florio that year and emerged victoriously. A year later, in modified form, it won the Targa Florio. Following these victories, Isotta Fraschini designed a high-performance, lightweight, road-going car called the Tipo FE Voiturette. Several high-horsepower models followed and were particularly popular with U.S.-based enthusiasts.

The United States market was important to Isotta Fraschini and they made considerable efforts to promote their cars, most often through racing endeavors. In 1908, placed second in the Vanderbilt Cup, and were victorious in several other events including the Briarcliff Trophy, Savannah Trophy, and the Lowell Cup. In preparation for the Indianapolis 500, Isotta Fraschini Motor Co. of New York commissioned the Tipo IM. Six examples were built in the spring of 1913, wearing designs inspired by the KM and TM models.

The Isotta Fraschini Tipo IM was powered by an aircraft-inspired overhead cam, a 16-valve engine with a revised bore and stroke ratio, and a displacement size of 7,238 cubic centimeters. Its 7.2-liter displacement allowed it to comply with the limit set for American racing events. The 135 horsepower produced at 2,350 RPM was sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual gearbox. Another advanced feature was the four-wheel braking system. The suspension was comprised of a solid front and a live rear axle with semi-elliptical leaf springs all around.

As production was winding down, production was delayed due to a strike at the factory. Despite the setbacks, the factory was able to fulfill its American contracts. The cars were sent to Le Havre, France, and loaded onto the Lusitania on April 29th. They arrived in New York on May 24th and were sent to Indianapolis by express train, just in time to participate in qualifying sessions.

The 1913 Indianapolis 500 was the third year of the event, and it was the substantial monetary rewards that attracted U.S. and European factory-backed teams. The Isotta Fraschini team had the most modern and sophisticated machinery that they were capable of producing, and the lineup of drivers was equally impressive, consisting of Targa Florio winner Vincenzo Trucco, American racer 'Terrible' Teddy Tetzlaff, and two-time Vanderbilt Cup winner Harry Grant. Ray Gilhooley was hired as the relief driver, and he was lent a Tipo KM, which he drove prior to the start of the race in exhibition laps.

In the end, it was the lack of preparation and fine-tuning that proved to be the Achilles Heel of the Tipo IM's effort, having been prepared during the midst of the labor strike. The demise of all three cars was attributed to minor mechanical issues, with Grant leaving on Lap 14 due to a split gas tank. Trucco had the same issue but his car held up to Lap 39 before he bowed out of the race. Tetzlaff's carried the torch for Isotta Fraschini through lap 118 when a broken drive chain ended his day.

The car driven by Tetzlaff returned to Indianapolis 500 a year later and was entrusted to Ray Gilhooley. On Lap 41, the Isotta suffered a tire blowout in Turn 3, which ensnared the drive chain. The car spun wildly and ejected the driver and riding mechanic in the process, eventually coming to a stop on tires in the infield.

In many ways, these were the end and pinnacle of an era, and at the same time gave a glimpse into the future. The chain drive system was archaic and the front wheel brakes were thoroughly modern. Had they not succumbed to mechanical issues, it would have been interesting how history would have recorded their accomplishments at Indy.

CHRISTMAS STORY of Jesus & John the Baptist in the womb:

At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea, where she entered Zechariah’s home and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. In a loud voice she exclaimed: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear! But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!” Luke 1:39-45

With this photograph I fulfilled a wish to myself. Those who know me are aware, that this is my favourite place in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. This pine tree at the Gleitmannshorn on top the small mt. Winter I've photographed quite a few times already, in almost any season and under most diverse weather conditions. But one version I've misst badly all the time, the one during a real winter. Because we are here on a mountain called winter this fact was unexabtable for me. And so I waited for more than two years for that moment, when I finally could start the quite exhausting hike up here (winter road clearing is not available here). I was hoping for some colours at the sky yesterday morning I wasn't granted with unfortunately. Nonetheless this was a very very special moment for me.

The forest edge fulfills an important role as a boundary. It serves as the interface between an open landscape—cultivated meadows, fields, or open land—and the mysterious, sometimes impenetrable thicket. The first row of trees plays a crucial role. Often shaped by wind, weather, rain, or struck by lightning, these character trees provide photographers with opportunities to highlight their unique features, often in contrast to their surroundings. In this particular shot, I am especially drawn to the deeply grooved bark of the mighty pine, which stands out as a distinctive element in the landscape.

Contractor Norman Hudson and his crew are working on the ArcusStone™ trim for these two Fountaingrove buildings. (ArcusStone™ is a limestone-based coating that looks like natural stone.)

The closest house exhibits the finished trim in brown, while the gray walls (actually called "brown coat") are awaiting the acrylic stucco finish. The crew is right now doing the ArcusStone™ trim for the farther house. It will be applied on top of styrofoam strips that can be seen leaning against the house.

Contractor Norman Hudson called me on February 18, 2021 to tell me he was in line to get the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. He died two days later, at 77 years of age. He thus fulfilled his often-expressed desire never to retire.

Dear brothers and sisters,

Tonight we stand united as one, under the light of the stars, to fulfill our destiny.

I know what’s on your mind. You see the enemy and think: they are more than us. They are stronger than us. We can't win.

Let me tell you something. It’s not bad to be scared, but you are wrong.

They might be more than us. Some of them might be bigger than us. But they are not stronger than us.

The reason is simple: we have something they don’t have, a purpose.

Tonight we don’t fight for greed. We don’t fight for fame. We don’t fight for honor or glory.

Tonight we fight for the future of our race. To protect our homes, our families. To build a brighter future for our children.

So grab your swords, raise your heads, look them in the eyes, and let the strength of your hearts guide you.

For tonight, we write a new chapter in the history of our race. One of victory.

Move forward!
