A very handsome double-fronted house (or double-house with a house in the middle?) at Thorney, flying the Ukranian flag. Hopefully this image will look historic very soon, idiotic war of pointless aggression.

A rower heading along the Trent towards Trent Bridge. If you zoom in you can maybe see a windmill in the distance behind the bridge (Green's windmill and science centre). The Trent is a surprisingly big and wide river.

The river Leen, which is one of the rivers of Nottingham. It flows into the Trent. As you can probably tell from this photo it has had its route changed many times. It is the river upon which Robin Hood and Little John had their famous fight. When I go to work I cycle along the Trent and then along the Leen. While this is a fairly tedious man-made scene the light and the reflections and the colours here really caught my eye.

The old and new buildings along the canal in central Nottingham. The lens is 35mm on the XA and you can clearly see the buildings "leaning together" with this short-ish focal length. This is where medium and large format helps a lot, much longer focal lengths available as sensor size is bigger.

This is from the second of two rolls of expired film given to me. I shot this roll of Fuji Superia xtra 400 (expired in 2014) just for fun at a local state park back on 4/4/2021 with my Nikon FE and 35mm f/2. I developed this roll at home, "scanned" it with my DSLR and converted the negatives to positives using Negative Lab Pro. It was a nice and refreshing experience to just shoot this roll for fun, to notice my surroundings and try to capture whatever caught my eye (not knowing how it might turn out since it was expired and prepare myself that if it was a "complete loss" it wouldn't be the end of the world--at least I enjoyed the shooting experience). The developing and scanning process helped me to continue to grow in film photography and as a person as well. I'm thankful for what I've learned and for the many kind and gifted people in the film community who have shared their images and encouraged and inspired me to keep shooting film and learning. I can see a positive change in my view of my photos and that seems to match how I am changing as a person over time—less critical of myself and my photos, open to learning and growing as a person and a photographer, and more open to the beautiful imperfections both in myself and in my photos.

No light for this one unfortunately, I'm sure I'll get to try again at some point this summer. I'm slightly frustrated to have cropped part of the barrier but that's all part of the fun with viewfinder cameras like the Cosmic Symbol.

And quite a nice light leak as well at the right hand side. I need to keep this camera in its case more than I do.

I was hiding from the rain in here. Interesting decor inside. I find the Superia Xtra film plus fast Russian lens generally gives a nice warm rendering of interiors.

A garage in Bourne (if memory serves) from a trip out that way over the summer. I saw this and pulled over to get a photo despite the drab light. I liked the bars on the window, the red door, the peeling paint on the brickwork and all the lines on the roof.

first time i see them...

Handheld Leica M3 DS, Summicron 50/f2, Fuji xtra400, dusk, at a temporary exhibition in the main square of Trieste, Italy

At the "Old ticket Office" pub at Cambridge train station. This was at minimum focus distance for the lens, so very narrow depth of field and focus maybe a few cm out from the rangefinder window. Equally I could only push myself back so far in the chair so perhaps that's why focus is not quite as close as it might be. It's all about the scene anyway, focus is usually less important than we think.

This is the view from a bench seat towards the top of the hill road from Ketton to Collyweston. The farm building in the centre is Kilthorpe Grange which was built in 1754 for Francis Wotton (Jr). Francis was the Clerk of Ketton, his will is dated 13th June 1796.

An impressive water tower at Thorney. Now the town museum. There is a cast iron water tank on the sixth floor of this tower. There were two engines (steam engines?) in the base of the tower to raise the water. I think I might try this again one day with a large-format camera with lens shift.
