Svinafellsjokull glacier ending in an amazing glacier tongue and lake at the foot of Vatnajokull National Park in South Iceland. The glacier tongue looks like a sleeping jade dragon to me who just opens an eye ... :)

Made the trek across Michigan today with my wife and a friend to visit St. Joseph Lighthouse in Benton Harbor. I just love seeing it encased in ice.

Both the American and Canadian Falls are barely visible due to the largest ice buildup that I've ever seen!

The shadows are created from the various hotels beside this natural wonder.

A lot of the tourists voiced disappointment not to see the Falls, therein lies the title ;-)

For Macro Mondays: Hot/Cold

Thank you for your comments and favourites. It is really appreciated.

The temperatures have dropped again, not as far below zero as in early January but low enough to solidify the water in this birdbath.

Even with the the belated start to actively riding for 2024 the crew at Slow Roll Cycles did a little TLC on my Fuji Absolute(2018 Bike-O-Rama purchase) which allowed me to gain some valuable base miles on during the weirdly warm and mostly dry winter months. In April, I got my trusty Midnight Special back after an extensive overhaul by the trusty hands over at Black Saddle Bike Shop with the dynamo hub and new wheels being the biggest upgrades, which alone carried me to roughly 4000 miles in 8 months. During the coldest of winter morning commutes with double digit subzero windchills, Bruce (my Surly Wednesday) proved to be worth every dollar and traversed some pretty sketchy inclement winter weather when it existed with only one fall. During many of times in between the guys over at Revolution Cycles were always happy to watch my bikes when I didn't feel like locking it up outside.

After all this was said and done I finished 2024 with 5237 miles and while my milage was down from the previous year (6530 in 2023), I achieved a bigger goal and was able to commute to work by bike everyday. Rain, snow, wind, none of the elements kept me from a two wheeled transport. I'm thankful as always for such a great group of supportive friends I've made in the Madison Bikes community and beyond through the love of cycling, and it seems the family keeps getting bigger. I should not forget to mention, I loved joining on the Wednesday evening "taco ride" with Motorless Motion Bicycles starting and ending at Bandit and will miss the comradery of the group and highly suggest joining for tacos sometime. Who knows, maybe I'll make a guest appearance?!

Keep the rubber side down and see you on the paths/streets/lakes or wherever we cross paths, always onward and forward!

Before the cold snap we had a series of foggy mornings with water drops condensing on the spider webs. Then we had a sudden drop in temperature and the water drops froze very quickly. I think the globular structure in the centre of the web is a large water drop suddenly frozen. There are lots of smaller drops in the threads radiating away from the centre. I hope the spider has taken shelter in a suitably warm crevice.

I did not take many photographs today [11-11-2019] as it was too cold for me.

I do not know why this installation featuring two bronze women and their shopping is located near the Halfpenny Bridge but I do know that it is known locally as "The Hags With The Bags". It might even be an advertisement from Arnotts which is nearby [see the bags].

It has taken me many years to find its official name and the name of the artist. It is “The Meeting Place Statue” and it was sculpted by Jakki McKenna in 1988. As a matter of interest the Bronze Cow near the Jervis Shopping Centre was created Jackki McKenna ... I really like it.

Jackie McKenna is known throughout Ireland for her many public sculpture commissions. For many years, until around 2005, McKenna focused on commissioned sculptures. She has done a number of sculptures in public view and enjoys the conversations and criticisms that occur as a result. She is a co-founder of the Leitrim Sculpture Centre in Manorhamilton.

For this I laid flat on my stomach and had high hopes for more colors reflecting, no such luck c'est la vie.

Hero City: Voronezh.

From 10 to 17 September 2011, Voronezh celebrated its 425th anniversary. The anniversary of the city was given the status of a federal scale celebration that helped attract large investments from the federal and regional budgets for development. On December 17, 2012, Voronezh became the fifteenth city in Russia with a population of over one million people. Today Voronezh is the economic, industrial, cultural, and scientific center of the Central Black Earth Region. As part of the annual tradition in the Russian city of Voronezh, every winter the main city square is thematically drawn around a classic literature. In 2020, the city was decorated using the motifs from Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker. In the year of 2021, the architects drew inspiration from Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale The Snow Queen as well as the animation classic The Snow Queen from the Soviet Union.

Even the lake froze over.

As I was walking in the park I saw someone getting pulled out of the lagoon, I missed that photo op but was glad all the person only ended up with was some pretty cold feet. I left that spot and opted to watching a subdued sunset from more solid ground.

Morning's were cool here recently in San Luis Obispo, CA. But not cold enough to freeze water this thick. Leaf in a bowl of water, then in the freezer overnight.

Noticed just this afternoon, this poor little rose, blooming in a flower pot out in my yard... and it is frozen solid as a rock!

I originally wanted to crop the frozen lake in half... However I left it as is, it gives a wide-open isolated feel to the image. #422 in Explore!

I will never tire of the experience of riding my bike from the shore onto a frozen lake, everyday I'm thankful for #abikenamedbruce built up over at Black Saddle Bike Shop back in 2021.
