So, our pipes froze, and although the pipe to the sink thawed (yeay!) the pipe to the toilet burst (boo). This is the bit of pipe that burst. Scott's dad sawed this piece off, and sweat soldered on a new piece, and all is good. Needless to say, the pipe is now insulated in that foam stuff.

Trying to unfreeze the pipes. There's a space heater under the sink. It worked on the cold one after about nine hours, but the hot isn't going yet.

Seems like an ordinary thing right? Well here in Southeast Texas where it should never get REALLY cold, my pipes froze. The turn of the faucet got me NO water and I have to wait for it to get above freezing (for the one hour that it did) to see if my pipes would thaw. Luckily they did, but now I'm editing photos on a night there is supposed to be an ice storm.

Burst pipe occurs when the water pressure inside the pipe increases in a certain area. The water pressure also increases because of clogs anywhere in the pipe. Also the frozen pipes are a large problem in winter for pipe bursting. So keep an eye on your plumbing system all year round and call experts if needed.
