It is always such a pleasure to be able to escape the city in the lowlands within a short time up to the wonderland of snowy mountains in the Black Forest. Lovely views over the Rhine valley and to the Vosges mountains are possible on clear days.
At first I admire always the wonderful old Beech trees if I am on the Schauinsland mountain. They are some hundred years old and I love them.
These trees look always a bit like dancing because they are formed by the strong Westwind.
The beech trees look so different every time - sometimes a heavy load of snow paints soft lines - another time the snow was melting a bit during the days (often 0 + 2 C around noon ). Than cold nights (-7 to -10 C) add a real icy look, like in this image.
By the way, these are actually 2 trees standing together.
I have taken many images of them - it is never, ever boring
to capture their beauty in winter.

Thanks for your kind visit, dear friends :-)
Golden light hour just makes it everything beautiful. It can turn a muted winter landscape into a warm, shadow filled wonderland.
Another Hoar Frost shot. This one is from my regular camera rather than the drone.
I hope everyone enjoys this image! :D
I can’t have you thinking all I post is our Central Coast beaches, so here’s a change of scenery: the beautifully barren and otherworldly Mendenhall Glacier in the Juneau Icefields, Alaska.
It’s not quite the warm sand underfoot I’m used to -more like ice that could freeze your socks off. (And it did literally when I accidently stomped through into a hidden stream, but that's a story for another day). Nature is amazing, it's beauty knows no bounds, even in a place as chilly and rugged and barren as this.
Hope everyone’s weekend is as cool as this glacier (but, you know, maybe a bit warmer)! ❄️😄
Many thanks for every fave and comment, I appreciate them all!
The stunning Caucasus mountain landscape of Georgia came alive through this scene, where a lone rider glided joyfully over the snow-capped peaks. The crisp winter air, dazzling white slopes, and vast silence of nature formed a breathtaking backdrop for such a simple moment of happiness. Capturing this frame, I was struck by how the grandeur of these mountains amplifies the joy of adventure, reminding us of the freedom found in nature’s embrace. The Caucasus, timeless and majestic, stands not only as a natural wonder but also as a canvas where human spirit and nature meet in perfect harmony.
Neige immaculée,
Sous mes pas, un doux silence,
L’azur s’étend loin.
Pristine snow untouched,
Soft silence beneath my steps,
Blue sky stretches far.
A small tree covered in thick ice at the Blackstone River in Cumberland, Rhode Island on a very cold winters day,
Pas une ombre en vue,
neige vierge sous mes pas,
bleu profond, silence.
No shadow in sight,
virgin snow beneath my steps,
deep blue, silent peace.
Dante Alighieri: "Drei Dinge sind uns aus dem Paradies geblieben: die Sterne der Nacht, die Blumen des Tages und die Augen der Kinder".
Pas une ombre en vue,
neige vierge sous mes pas,
bleu profond, silence.
No shadow in sight,
virgin snow beneath my steps,
deep blue, silent peace.
Échos des sommets,
Glaciers blancs, l'abîme appelle,
Silence de l'air.
Summits whisper low,
White glaciers kiss the deep void,
Silence in the air.
Neige immaculée,
Silence pur sous mes pas,
Le ciel touche l'âme.
Pristine snow glistens,
Silent steps in powdered dreams,
Sky and soul embrace.
Lac endormi dort,
Miroir des cimes glacées,
Pas dans l’éphémère.
The lake slumbers still,
Mirror of frozen summits,
Steps in the fleeting.
Glacier en larmes,
Sous le ciel bleu de Vanoise,
La fonte murmure.
Crying glacier,
Beneath Vanoise’s blue skies,
The melt whispers low.
