BAP KENNEDY BAND
IRLANDA/USA

Scott Rinning, frontman of Scottish band The Cinematics. Snapped in my living room one evening when time was forgotten about in the flow of good conversation and cheap wine (the exif data tells me this was taken just after 3am). Here, he is likely looking for the reference for some academic he's cited.
This is the house where Doors frontman Jim Morrison and his family lived from 1959 until 1961. Located in Alexandria, Virginia, it is within walking distance from my home. At the time when the Morrison family purchased this house, it had been sitting vacant since 1957 when in September of that year former resident Betty Howard committed suicide by gunshot in the basement of the dwelling. According to The Lizard King Was Here author Mark Opsasnick, when Jim learned of the suicide he immediately took up residence in the basement as his bedroom. Jim was said to have stated to a neighbor at the time that he wanted "To get the vibe".
While living at this residence in Alexandria, Morrison completed his last three years of high school at the George Washington HS, graduating in 1961. Morrison exhibited no particular musical abilities during his time in Alexandria. He left Alexandria shortly after graduation and moved to Florida for a brief period of time before moving to California. The Doors were officially formed as a band in 1965, just four years after Morrison had graduated from high school. Morrison died in Paris in 1971 at the age of 27, ten years after leaving Alexandria.
The house was recently assessed at $1.36 million and is not currently on the market.

Formed in 2004 by Mark Tremonti and Scott Phillips after a cooling of their relationship with Creed's singer (Creed has since reconciled and reunited), the new band hooked up with then ex-Creed bassist Marshall and former Mayfield Four frontman Kennedy (who recently performed and co-wrote 2 songs on Slash’s solo record and fronts his touring band).
In 2004 the band recorded their debut album, One Day Remains. It went gold in the United States and spawned three singles as well as the track “Metalingus,” which was adopted by the WWE’s Superstar Edge as his theme song later that year. In 2007 the band released the critically acclaimed second album, Blackbird, which included the hit singles “Rise Today” and “Watch Over You.” The latter became a top 10 video as well as the featured song on VH-1’s Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew. The band took to the road to promote their sophomore release, gaining more fans across the globe with their intense and powerful live show.
Lyrically, the first two albums are based on themes immersed in hope and perseverance in the face of adversity. On AB III, however, the theme has shifted. Kennedy states, “This record is definitely a departure from the last two albums in terms of its subject matter. It touches on the thoughts and emotions of someone who has come to question everything that was once regarded as an absolute truth. It’s the realization that everything you once believed in might not exist.”
This journey is set into motion by the album’s opening track, “Slip to the Void.” The song’s sparse and moody intro set’s up the narrative as Kennedy’s vocal and lyrics emerge. Tremonti adds, “’Slip To The Void,’ has one of my favorite vocal performances ever by Myles, the song is really creepy and lets the listener know the vibe of the record. It’s pretty dark, the intro really sucks you in.”
The album then shifts gears into the metallic first single, “Isolation,” showcasing Alter Bridge’s ability to play and write aggressively while maintaining their signature melodic component. Tremonti states, “Melody is still the most important thing for us. There’s no point in being heavy just for the sake of being heavy.”
From the bombastic riffs of “Still Remains” to the brooding band favorite “Show Me A Sign,” the album plays like a concept record whose main character is someone desperately struggling to find their place in a world steeped in doubt and emptiness. The track, “Words Darker Than Their Wings,” is the final chapter of this tale. Kennedy says, “The lyric was inspired by a conversation I had with a good friend a while ago. It was the catalyst for the idea of having both Mark and I trade off on the lead vocal. I thought it would be a good way of making the differing points of view in the ‘conversation’ be more effective. More importantly, I thought Mark sounded great singing it!”
While AB III is a record with a consistent theme, there are songs both musically and thematically that break away and touch on different human emotions. One of those moments is found in “Wonderful Life,” a song that Kennedy claims was “An extremely emotional song to put together, it took a long time.” He then adds, “The lyric was inspired by the idea that there will come a day when we all must say goodbye to the ones we love and hold dear in our hearts. Basically, I asked myself what would I want to say in that final moment, that last goodbye?”
The band enlisted Producer Michael “Elvis” Baskette (Iggy Pop, Incubus), to capture the vision the band had for AB III. Baskette, described by Tremonti as “like a fifth band-member,” was also at the helm for the recording of Blackbird. Kennedy says,” Over the years we have definitely established a bond with Elvis. We trust his instincts, he knows how to bring out the best in us sonically and creatively.”
AB III is an incredibly intense and dynamic album proving Alter Bridge continues to grow and evolve with each recording. “We went into the process of putting the record together with a lot of confidence,” Tremonti reveals, “but we didn’t go into it looking to be commercial, or to have radio singles. We just wanted this to be an album that pleased us artistically, through and through.”

Wladimir "Wally" Tax (14 February 1948 – 10 April 2005) was a Dutch singer and songwriter, best known as founder and frontman of the Nederbeat group The Outsiders. After commercial and artistic success with The Outsiders in the late 1960s, he had a brief solo career in the 1970s, and then was a successful songwriter, producing a number of hit songs for Dutch artists. He faded into obscurity in the 1980s; after his death in 2005 two benefit concerts in Amsterdam proved his lasting popularity and influence.
Tax was born of a Dutch father and a Russian Romani mother; his parents had met in a concentration camp during World War II. He grew up in Amsterdam and learned English at an early age from contacts with American sailors, for whom he acted as a pimp. In 1959, at age 11, he was one of the founding members of the beat band The Outsiders. The band sang English lyrics, with Tax as the main songwriter; Tax sang and played guitar and harmonica. Even while playing with The Outsiders, Tax recorded a solo album (with a symphonic orchestra), Love-In.
The Outsiders reached a measure of success, opening up for The Rolling Stones in 1966 and scoring a number of Dutch hits. They were one of the best-known bands of the Nederbeat movement—when they signed with Phonogram Records in 1968, Billboard reported on it. Leading what Billboard called "the leading Dutch beat group," Tax had a high profile—he was reported to have the longest hair in the country, and lived a lavish lifestyle involving expensive dinners, chauffeur-driven cars, and friendships with Little Richard and Johnny Hallyday, as well as rumors of an affair with Brigitte Bardot.
Although The Outsiders' records were not distributed in the United States, Tax did go overseas and made friends with notable musicians such as Tim Hardin, Richie Havens, and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, and attended the Woodstock Festival. He played with Hardin and Jimi Hendrix at the latter's Electric Ladyland Studio. As he explained in his 1998 autobiography, success came too quick for him, and alcohol and drugs took their toll, and combined with a lack of financial security (he admitted not being good at bookkeeping since his "way of life" had killed too many braincells) the next decades of Tax's life were chaotic.
After recording three albums, The Outsiders broke up in 1969, and Tax, after briefly heading a band called Taxfree, went solo. He was accompanied, in succession, by Bamboule (1972), George Cash (1973), Watermen (1973), and The Mustangs (1976).
The end of his playing career was "Let's Dance" (1977) a small hit in the Netherlands. Afterward, he concerned himself mainly with songwriting and wrote a number of hits for Dutch artists such as Lee Towers ("It's Raining in my Heart") and Champagne ("Valentino," "Oh Me Oh My Goodbye," and "Rock 'n Roll Star," the latter charting at #2 in the Netherlands and #83 in the United States). The 1980s saw his personal decline, starting with the slow death by cancer of his long-time partner Laurie Langenbach [she had a brief affair with Jimi Hendrix, when he was in Amsterdam in March 1967], who died in 1984—according to close friend Armand, he never recovered from her death and for the next twenty years lived surrounded by her personal belongings. Efforts to revive a music career appear hampered by personal problems caused by a heavy alcohol addiction and tax problems.
Tax died in 2005 in relative obscurity, bothered by financial and physical problems. He was buried in Amsterdam, after a gathering in Paradiso in his honor raised enough money for his funeral. A year later, a benefit concert was held in Paradiso to raise funds for a monument to be placed on his grave. The monument, two guitar necks crossing, continues to draw visitors.

Memorial services for iconic MOTÖRHEAD frontman Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister was held at the Rainbow Bar And Grill in West Hollywood, California 1-9-2016.
Lemmy, who celebrated his 70th birthday on Christmas Eve (December 24-2016), learned two days later, on December 26, that he was afflicted with an aggressive form of cancer. He died two days later, on December 28 at his home in Los Angeles.
MOTÖRHEADwas revered by both metal and punk fans, and Lemmy was considered an icon for his musical talent and his embodiment of the rock n’ roll lifestyle.
The Rainbow Bar And Grill on L.A.'s Sunset Strip was known as Lemmy's hangout, made it an obvious place for friends and family to say goodbye to the legend.

NoGoD has been active in the Japanese music scene (and the European/international as well) for nearly 10 years.
Formed by frontman Dancho in 2005, and have performed with the same members since 2006. They have been active internationally in Asia since 2010, and are now ready to conquer Europe in the same way: through their music.
Their core message that “if a person believes in one core element, said element can become their own personal God. The band is striving to become just that.” NoGoD wants to be your God (in the sense of a core element).
A few other things the band is famous for are guitarist Kyrie’s special 7 string guitar technique, something a lot of guitarists strive to aspire to themselves.
And vocalist Dancho’s comical interaction with the audience when on stage, adding to the fun of the performance as well as displaying their love for lives and music.
Theological and philosophical principles behind the band aside they are of course most famous for their shironuri make-up, visual kei, looks and of course their music itself!
Whilst the band is known for it’s heavy (metal) style sounds, that remain quite catchy to the listener’s ear.
To achieve their own particular style they weaved in influences from J-rock, J-pop and of course the genre they are best known for: metal.
What is certain is that this band offers musical attractions to fans of many different genres, not just the visual kei or metal ones. They’re a great band that genuinely wants to build a solid fan base on the European market with their music and excellent instrumental technique.
So if you are visiting Japan Expo on Saturday the 5th or Sunday the 6th of July, make sure to check out NoGoD on their stage!
The times are not out yet, but keep your eye on the program so you don’t miss them!
