A view from Oliver's Mount over the town and South Bay of Scarborough.

The prominent features of the town are all visible from this high vantage point including the Castle Headland and Keep. The harbour and lighthouse.The Grand Hotel and Valley Bridge.

On a day like this when the sun is shining, it is easy to see why the town is such a popular tourist destination.

This is the old ranch road that goes down to the beach & laguna at Arroyo de la Cruz. This view across the soft chaparral to the ridge across the highway (on the Hearst Ranch, private property) caught my eye on a visit on a cold, foggy morning. Boy, was I glad to get away from the freezing blasts at the blufftop trail into a bit of shelter from these scrubby Monterey pines! This is a reliably interesting walk -- but more pleasant on calm days. Non-existent in spring or early summer, in my experience,

Not far from the Binding Brewery in Frankfurt am Main stands a building that clearly stands out from the rest of the buildings in the Sachsenhausen district: the Sonnenring. It is one of the buildings designed by architect Günther Balser, was built between 1969 and 1975, and is considered to be an example of brutalist architecture.

Unweit des Standortes der Binding Brauerei in Frankfurt am Main steht ein Gebäude, das sich deutlich von der übrigen Bebauung im Stadtteil Sachsenhausens abhebt: Der Sonnenring. Er zählt zu den Bauten des Architekten Günther Balser, entstand in der Zeit von 1969 bis 1975 und wird dem Architekturstil Brutalismus zugerechnet.

SB DMVW Max Turn is departing Wilton, North Dakota, after doing some work. We fought wildfire smoke and clouds during this chase, but managed to get sun on a few shots.

The heritage attributes of this Neo-Classic Colonial architectural styled building include ashlar-cut pine siding, characteristic hip roof with plain eaves, side-lighted front door placed at the side of the three-bay front, six-over-six windows on the second story, and the original columned porch which wraps around the front and east sides, inset into the foundation of the building with the second story extending over the porch.

This important landmark dates from the time when the area was called Kettle Creek Village and helped define the historic character of the area.

Standing 403 miles from Louisville, KY by rail, the annual trek of the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway's power to Tate can be seen here at Cherry Log. This move is made every year in late January so the engines can have their annual inspections conducted at the GNRR maintenance shop in Tate before returning in time for the start of season in March.

While these moves are typically only done with just the engines, what makes the move south & the return trip north special is that they are only times of the year where the "Ellijay Block," the portion of the Hook & Eye between Blue Ridge & Whitestone, see any traffic. With the demise of the lumber business that traveled by rail that managed to survive into the 2000s, there were no freight customers north of Whitestone left, so the line got demoted to excepted-track, only to be used for power moves. That makes these moves highly sought after & I've been fortunate to now catch it 2 years in a row. 1-25-22

ET22-281 with set of tankers with heavy hydrocarbons from Gdańsk Refinery passes the short part of the line no. 226 before joins the mainline in Pruszcz Gdański. The vast majority of the trains used the track no. 1, opposite for the direction they were running, because the track no. 2 (on the left) was in such bad condition, the max speed allowed there was 10 kmph. It's not very difficult to come up with postcard images in Prague. The views are literally on every step. I took this one from the castle walls of Vysehrad, across the river, just as the dusk started to settle in over this beautiful city.

Panorama View from the east river to the Manhattan Skyline and Brooklin Bridge

I am going to start this new series today named "From Mars" because the source I used was originally half a face that DDG Text 2 Dream created with a crown of grape vines and leaves, so all of these pieces will have some kind of "unique" helmet... and alluding to "Women are from Venus...Men are from Mars".

Created in Wombo Dream from the DDG source and then mirrored.

Gulluk, is a small harbor town with own municipality within the district of Milas, situated north of Bodrum in Mugla Province of Turkey. It is a popular stopover for tourists sailing the Blue Cruise tour and also has an important port for freight ships. Gulluk is also an important center of construction for gulet boats, coming second only to Bodrum. The town also has a freight port and acts as outlet especially for exports of several raw materials from mined in Milas district's inner regions.

Nuremberg Castle (German: Nürnberger Burg) is a group of medieval fortified buildings on a sandstone ridge dominating the historical center of Nuremberg in Bavaria, Germany.

The castle, together with the city walls, is considered to be one of Europe's most formidable medieval fortifications. It represented the power and importance of the Holy Roman Empire and the outstanding role of the Imperial City of Nuremberg.

In the Middle Ages, German kings (respectively Holy Roman Emperors after their coronation by the Pope) did not have a capital, but voyaged from one of their castles (Kaiserpfalz or Imperial castle) to the next. Thus, the castle at Nürnberg became an important imperial castle, and in the following centuries, all German kings and emperors stayed at the castle, most of whom on several occasions.

Nuremberg Castle comprises three sections: the Imperial castle (Kaiserburg), the former Burgraves' castle (Burggrafenburg), and the buildings erected by the Imperial City at the eastern site (Reichsstädtische Bauten).

The first fortified buildings appear to have been erected around 1000. Thereafter, three major construction periods may be distinguished:

•the castle built under the Salian kings respectively Holy Roman Emperors (1027–1125);

•a new castle built under the Hohenstaufen emperors (1138–1254);

•re-construction of the Palas as well as various modifications and additions in the late medieval centuries.

The castle lost its importance after the Thirty Years' War (1618 to 1648). In the 19th century with its general interest in the medieval period, some modifications were added. During the Nazi period, in preparation of the Nuremberg party rally in 1936, it was "returned to its original state." A few years later, during World War II and its air raids in 1944/1945, a large part of the castle was laid in ruins. It took some thirty years to complete the rebuilding and restoration to its present state.

Ancient oak tree captured from below in a Paris park during winter. The soft late-afternoon light casts a gentle golden glow on the deeply textured, rugged bark, while bare branches reach into a twilight sky with subtle pink and blue clouds. HDR processing reveals every crack and detail in the massive trunk, creating a dramatic “looking up” perspective that emphasizes the tree’s grandeur and power against the dormant winter landscape.
