This is one of 12 art installations in Eastbourne as part of the Elmer's Art Parade.
Elmer the Patchwork Elephant has come to Eastbourne for a celebratory anniversary visit – and has brought 11 of his Elmer friends with him. 2024 marks the 35th anniversary of the publication of the classic children’s picture book Elmer the Patchwork Elephant.
The herd of Elmers, inspired by the town’s status as a centre of artistic excellence and home of this year’s Turner Prize, are in position from 10 February until 14 April.
Caroline Daly chose Frida Kahlo as the inspiration for this design to celebrate the way that Frida paved the way for future female artists.
By embracing her natural beauty and transcending society’s beauty standards, Frida Kahlo didn’t follow trends and remained true to herself, just like Elmer!
