I would prefer to be in my pond, but my owner has no model to shoot and she is using me. Here I am in a white salad bowl. Thank God, there is water in it...

The goldfish (Carassius auratus) is a freshwater fish in the family Cyprinidae of order Cypriniformes. It is one of the most commonly kept aquarium fish. A relatively small member of the carp family (which also includes the Prussian carp and the crucian carp), the goldfish is native to East Asia. It was first selectively bred in ancient China more than 1,000 years ago, and several distinct breeds have since been developed. Goldfish breeds vary greatly in size, body shape, fin configuration and coloration (various combinations of white, yellow, orange, red, brown, and black are known). Goldfish have strong associative learning abilities, as well as social learning skills. Goldfish are gregarious, displaying schooling behavior, as well as displaying the same types of feeding behaviors. 16818

For the Chinese, the dragon is a symbol of good luck and prosperity. In the eyes of the Chinese, the dragon fish has the appearance and majesty of the Chinese Dragon, especially the scales - it resembles the scales of a Dragon.
When a Chinese businessman purchased one of these fishes, then strike a big fortune, the rumor mills were working overtime that he attribute his good luck to owning one of these fish. Soon, demand for this fish rocketed as many others hope that keeping a dragon fish will bring them luck.
There are 3 types of Asian Arowana - the Red, Gold and Green. For the Chinese, Red is a lucky color, as evidenced by the large amount of red used during Chinese New Year. This makes the Red dragon fish in high demand, and prices for a good quality red can easily fetch around SG$8,888/=. Gold is also considered lucky. However, it is surprising that Green variety is not very popular and is consider unlucky, especially in Cantonese speaking countries like Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Guangzhou. The Cantonese who keep a green Arowana in their home and often gamble are said to "shee tou meen cheang cheang" (lost till their faces turn green).

I took about 100 pictures of this Anhinga's struggle with a type of catfish I'd never seen before. Internet research reveals that this is an example of "Armored Catfish" (Hoplosternum littorale), another escaped non-native fish that is proliferating in South Florida.
The Anhinga had three problems to overcome: rendering the fish immobile, getting the fish in the proper head-first orientation for swallowing; and, getting that thick, armored fish down his skinny neck,
Paul ( D200-Paul ) and I watched this struggle for 15-20 minutes, as the Anhinga would attempt to swallow it, cough it back up, throw it to the ground, throw it up in the air several times to maneuver it to his mouth, and repeat the process over and over again. Eventually it looked as if he would successfully swallow the fish, so Paul and I moved on. (Hope the Anhinga didn't choke himself ).
A vendor shows off his fresh fish for sale at the Ajijic weekly market, Mexico. I believe they are the large carp that can be caught in Lake Chapala.

The water was flowing fast on the spillway & I spotted a large catfish that had been swept over the top of the dam and was being carried down the spillway.

On a sunny summer day with no wind, you can see lots of sunfish nests. Each one has a male sunfish guarding his nest from other males and trying to entice a female to chose his nest to lay her eggs. Once she does lay eggs he chases the female away & guards the nest up to and a week after hatching until all the babies have dispersed. So the male is the nurturer and the female is just the egg machine.
