Relatively fresh NS 6901 sits tied down on an empty PPLX train at WING. Notable local railroad photographer and Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Kris Letang is on hand to document the occasion.

Nick-named because of their place of origin, these MACS were built south of the border due to EMD's backlog at their north of the border London Ontario Canada plant.

KC to Bensenville manifest train, #253, has two of the new to CPKC painted ET44AC's. Power 7431, CSX 7216 and 7433. This is along the Chicago sub for CPKC and is passing an old Milw Rd code line pole from years past. Maybe because it is fresh paint, but they do not look all that bad, this is my first CPKC painted unit I've seen in person.
I went back to Holbrook for the weekly Apache road train and saw that the "Apache Ry." lettering had been added to the long hood of the 800. This essentially completes the repainting of the unit into its as delivered paint scheme from September 1962. The old unit looks awesome, and I can't wait to see it being moved and placed on its display track at the courthouse!
Progress continues on the cosmetic restoration of the Apache Railway 800 back into its as delivered livery. To see some fresh red and silver paint on an engine in the vast sea of orange and black in this area sure makes us long for the better days of the past. One small and tasteful addition to the nose is the brand logo for the Aztec Land and Cattle Company. This is the company that rescued the Apache from extinction after the papermill shutdown and almost killed off the railroad for good.
I'm sure Mifflin Methodist Church has the reddest doors in the 'Burgh - so fresh that the painters were still working around the side. HWW!
Luck was on my side as I had only found out about #4 being about 3.5hrs late and with a fresh Phase 7 leader about 2.5hrs prior to this shot. With a quick run home after work to change and grab the camera, I was flying down the highway. I saw that he kept falling behind and I knew it was going to be close with minutes to spare. I arrived in time to hike up on the rocks and soon heard him whistling for the 2 crossings prior to that bright red nose coming into view by the buildings at the left edge of the frame. He shot through the curves at max speed and with a quick horn salute, he was gone into the Painted Desert and headed for Gallup.
Talking with an Engineer who works this train, it may just be lipstick on a pig, but it sure beats the Shamu paint.

Just a few steps down the tracks is a bridge I have also photographed quite a bit. In the past, I enjoyed its old rusty look but I have to admit this new black paint is not too shabby either ... #etbtsy
