In North America, if you say you've got fresh milk, it probably means you were recently at the store and maybe are just now opening the jug (or bag, if you're in Canada *sigh*). The expiry date is still a little ways away, but the time since the milk was in the cow was probably at least weeks (not that we'd really have any way of knowing).
At this milk "station" in Delhi, the milk is fresh every single day and people come to get their fill up. So if you've got kids, one of the chores for them would likely be to take 5 rupees and your milk container to the milk man and get your fill up. And the milk was most certainly from the same day.

While I was making lunch there was a knock on my door. One of my neighbors had visited a local nursery this morning and brought me flowers! How thoughtful of them!
