The cobblestone streets of Brussels hold the quiet charm of a city that breathes history. Every corner reveals a piece of the past, with buildings that have witnessed centuries of change but remain as pillars of tradition and culture. Walking through these streets is like stepping into a time where architecture speaks, and the ground tells stories of old markets, artists, and gatherings that shaped Belgian identity.
Brussels, known for its blend of French and Flemish influences, preserves this essence in its alleys and hidden squares. The glow of cobblestones after a rainy night or the soft sound of footsteps echoing at dusk creates a unique atmosphere – melancholic yet warm.
These streets are not just pathways; they are living memories intertwined with the present. In Brussels, even the smallest alleyway seems to whisper that the past is never as far away as it seems.

Old exquisite French architecture with quaint, rectangular windows and grey walls on the streets of Pondicherry.
This is a reprocessed photo of an image I posted last year in my photostream. I made some minor tweaks and gave it less of an HDRish look.

Dalat is nestled in the hills of the Central Highlands of Vietnam. It is a great place to unwind in the cool mountain air. Vietnam is a very intense country from the chaotic traffic, to the stifling heat to the endless bickering with the locals to avoid being ripped off.
Dalat is literally a breath of fresh air.
After three wonderful days at the beach in Mui Ne it was time to move on so I took a very crowded, bumpy and cramped bus (yes, your typical bus ride in Southeast Asia) to Dalat. Once we arrived into town I thought the bus driver took a wrong turn and ended up in my home state of California...Anaheim, California, in particular, the home of the “happiest place on earth,” Disneyland.
Dalat is not your average city in Vietnam. It has cooler temperatures, it is clean and the attractions are borderline kitschy.
Dalat became a popular hill town with the French who wanted to escape the heat and humidity of the city. You can still see that influence today with the city’s small Eiffel tower, villas modeled after regional French architecture, and a train station which looks like it could be from any French village.
I rented a motorbike for the day and found this viewpoint compliments of a gentlemen I met earlier in the day while having my morning espresso. He saw my large Canon DSLR on the table and immediately told me of a wonderful viewpoint that I could photograph from.
Knowledgable, friendly and courteous locals...this place must be Disneyland.
Check back for more of my adventures in Vietnam!
Happy Travels!

As seen on a building on Fort Street near downtown Detroit.
Frog legs were big business in Detroit, "back in the day".
From a 2014 article in HourDetroit magazine:
"In 1910 Detroit produced, shipped, and consumed 12 tons of frog legs, 6 million pairs of legs (called “saddles”). Detroit hotels served 800 dozen a day. In 1911 the New York Times wrote an assessment of the best food found in the United States, saying: “Detroit is famous for frog legs.”

Des Moines is home to dozens of bridges, some old and some new. One of my "bucket list" things to do was visit the Des Moines River downtown when it was at its lowest point - during the fall. There are a bunch of old sidewalks and many cool vantage points to the many bridges crossing the river downtown.
This is the Court Ave bridge facing north. You can see how low the water is by the dark lines on the walls under the bridge. In a few short months the spot that this photo was taken from will be at least 4 feet underwater.

A 1760s potpourri vase from the Chelsea Porcelain Manufactory reflects the strong influence that French sensibilities were exerting on British art at the time.
