In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

This magnificiant example of neo-gothic architecture remains the largest building in the United States devoted to Freemasonry, and the National Registry of Historic Places listed it starting in 1983. The main tower rises 212 feet and contains a 54-bell carillon.

The Cathedral Church of Saint John: The Great Divine in the City and (Episcopal) Diocese of New York
commonly known as: the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine, St. John the Unfinished
architects: Christopher Grant LaFarge (original design,1888) Ralph Adams Cram, William Halsey Wood
architectural styles: Gothic Revival ( 13th century N. French High Gothic), Romanesque Revival, Byzantine-Romanesque
construction started, cornerstone ceremony: December 27, 1892 (St. John's Day) Bishop Henry Potter
opened: November 30, 1941
In the March 1925 issue of "Masonic World", an article on the cathedral states:
“It is particularly fitting that the Masons, who were the principal builders of cathedrals and churches during the greatest cathedral-building period, should now have a prominent part in the movement to build America’s greatest cathedral (…) Little need be added to the story of Freemasonry during the cathedral-building period; its monuments are its best history, alike of its genius, its faith and its symbols.”

An aspect of Freemasonry that has always fascinated me is the belief of some that it is a "secret fraternity." Well, if you are aware of it, then it isn't secret, is it? It is, however, a fraternity with secrets.
This photograph, treated with a texture to give it the hint of age, is of a stairway located in the Colonial Room of the Salt Lake Masonic Temple in Utah. This room, as well as others, is open for public visitors at nearly anytime by simply making a phone call.
Most importantly, nearly everything you see within the photo is steeped in the symbolism of Freemasonry. As an adept in the Craft, I must take care that I don't disclose more than what might be considered courtesy explanations. For example, I titled the shot, "Stairway to ....." To where? I cannot say.
While one can find those explanations by searching the Internet, only by being a brother within the fraternity can you internalize that meaning into your life and use it for positive change.
And that is the Secret of Freemasonry.
Process:
Nikon Coolpix P4, flash, 7.5mm, 1/181sec, f/2.7, adjusted in Adobe Photoshop by adding texture, cropping out and obscuring the really secret stuff, and various and sundry other janitorial work. Or, in lay terms, I took a crappy old photo with bad lighting and buggered it up with a texture to make it look more valuable than it really is. Sort of like how they antique and distress new furniture so they can charge more for it.

Prince Hall Masons are a historically significant branch of Freemasonry founded by African Americans in the late 18th century. Beulah Lodge #37, Prince Hall Masons, and the Rose of Beulah Chapter #251, Order of the Eastern Star (O.E.S.) are longstanding institutions in Eastman, Georgia, serving as important social and cultural anchors for the local Black community, especially during eras of segregation and limited civil rights. Their buildings, often centrally located, symbolize resilience and collective achievement.
