Trailer for "Never Sorry," a film about Ai WeiWei:
"Thousands of anti-government protesters marched in Malaysia’s capital on Saturday demanding the resignation of the prime minister, Najib Razak, over his alleged involvement in a multibillion-dollar misappropriation scandal.
Clad in yellow shirts and unfazed by arrests of activists and opposition leaders just hours before the rally, protesters marched from various spots towards the heart of Kuala Lumpur amid tight security."

I was invited by the Toolkit Startup 2 to participate to their poster exhibition "ε/Design your Expression".
The concept of my poster is be Free BUT with Responsibility. As Chesterton once said, "To have a right opinion to do a thing is not the same as to be right in doing it".

I read about this controversy in the newspapers a couple of times but didn't know where the ter Horst house was actually located until I stumbled across it on one of my runs.
I don't remember what the problem was exactly, but man, he must have been pretty angry.
20 Moran Street. Beaconsfield, Western Australia.
*Fun Fact: The house (there is an antennae on top) is part of a survey of environmental radio frequency electromagnetic energy (RF EME) levels arising from mobile phone base station antennas.

CALL FOR RELEASE OF THOSE PROTESTING REMOVAL OF STATUTE OF JUSTICE AND ACTION AGAINST POLICE FOR ABUSE OF POWER
The Committee for the Protection of Fundamental Rights (MOSC) strongly condemns the action taken by the police to arrest four persons on charges among others, attempted murder, simply for exercising their right to freedom of association and peaceful protest.
In the early hours of Friday 26 May, news broke that the statue of justice was being removed from the Supreme Court premises, following repeated demands by a group of religious extremists, the Hefazot e Islami. A group of students and activists gathered to protest this decision but were blocked at the Doyel Chottor, a crossing outside the Supreme Court premises, by police barricades, and by water cannons. While explaining the reasons for their protests and that the removal of the statute was a capitulation to extremist demands, four persons – including Liton Nandi of the Chattro Union and Arifur of Udichi - were arrested by the police. They were taken to Shahbagh Police Station held there overnight and taken to the Magistrate’s Court on Saturday 27th but not produced before the Court.
The police have filed a case alleging among others, that the protestors were involved in obstruction of the police in discharge of their official duties, and attempted murder. The FIR reportedly alleges that four named persons along with 150 others are implicated in rioting, unlawful assembly, causing mischief, grievous hurt, obstruction of the police in carrying out their duties, and attempted murder of police officers ! MOSC notes the sinister implications this has for our democracy, constitution and identity.
We demand immediate action to release these four persons, to stop this absurd harassment of citizens for participating in peaceful protests, and an inquiry into the arbitrary and disproportionate police action and action against those responsible.

The last speaker had spoken and it was just Peter Risdon giving his epilogue. It was raining so I bolted to Pret for a coffee.
There are 27 umbrellas and 80 heads visible or partly visible in this photo (i.e. there are the backs of some protestors heads included in the count). There are also many disembodied placards and banners. I counted 18 police in this shot. I have not counted stewards or onlookers in any counts.
I have an SVG (XML) file giving the position of each head and umbrella.

I'm no stranger to political statements. Usually I make them out of anger or frustration with our system. This time out of sadness.
The NRA is a massive lobbying group and is has a tax-exempt nonprofit organization status. One step away from becoming a religious entity. So many people treat them as a religion already. And they have a death-grip on our nation's democratic system. The argument of "Only a good guy with a gun can fight a bad guy with a gun" sounds like someone is trying to sell two guns. Once again its not about freedoms. It's about $$$.
Remind me the last time "thoughts and prayers" stopped a bullet.

I find myself in an awkward position. I love using Flickr, but I may stop. I know this a photo exhibition site that people come to for pleasure. When I've posted potentially uncomfortable images from time to time I've felt like I'm upsetting the party somewhat. But as Yahoo are directly involved in this and I have that information, I feel obliged to use the means available to me to pass that information on. Do with it as you choose. Please copy the picture if you'd like to use it to promote the release of Shi Tao in some way.

Free Shi Tao
Chinese journalist, Shi Tao, is serving a 10 year prison sentence for sending an email from his Yahoo! account.
In 2004 Shi Tao sent details of an internal government directive instructing journalists how to handle media coverage of the anniversary of the Tiananmen Square crackdown to a US-based website.
He was charge with "illegally providing state secrets to foreign entities' and sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment. Disturbingly Yahoo! China provided account holder information to the Chinese Government which led to his unjust imprisonment.
Prior to his detention journalist Shi Tao had been working for the Changsha-based magazine Contemporary Trade News and had published numerous essays and political commentaries relating to social problems in China.
In April, 2004, Shi used his Yahoo! account to email a US-based website, sharing the details of an internal government directive instructing journalists how to handle media coverage of the anniversary of the Tiananmen Square crackdown.
Shi Tao was charged with "illegally providing state secrets to foreign entities" and sentenced to 10 years imprisonment. According to the court transcript, evidence that led to the sentencing of Mr. Shi included account-holder information provided by Yahoo! Disturbingly, it has recently come to light that Yahoo! may have also released data which could have contributed to the arrest of another dissident, Li Zhi.
Amnesty International considers Mr. Shi a prisoner of conscience, imprisoned for peacefully exercising his right to freedom of expression and for the legitimate exercise of his right to seek, receive and impart information, as guaranteed in international law and the Chinese Constitution.
Amnesty International believes Shi Tao to be one of several targets of a police crackdown in late 2004 and early 2005. During this period, several rights activists and dissidents were reportedly detained or placed under surveillance in their homes. The reasons for these detentions appeared to be to prevent them from engaging in public activities deemed politically sensitive by the authorities in preparation for the 15th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square crackdown.
