No sun and a lot of dust at this years episode of the Free Your Mind Festival. The first of a whole bunch of dance festivals, this summer.
With dj's like Kenny Larkin, Matthias Tanzmann and Len Faki the musical quality was high.
The 8th edition of dance festival Free Your Mind in Arnhem turned a bit into operation Desert Storm. It hadn't rained for weeks in Holland so the location between the two Rijnbridges turned into a dust bowl. It was fun though. Much fun. With artists like Black Rose, Mathew Jonson and Josh Wink the line up was damn strong too.

Bij het woord emotie denk je snel aan gezichtsuitdrukkingen, of in ieder geval aan mensen. Ik vond het daarom te voor de hand liggend om voor deze opdracht echt mensen en hun uitdrukkingen te fotograferen. Daarom heb ik ervoor gekozen om de emoties die mensen op straat achter laten in beeld te vangen. Ik dacht hierbij vooral aan graffiti: veel tags zijn een aanklacht tegen de wereld, of juist een blijk van liefde. Dit wilde ik graag vastleggen.
De foto’s voor deze serie zijn op verschillende plekken gemaakt: op en om de Wibautstraat en op het Waterlooplein. Ik ben eerst naar de Wibautstraat gegaan omdat ik deze buurt goed kende en wist dat ik hier bruikbaar materiaal zou vinden. Bij het lopen door de straten kwam ik inderdaad opvallend veel dingen tegen: van graffiti tot geschreven teksten en stickers waarop mensen zeggen wat ze denken of voelen. De emotionele uitingen waren erg verschillend, iets wat ik leuk vond en ook graag wilde laten zien. Op het Waterlooplein heb ik nog een paar foto’s gemaakt om mijn serie completer en vollediger te maken.
Ik ben erg blij met het resultaat. Op de foto’s zijn verschillende emoties te zien, achtergelaten op verschillende manier. De felle kleuren die op de foto’s te zien zijn versterken de boodschap vaak, vandaar dat ik ervoor heb gekozen de foto’s in kleur te maken.

This is one of the few persons that looks at me and sees me for who and what I really am and doesn't judge, hell, he doesn't even mind as long as he can talk to me when he needs or wants to!
My bro got bullied in school for the way he talks... I don't even notice that he has any problems with speech (He can't pronounce the letter "R" as harshly as Icelander are suppose to)! And when he got older and the girls started to notice him, he became one of the most popular kids in school ;)
This is one of the most beautiful persons I know. He's got a dashing smile and a great personality... I am so proud to be his big sister!
