Quel sabato del 12 maggio 2007 ,ore 22.10 l’architetta/scrittrice palestinese si traveste da uomo e compie un viaggio di diciotto ore alla volta di Israele:
«Per scrivere dei 150 mila lavoratori che ne sfamano un milione».
“Mi ci sono voluti due mesi per trovare il coraggio. Credo che quella esperienza mi abbia cambiato radicalmente la vita, non mi va giù che questi palestinesi siano considerati lavoratori illegali e clandestini nella loro stessa terra, vengono criminalizzati, gli sparano addosso, li mettono in prigione mentre cercano solo di dare da mangiare ai loro figli” ….

Nata a Damasco da genitori esuli dalla Palestina in seguito alla costituzione dello stato di Israele nel 1948, ha vissuto anche ad Amman, Beirut, Il Cairo; si laurea alla Michigan University e si specializza ad Edinburgo. Dal 1981 vive a Ramallah, in Palestina nella West Bank, dove insegna presso l'università Birzeit ed è direttore del Riwaq Centre for Architectural Conservation. Tra il 1991 ed il 1993 ha fatto parte delle delegazioni palestinesi per la pace in Medio Oriente negli incontri in USA. Ha all'attivo numerosi studi, pubblicazioni e cataloghi sull'architettura storica palestinese e si scopre scrittrice raccogliendo in un volume i diari che tiene durante l'assedio Israeliano al quartier generale di Arafat a Ramallah nel 2001 e 2002. Nota al pubblico internazionale con l'opera "Sharon e mia suocera" (2003), tradotto in 11 lingue e con la quale ha vinto il premio Viareggio nel 2004, ha pubblicato anche "Se questa è vita" (2005), "Niente sesso in città" (2007), "Murad Murad" (2009).

Cambiare sesso. Suad Amiry sa benissimo che è questo l'unico modo per raccontare la paradossale condizione dei lavoratori palestinesi costretti a superare il confine con Israele per trovare lavoro. E così fa. Suad si traveste da uomo e raggiunge nottetempo un villaggio vicino a Ramallah da dove comincia il suo viaggio, lungo le strade costeggiate di olivi che conducono in Israele, insieme al fido Mohammad, a Murad - sfrontato, grezzo, tamarro, un ragazzo come tanti - e ai loro amici. Ridono, scherzano, parlano del lavoro che, forse, li aspetta al di là del confine, ma la testa è sempre altrove: ai soldati israeliani che potrebbero arrestarli da un momento all'altro, alla diffida che riceverebbero se venissero presi e che sancirebbe una "carcerazione preventiva", alla pallottola sparata da qualche cecchino nascosto tra gli alberi. Quando, dopo una marcia sulle colline e una serie di traversie, riescono infine a superare il muro e a mettere piede in Israele, è tardi: il lavoro non c'è più. Si confondono con i civili israeliani e salgono su un autobus per cominciare il viaggio di ritorno verso casa. Davanti a loro un paesaggio non ignoto ma visto forse per la prima volta con occhi diversi: tutto quello che era stato "palestinese" non c'è più, non c'è più memoria dell'architettura, delle coltivazioni, della vita quotidiana di un popolo che lì è vissuto per secoli (webster.it)
Sharon e mia suocera
Riuscite a immaginare qualcosa di più feroce e devastante dell’occupazione militare del vostro paese e di un severo coprifuoco imposto per mesi alla vostra città? Sembrerebbe d’obbligo una risposta negativa e invece Suad Amiry, palestinese di Ramallah e architetta, grazie a una mossa letteraria totalmente fuori schema, riesce a spiazzarci con un esilarante diario pubblico-privato che registra le cose… dal basso e in interni. In un pugno di pagine scoppiettanti di humour e di vetriolica lucidità politica e sentimentale, i colpi bassi di Sharon e del suo governo finiscono così per fare tutt’uno con le idiosincrasie di una suocera petulante, con la quale l’autrice si trova a trascorrere in un involontario tête à tête il tempo dell’assedio. Sconveniente e sofisticata quanto basta per increspare le acque della correttezza politica e per evitare il tormentone retorico che vorrebbe vittime e oppressori sempre assegnati a campi rigorosamente separati, con Sharon e mia suocera Suad Amiry dà alla letteratura quello che il regista araboisraeliano Elia Suleiman ha dato al cinema con il recente Intervento divino: un quadro lieve, surreale e ad altissima definizione dei guasti di una vita offesa.

Yesterday was one of the happiest days in my SL life. A very emotional one, as it marked the opening of the Stand for Palestine event, where the SL community comes together to support Palestinian families and 100% of the proceeds of the event will be donated to UNRWA - the United Nations Relief and Works Agency which is mandated by the UN General Assembly to serve Palestine refugees.
To see so many there, attending the event, shopping, so many contributors to the event, creators, performers, artists, really warmed my heart.
This is a month-long fundraiser and includes live performances every Saturday at 2PM SLT. You can find vendors, auctions, and Community all in one powerful space.
In this shot, I am wearing the lovely UNA's Milena Palestine A dress (there is another gorgeous pattern for sale at the event) and also Eloise Baker's Palestinian Keffiyeh. The beautiful Art behind me is called "Silent Prayer" by [ HELLO MIKA] and is also available at the event, together with dozens of other beautiful creations by our SL Talents.

An interpretation and dedication to Banksy.
Today, a new mural by the street artist Banksy appeared on the side of the Royal Courts of Justice building in central London.
It depicted a judge in a traditional wig and black robe hitting a protester lying on the ground, with blood splattering their placard.
It appeared two days after almost 900 people were arrested at a mostly peaceful London protest against the ban on Palestine Action.
The pigs have arrested hundreds, now over a thousand, people who are protesting against the ban on Palestine Action. Many of these people were elderly and/or disabled, who put up no resistance as they held up their placards.
This just shows that the pigs are just legalised fascist bullboys who work for the government's private army. They protect the government from the people.
Banksy's graffiti art is often critical of government policy, war and capitalism.
We have learned nothing from history and have become 1930s Eastern Europe.
My great uncle Jimmy died fighting fascism; he didn't vote for them.

Orthodox Jews marching for Palestine. Regular Jews march for Palestine as well. Even some Holocaust survivors march for Palestine. The Jewish community is divided on Israel but more and more are denouncing Israel saying it does not represent Judaism.
Nota politica a margine, è evidente che il riconoscimento dello stato di Palestina sia ormai usato come un contentino verso l'opinione pubblica, è essenziale che sia applicato il principio "nessuna compravendita di armi con stati in guerra", "nessun rapporto commerciale con stati genocidari" haha, lo so che fa ridere.
Imho sono di una idea ancora più estrema, nessun intervento di alcun tipo sul piano geopolitico in nessun teatro, il che escluderebbe il 90% della politica estera alla occidentale.

Cmq in questa foto c'è tutto, la protesta dal basso, il capitale (grattasanpaolo) ed i medi che non sanno di chi aver paura.
Poi insomma ogni foto è una narrazione e non necessariamente rappresenta la realtà, la signora magari aveva fretta perché chessò, non vedeva l'amato compagno da mesi.
