Had another great day of shooting the swallows at the lake - due to heavy rain and wind. Got several passes of this tree swallow - or I _think_ it was the same one, based on the state of the feathers in the wings and tail. it definitely seemed undeterred by the damage!
En un viaje muy agradable los cientos de fotos que haces, algunas van saliendo del armario y nos traen recuerdo de un feliz día . Es una estancia del Alkazar convertido en un magnifico hotel con aires de Parador Nacional de Belmonte , municipio histórico, tomé esta foto, por excelencia por sus monumentos y sus personajes..
Cuna de Fray Luis de León , famoso por sus obras en las que ya se empezaba a escribir y usar el castellano mas moderno dejando atrás el castellano del cantar del Mio Cid, donde ya empieza a avistarse un idioma diferente. Este personaje debía de ser de armas tomar pues no se por que asunto , creo que alguna desobediencia a algunos de aquellos reyes que tantos eran , estuvo en la cárcel y lo detuvieron dando clase mientras explicaba un tema filosófico o teológico ( también lo podían hacer lo mismo con el personaje de la foto, amigo de teologías y filosofías que nos alegran la vida) . Paso algún tiempo y regresó a su cátedra y con los alumnos expectantes , esperaban una filipica hacia el rey, tosió un poquito y comenzó con la famosa frase " como decíamos ayer ..". El hecho da muestras del carácter del personaje..
No me resisto a insertar uno de sus poemas mas conocidos y que era obligatorio en la enseñanza rancia , que tan buenas cosa nos obligaron a memorizar:
¡Qué descansada vida
la del que huye del mundanal ruïdo,
y sigue la escondida
senda, por donde han ido
los pocos sabios que en el mundo han sido;
Que no le enturbia el pecho
de los soberbios grandes el estado,
ni del dorado techo
se admira, fabricado

No cura si la fama

Pero Belmonte no acaba ni en el poema de Fray Luis ni en mi foto. ¿ Alguien se acuerda del Infante don Manuel ? ..pues también estuvo por aquí y compuso el " El Conde Lucanor " un libro de cuentos ejemplarizantes y del que no dejare pasar el prologo...
En el nombre de Dios: amén. Entre las muchas cosas extrañas y maravillosas que hizo Dios Nuestro Señor, hay una que llama más la atención, como lo es el hecho de que, existiendo tantas personas en el mundo, ninguna sea idéntica a otra en los rasgos de la cara, a pesar de que todos tengamos en ella los mismo elementos. Si las caras, que son tan pequeñas, muestran tantísima variedad, no será extraño que haya grandes diferencias en las voluntades e inclinaciones de los hombres. Por eso veréis que ningún hombre se parece a otro ni en la voluntad ni en sus inclinaciones, y así quiero poneros algunos ejemplos para que lo podáis entender mejor.
Pero queda el Castillo de Belmonte pero no se asusten ustedes ..solo le diré que una joya y que no visitarlo es pecado , aunque algunos ..! eh..Ricardo ¡ todavía maldigan sus almenas interminables.
Solamente aconsejar esta visita por unas carreteras de primer orden que no es motivo de no ir...

Smile on Saturday - small tack sharp
This theme was a particularly tricky one to do with my cellphone. (I am in the 17th month of a 6 month self-challenge to do as much as I can with the iPhone's camera.) Sure do miss using my dear little canon870 which handles these admirably but really needs to go to its camera doctor.
With the iPhone camera, I probably took well over 50 shots of different small close-up things!! I could get a focus in the middle ground but I wanted more and better. Wanted to get foreground focus and background blur which on this one turned out to be, not surprisingly, the blue ribbon that the opaque gauzy one was paired with. I’ll post a couple of my “almost but not quite” possibilities soon. There are 9 other possibilities in my photostream, besides this one. .....Thank you to Renee who makes me think I can handle these challenges with a cellphone camera!!

these jeans are old, ragged, worn, frayed at the edges and even have some holes in the knees but I can't give them up... they're soft, comfy and an old favorite.

According to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, “Great Blue Herons have specialized feathers on their chest that continually grow and fray. The herons comb this “powder down” with a fringed claw on their middle toes, using the down like a washcloth to remove fish slime and other oils from their feathers as they preen. Applying the powder to their underparts protects their feathers against the slime and oils of swamps.” Great Blue Herons hunt from shallow water, moving slowly and searching the water under the surface. They will eat whatever they can catch including frogs, snakes, crayfish, fish, small mammals and even other birds. They will snag smaller prey with their strong mandibles or can use their sharp, dagger-like bills to impale larger creatures.

Depending on which shoes I wear, my old jeans can be a bit too long, and they are frayed on the bottoms of the legs in places where they drag on the floor or ground.
