Adrian Tierney-Jones is a beer, pubs, food and travel writer.

At the FourPure Brewery event those who had registered got to take part in the merging of a beer tasting session with beer history and punk rock. A lot of ground, and beer, was covered which now on another day is almost un-reiteratable. As Adrian said as we listened to the Dead Kennedys perform California Uber Alles "I was a punk rocker in 1977 and in 1978 I went new wave". We were all drinking FourPure IPA "not bubble gum - this is pungent and heroic, like Tony Curtis, its the guitar music, the risotto of beer , the burger of beer even".

As the Buzzcocks sang Boredom we opened our American Brown Ales - "in living memory Brown Ales were very big in Britain but big as in they were Andy Capp, flabby, they were sweet and even stank like brown paper" But as we were finishing drinking a US version from Bermondsey Anarchy in the UK struck up. "I read the NME and punk looked rough but I decided this is my new music - I was open minded, you want an IPA, you want a sour - there's been a real freedom in beer these last ten years, why didn't we brew this way before?" We opened our red rye Northern Latitude and began to drink and talk.

From the Fourpure Brewing Company in London. Decided the Social Distance Inn needed some new kids on the block so decided to buy some fruity tinnies from Tesco as my friends have been raving about some canned offerings. This 6% sour was delightful on a hot day in the garden.

Fourpure co-owner, Daniel Lowe - on the left side of the "bar", manning the tap room on the night of its public opening on November 30, 2013.

Founded as recently as March 2013, Fourpure has already brewed a series of excellent beers, much thanks to its seasoned Dutch brewmaster, Hidde John Driebergen, who has brewing experience from Brooklyn Brewery in New York and from Meantime in London.

Brewdog and Fourpure

The tap room at Fourpure Brewing in South Bermondsey, London, officially opened to the public on the day of my visit (November 30, 2013). The tap room and brewery will be open to visitors on Saturdays from 11 am to 5 pm.

Visitors can choose from five regular draught beers, but there are also two extra taps, for a seasonal and a "magical mystery brew", but they were not used on the opening day. These were the five beers offered:

- Session IPA hopped with Crystal and Cascade (4.2%)

- Pale Ale hopped with Cascade (5%)

- Amber Ale hopped with Palisade and Cascade (5,1%)

- Oatmeal Stout hopped with Goldings (5.1%)

- IPA hopped with Cascade, Centennial and Chinook (6.5%)

It was nice to see the old, now almost extinct, beer style of Amber ale brewed to such high quality, I really enjoyed the Fourpure Amber Ale. The Session IPA also impressed me with its surprisingly well balanced hop character, despite the low ABV, and high drinkability. This is a great start from Fourpure Brewing.

The blackboard listing some of the beers, a lot English, on tap during my late May 2015 visit to Euston Tap in London.

In the last few years the English beer scene has exploded, with great new breweries such as Siren, The Kernel, Buxton, Weird Beard and Fourpure, all on tap this night. When I attended the opening night of Euston Tap, on November 5 2010, the pub only offered a few English beers, most notably Thornbridge, so things had really changed in five years!

Matthew Curtis is London based, he likes beer and writes about it in media such as the Original Gravity magazine, the US Good Beer Hunting and his own beer blog called Total Ales.

At the FourPure Brewery event those who had registered got to jointly review two of their new beers (Southern Latitude and Northern Latitude). As the reviews grew amid talk of Moomins so they were written up on the web and projected onto a screen in the brewery.

The final review is at
