Fountains Abbey is one of the largest and best preserved ruined Cistercian monasteries in England. It is located approximately 3 miles (5 km) south-west of Ripon in North Yorkshire, near to the village of Aldfield. Founded in 1132, the abbey operated for 407 years, becoming one of the wealthiest monasteries in England until its dissolution, by order of Henry VIII, in 1539.

In 1983, Studley Royal Park including the ruins of Fountains Abbey was purchased by the National Trust. The abbey is maintained by English Heritage.

This particular one is found on the Country Club Plaza District. It is the JC Nichols Fountain.

This fountain is the best-known and most-photographed of all of the city's fountains. It is located at the east entrance to the popular Country Club Plaza district. The figures were sculpted by Henri Greber in 1910 and adorned the mansion of Clarence Mackay in Long Island, NY. Over the years the fountain was vandalized and eleven parts were missing. The Nichols family initiated the purchase and installation which was funded by the family, the city and private contributions including a collection by school children in the Kansas City area. It was brought to Kansas City in 1951and refurbished by Herman Frederick Simon and dedicated in 1960. The J. C. Nichols Memorial Fountain has four heroic horsemen which are said to represent the four rivers of the world: the Mississippi River (the Indian riding the horse and beating off an alligator), the Volga River (with the bear), the Seine and the Rhine.

The water's back on at the fountain in Veteran's Memorial Park, though unlike some previous years the water pressure isn't enough to give a decent height.

Crown Fountain is an interactive work of public art and video sculpture featured in Chicago's Millennium Park, which is located in the Loop community area. Designed by Spanish artist Jaume Plensa and executed by Krueck and Sexton Architects, it opened in July 2004. The fountain is composed of a black granite reflecting pool placed between a pair of glass brick towers. The towers are 50 feet (15.2 m) tall, and they use light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to display digital videos on their inward faces. Construction and design of the Crown Fountain cost $17 million. The water operates from May to October, intermittently cascading down the two towers and spouting through a nozzle on each tower's front face.

The fountain was built to celebrate the twinning of Timisoara (considered the most multicultural city in Romania) and Karlsruhe.

It's a cube with 4 faces covered with first names. You will notice there not only romanian names, but also german, serbian and hungarian names. On each of these faces there is water streaming representing life.

Timisoara was designated to be one of the European Capital of Culture in 2021.

While wandering around looking for the "magical fountain" in Barcelona we stumbled upon this one at the intersection of Passeig de Gràcia and GranVia de les Corts Catalances. Too many people at and around the magical fountain to get a good capture so we settled for this one.

I tried to freeze the amount of water gushing out of this fountain just to see if I could, then liked the effect even if it was only partly frozen.

The Fountain Overflows by Rebecca West. Published in 1957 and based on her own childhood this is a wonderfully evocative book which I remember loving when I read it many years ago - I just searched for it on my bookshelves and am going to reread it. For the Smile on Saturday challenge to illustrate a book title. The fountain is at Borde Hill Gardens in Sussex
